Good value for moneyPosted Jul 14, 2013
Pros: The hotel is quiet and comfortable, with pleasant staff and a great breakfast.
Location: It's a 20min walk from Old Town Riga, in a quiet part of town.
I found the hotel on Expedia and was pleased with the guest reviews. I have never been to Riga before and wanted to stay away from Old Town hotels/ hostels which can get rowdy with stag parties. The Welton was a 15-20 minute walk from the Old Town and is in a commercial /residential part of Riga, although there is a night club which itself is no problem but some of those attending made lots of noise when they came out at 3am on weekend nights - I was woken up. My single room was adequate, if rather small, but the en-suite bathroom was excellent. The reception staff were friendly and helpful when asked for advice. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a good selection of hot and cold food and drinks - again the staff were nice. The nearby Lido Cafe is excellent value for money - the hotel doesn't do lunch or dinner. I would offer 2 points to the hotel management: a) be proactive in offering advice to tourists, don't wait to be asked for city maps, tours and transportation - engage with the tourist and provide info accordingly; b) don't be so greedy when charging for such items as drinking water and laundry.

Unfortunately the airconditioning did not work, so it was very hot in the room.

Comfortable charmPosted May 12, 2012
Pros: Large, comfortable rooms, charming building.
Location: Not great, but not too bad either.
The street isn't pretty but the building itself is charming, with large rooms, comfortable beds, good breakfast (not extensive but well presented). A fair walk from transport and even further from the old town, but reasonable for someone who is fit. Friendly staff with enough English to get by.

Great valuePosted Feb 9, 2011
The price was very reasonable considering the beauty and comfort of the hotel and my room. It was quiet and very clean. The breakfast was fantastic - ranging from typical Western food to local touches in cuisine. The staff were very helpful. Everything was tastefully decorated and I was impressed with how this older building had been completed renovated.
