This Hojo Inn was a hit for us!

Pros: Quiet, in spite of its close proximity to I-95 and a nearby truck stop. Excellent access, somewhat off the beaten path, away from the I-95 exit area.
Cons: Loud in-room HVAC noise, but we were exhausted, so it was no big deal.
Location: Very good, with excellent access and return to I-95 less that an a quarter-mile away.
This Howard Johnson property was a very pleasant surprise! It was apparently very well managed. We found it to be well maintained and very clean during our one-nite stay. We rented two rooms on the first floor and both were very quiet and comfortable. My initial concerns were for potentially high noise levels, due to the very close proximity to I-95 and a nearby truck stop, but those worries proved to be unfounded. The large rooms each had a small refrigerator, plenty of drawer and closet space, as well as a small in-room safe for valuables. The restroom facilities were fine and the plumbing was in very good order. This location is perfect for lodging during a visit to Kings Dominion theme park (our reason for choosing it), which is only an exit away (5 miles). The small town of Ashland, Virginia was very quaint and peaceful, and both of our choices of local (non-chain) restaurants was a hit. Although a continental breakfast was available just off the main lobby, we did not use it, other than for morning coffee, which was excellent. All in all, given the very competitive Expedia nightly rate and clean, quiet accommodations, it would have been very hard to beat elsewhere. We would definitely stay in this property again.

Budget pricing, acceptable accomodations

Pros: Waffles at breakfast and friendly staff
Cons: Beds and no protein source with breakfast options
Location: Great - right off the interstate and less than 10 minutes to Kings Dominion. Several good restaurants, gas stations, ect within 2 mile radius.
The hotel met our expectation. We have two children, two and three, who were traveling with us. The hotel staff was friendly with them and accepting of their loud escapades. Our room (210) had two queen beds and one was moderately comfortable and the other was uncomfortable. The room did have a refridgerator which was convenient for our purposes. The fresh waffles at the continental breakfast were delicious, but I would STRONGLY reccomend to management adding a protien source (bacon, sausage, or eggs).

Clean It

Found the room to be in need of cleaning and some minor repairs. Walls needed cleaned where stuff had been spilled. The faucet in the bathroom was loose and moved every time it was used. The container for ice was filthy.

Pros: Clean and bright
Cons: Hard to find - No visible sign from the main road
Location: Very hard to find. Behind another hotel with no clearly visible signage.
Much better than I expected, given the price. Nice reception and decent clean room.

The staff was so friendly and the hotel so clean. I am always a little scared when I stay at a lower end hotel but this was great for the price.

Pros: Quiet, clean, well looked after
Cons: The breakfast offering was a bit sparse. Only one coffee container in the room is a bit skimpy.
Location: Located within 5 minutes of lots of restaurants.
Hotel HVAC system hard to control for an even room temperature. Front counter very friendly. Hard to - watch very carefully for the signage and go slowly. You can see it in the distance but there are lots of twists and turns to get to it.
