“great hotel”
Pleasant hotel. Excellent value. Reception helped us with referrals for restaurants and found us a new guide when our on-line guide cancelled. We would stay here again, although you need a car because the tourist area is far away. This area is better than Copacana.
“Bourbon Residence, Barra - a well managed hotel.”
The staff in general were very helpful. I moved room once because of a late night party happening over the road and they were very accommodating in helping me find a more suitable room. The restaurant staff were also very helpful and friendly. A very minor criticism would be that they generally only spoke Portuguese or understood a little Spanish, so sometimes it was difficult to communicate. The first room i had was clean and tidy and well equipped, although the several of the lights did not work. All the services were very good, for example a fast, efficient laundry service, good breakfast with a good range of foods, and a nice restaurant menu. The gym and pool over the road that the hotel gives you complimentary access to were also very good, although the weekend opening hours were limited so it's wise to check before use.
“Far from the touristic spots”
The hotel is very far from the touristic attractions (30 min by taxi). Taxis do not know how to get there. It will cost you around 60 reais from copacabana to the hotel without getting lost. Not all taxis have GPS so they may get lost and it will take you longer and cost you more to get to the hotel. This hotel is far from the beach. You have to take a little golf cart to a river and then take a small boat to the beach. You cannot walk to the beach. We did not drive so I don't know how bad it would be to get to the beach by car.
“Not worth it”
Their customer service is the worse for this type of hotel. First there front desk didn't explain about all the service the hotels offers like breakfast hrs, about the pool and gym service. they are slow on the check in process with 3 persons on duty for 2 customer waiting in line. I have to came back to the front desk for info about breakfast and pool location, the front desk fail to let us know about where we can get towel. We was surprise their pool and gym is on different location, it is the club of the residence, and they do not offer towel!!. Also when I request information about restaurant, shopping center around the area Barra Da Tijuca, the front desk gave me a map from IPANEMA beach!.. definitely help tourist, provide information or basic customer service is not their strength. I can spend all day giving details of the bad service this hotel provides, for the fee charged is a real shame.
