I stayed for 4 nights to attend a conference. Located in the south end of Capacabana, which was not as nice as I expected. Many closed shops within a few blocks from a hotel, and the number of good places to eat is very limited. While I decided to stay to save $30-40 a night, I would choose to stay in Ipanema just because of the neighborhood. I was also VERY DISSATISFIED W/ THE ROOM I was given. Room 202 is the lowest floor, facing Av. Ns. de Copacabana, where buses and other vehicles make noise throughout the night. And the large windows did not close completely. As a result, I could not sleep for the first two nights. Receptionists didn’t respond to my request after the 1t night--either fix the windows or change the room. Saying "rooms on the other side are not nice because you don't have a view", they kept discouraging me to change the room. Only after 2nd night and repeated requests, they switched my room--more quite and better-maintained. I felt that they gave me the worst room. Because of this reason, I would never go back to this hotel. Either room has a A/C which makes a large sound. The breakfast is fine, and is available from 6am, which is convenient. The internet is not available in a guest room; the internet available in the lobby is VERY SLOW, and the computers for the guest use are also SLOW with blocks for many non-Portuguese sites, and useful for international travelers. Cleanliness of a hotel was decent, but was just OK for my room.

The hotel is in a great location, close walk to the beach, shops, restaurants, metro station etc. The room was clean and comfortable, but very outdated (along with the rest of the hotel) and was pretty expensive for the quality of the hotel, but this was one of the cheaper options during the middle of Carnival. Breakfast was great with plenty of options including cooked breakfast, fresh fruit, juices etc. The rooftop pool was great to cool off and enjoy a beer at the end of the day with some amazing views of Copacabana! The staff were also very friendly and helpful and spoke good English.
