Great location, but old hotel. Renovated bathrooms helped, but other aspects of the room were plain. Great service in dining room, but front desk personnel were not very friendly.

Commonwealth Suites

Posted Jan 30, 2015
Pros: Location that is convenient to the court and to restaurants.
Cons: Hotel had problem with hot water. Hotel refunded my room charge without being asked. They explained they were working to fix the problem with upgrade.
Location: State capitol, federal courts, restaurants
I have stayed here before because of its proximity to the 4th Circuit and it is comfortable with large rooms..

Large rooms but very dated

Posted Jan 21, 2015
Shower was awful hot water was intermittent. We had a room with a view of a brick wall so it was dark in the room even in the morning. It was also right next to elevator so it was pretty loud.

Overall fine experience

Posted Jan 6, 2015
Pros: Good service, great location, and pet friendly.
Cons: Parking options and communication
Location: Everything downtown is within walking distance
Parking was a pain in the butt and the room was rather small. Otherwise my experience there was fine. Good service, great location, and pet friendly.

Boutique Hotel, Lovely City

Posted Nov 14, 2014
Pros: Location, historical charm, pleasant staff.
Cons: *Elevators are *tiny*- not for the claustrophobic.
Location: Across from Commonwealth Park/ Capitol, short walk to Shockoe bottom. Short drive to Carytown, Holly Wood cemetery, and Proper Pies (don't miss it!)
Right on the park, beautiful old hotel, well kept. Gracious staff, nice accommodations- recommend the full suites, as hear they are large, airy, spacious- more like apartments. We had a smaller 'regular' room that was very comfortable for a couple. Valet parking is a must during the week, on weekends you can park on the street if you find a spot. Room includes micro/fridge, wifi and has a bidet~ a rarity in American hotels. Staff is professional, reserved. Restaurant is on premises (we did not eat there). Lots of nearby choices during the day, evening dining is limited to the upscale restaurants in Shockoe bottom. Convenient drive to many other selections.

Great hotel in the city

Posted Oct 22, 2014
Pros: The suite was amazing.
Cons: I wish they had their own free parking deck. The bathtub needs to be really deep cleaned or updated with new caulk because there was mold around it.
This is definitely not chain hotel experience but rather a personal one. Staff was very friendly. The hotel was within walking distance to the venue I was attending. The pictures of the hotel are a bit outdated because I definitely stepped into a room that was updated. VERY roomy. I didn't like the fact that they only had Valet parking for $15/night.

Pleasant surprise

The service at this hotel was great! From the front desk staff to the valet to those working in the restaurant, everyone was very pleasant. The rooms were also very comfortable and spacious with the pictures from the website are an accurate representation. I would definitely stay there again if in the area.

Lots of windows; helpful staff

Posted Oct 20, 2014 on Hotels.com
My room was very large, with plenty of windows. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful during our stay, especially in the café and at the front desk.
