Nice British themed hotel.

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: The Ambience and the old style British Look. I miss the old double decker bus!!!
Location: St. Louis Cards, The Zoo, The Shelton
I have been staying at the Cheshire at various times over 30+ years. I experienced the decline and the surly staff to the current friendly staff and beautiful re-modeled rooms. Was disappointed because they were working on the guest lobby area and one of the elevators was shut down. Had to wait extra for the 1 operating elevator. Hopefully by June when I come back both will be working! My wife needs the walk in shower and I indicated it on my reservation but when I checked in they didn't have me in that type of room. The nice lady changed my room to the originally requested type!!! No problem. The previous owner's staff wouldn't have done it!

Good but still needs some work

Posted Mar 1, 2015
Pros: Location, bed, pub, fireplace, staff
Cons: Cleanliness, road noise, heating/cooling noise, water pressure in bathroom
Location: There's a movie theater but not a lot within walking distance. By car- Forest Park and Washington University. Well-reviewed restaurants are on site.
The Cheshire Hotel (used to be Cheshire Inn) is a mixed bag. I chose it partly because it's located close to Forest Park and to the Missouri History Library where I planned to spend part of my time in St. Louis. The location is a good, central one, though there is not much within in walking distance. I have stayed at the hotel when it was the Cheshire Inn and it has changed a lot since those days. Good things: the bed was very comfortable and the room, though not huge, was a good enough size. The pub in the hotel served a tasty, limited menu in a cozy atmosphere. The continental breakfast had a reasonably nice selection of food and drink. Staff were pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. The old English decor is fun. The fireplace in the lounge had a roaring fire that we enjoyed since it was unusually cold during our stay. The not-so-good: the room has a heat and cooling unit that goes on and off and makes quite a lot of noise when it's on. Our room faced Clayton Rd. and had a fair amount of traffic noise (there's a hospital down the street and we heard a few ambulances, though the noise level dropped around 11 pm). The bathroom was small and cramped, with low-flow shower and sink that yielded an annoying trickle of water. The maid service could have done a better job of cleaning-we kept finding hair that was not ours. We did not expect to have to pay for parking, but the price was reasonable. The windows in our room looked lovely but let in a lot of cold air.

Cleanliness is essential.

Cleanliness is a priority and I didn't see that in our room.

unique and exceptional

Pros: everything
This is the 4th time I've stayed at The Cheshire hotel. I absolutely love everything about it. It truly is a unique experience. It feels like an English luxury lodge with large fireplaces, beautiful antiques and even has a large stuffed bear in the lobby. You won't be disappointed.

Great location, quick & personable check in, clean rooms, nice toiletries, loved the bed; room service menu & breakfast left a little to be desired, but decent. Great atmosphere!

Cheshire Inn St. Louis

Pros: Unique atmosphere. Very friendly and cozy. Parking is covered and convenient Plus, I got a very good price through Expedia.
Cons: The heating system was a bit noisy, but not enough to spoil the experience.
Wonderful atmosphere, one-of-a-kind experience. Not at all like staying in a chain hotel that is the same everywhere you go. Friendly staff, good amenities. I will recommend it to others.

Location central to Wash U and museums.

Cons: Lobby was under construction for renovation. A little tricky getting around but staff was accommodating.
Hotel had Olde English charm. Staff was friendly and helpful. Quaint pub. Adjoining restaurants were fantastic; especially Basso. Lovely Starbucks complete with wood burning fireplace was a plus.

A magical place

The hotel is incredible. The staff is amazing. The beds are truly comfy. I really did not want to leave. Next time I'm in St. Louis this will be the only hotel I will consider!
