“Tired Staff, tired hotel”
I would not recommend this hotel for a woman travelling alone. Rooms are annexed and accessed via breezeways and empty elevator floors. Keys are required to get into the hotel, good but not great if you're in a hurry or someone is following you. The hotel is not situated in the best part of town, and I was constantly looking over my shoulder when trying to get to my room. The room itself was clean and comfortable enough. The staff seemed overworked and under-trained. I felt as though they were trying to do their best under very bad circumstances. The front desk was mostly unhelpful. They could not give me directions and, since a marathon was being run, were unable to tell me how to negotiate the roads. For one of my nights staying in this hotel, there was a bachelor party going on about 2 doors down. I did not complain to the front desk because, quite frankly, I didn't know what they could have done about it. The noise wasn't so that I couldn't sleep, more that I was woken up when things got a little out of hand. I feel that the management of the hotel needs to be improved and proper training given to the employees.
“No wonder they still have vancacy”
I stayed her for the Richmond marathon. It would take so little for this hotel to do to make this place fabulous for this event because of their location, but they just don't care. I had called the front desk and asked if they would have a shuttle to the marathon a few weeks before, but the desk clerk during the day could not speak English, and after a pause said "no." Well, happily when I arrived I found that they did although it was 20 minutes late, and we had to have everyone sit on laps an stand in aisles as they did not care about their list which showed it was too full. The smell in the hotel is like cat pee although others think that it was some industrial product. The two front desk people can't manage the job wih only one speaking English, the keys don't work as we tried 4 sets leading someone to just prop the back doors open, wake up call didn't happen, many people had no heat or hot water, and if you were lucky enough to have coffee makers in the room, they did not have coffee. I got only condiments and when I asked they only had decaffeinated. I can't believe tha thisis a Clarion! Try if you can to get somewhere else.
“Excellent value!”
The Clarion was a delightful surprise. Although located right off 95, it just didn't feel like a typical interstate chain hotel. The room was immaculate and comfortable with a nice balcony overlooking the courtyard pool. We had a reservation for the next night at a fancy place in downtown Richmond and honestly if the second hotel hadn't been pre-paid, we would have stayed at the Clarion another night and saved some money.
“Thank God it was only for 1 night....”
Well...we wanted a place to "crash" as we drove down to South Carolina, thank God it was only for 1 night. The floor of our room was WET (we think it was from the air conditioner, since it was around that) and the bathroom had ants. The beds were comfortable and the location and price were good....but, that was it. Definitely would NOT recommend it. Interestingly, though, a large group of Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Agency workers were staying there the same night as well (there were like 10 of their vehicles there) which made us think that if it was good enough for them, it was good enough for us, but maybe their rooms weren't as gross!
“Serves it's purpose”
Right off the highway, Very convenient with a short drive to fan area and VCU. Easy to come and go with plenty of free parking unlike many of the more expensive hotels downtown that have parking and valet fees. Parts of hotel are a bit warn and dated, but our room was very clean and spotless when we came back each evening.
“I would stay there again, very clean and quiet”
This was a very clean hotel, the room was always kept clean by the staff. They made sure I always had my coffee refills. I would stay there again if I venture back to Richmond.
“Richmond VA”
Not impressed, food not good, cannot recommend this hotel to anyone
“Not a 3 star hotel”
The hotel was old and run down. The elevators and hallways smelled like mold. Hotel staff wasn't very friendly. The bed made me and my fiance itch everytime we layed down. The hotel in my opinion was more like a 1 1/2 or 2 or star hotel. I was very disappointed for what I payed. I would keep looking at other hotels and not book this one.
“Not so Central but still OK”
I stayed at the Richmond Central Inn in mid March 2011 and was very satisfied with my time there. The facilities and amenities are what you'd expect in a place like this (i.e mid-range comfort etc) and there is a good restaurant on site for breakfast and dinner (although it's a pity they couldn't have thrown a complimentary breakfast in for the price). The only significant drawback for me was the location; those with a car won't have an issue getting to downtown Richmond from here of course (maybe a 10-15 minute drive?) but anybody else will need to rely on some sketchy public transport. There is a bus stop outside but the service is infrequent (i.e 60-90 mins between buses) and the buses back from downtown cease service fairly early in the evening (something like 9.30 from memory). From the heart of downtown I'm guessing it would be about an hour's walk back to this hotel. One other thing - if you're coming from the airport by cab, don't confuse the driver by calling it the "Central Inn" - most cabbies there still know it as the Holiday Inn and won't know what you're talking about if you insist on referring to it as the Central Inn.
“Richmond's Best Kept Secret”
I was not expecting the comfortable bed, in door restaurant or balcony that I had at this hotel. I loved it and will be staying there whenever I visit that part of Richmond in the future.
