Basic but Clean & Really FriendlyPosted Dec 2, 2013
Pros: It's in a great location, safe & friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful.
Cons: a kettle in the room would have been nice.
Location: Ipanema Beach is a 5min walk - and there's loads of shopping, restaurants & fab gelato place right next door (try the lemon & lavender sorbet!)
A friend of a friend recommended this hotel - I don't usually stay in hotels, but treated myself to a room for the last three nights of an 11 week trip - REALLY glad I did. They warn you that works are going on at the moment - I wouldn't let that put you off, in the room I was in (207) I heard a little tiny bit of building type noise from about 10am but it was nothing that would have disturbed me. I can't compare the price to other hotels - it's more than I usually pay for any accommodation, but the room was spacious & clean, the breakfast varied, vast & until 11am which is eminently sensible when people want to lie-in on holiday!

Glad I chose this despite uncertain commentsPosted Oct 13, 2013
Pros: Great food options around the area, simple room but clean, friendly staff
Cons: Obviously, updating the place would bring more traffic. This means maybe brighter bathroom fixtures, a new coat of paint, more lighting in the rooms.
Location: 2 blocks from Ipanema Beach - which is BEAUTIFUL - a dozen great restaurants with local choices, lots of drug stores and grocery stores too,
I recently stayed at Hotel Vermont during a couple of days of vacation in Rio. I live in Manhattan, and I was travelling alone (female) so I wanted to make sure to stay in a safe part of town that wasn't going to break the bank. I originally had two bookings, at this hotel and another, and was trying to figure out which one I wanted after seeing so-so ratings and wondering if I would be miserable. I got a good rate off Expedia, and while the hotel wasn't the cheapest - rather comparable to parts of Midtown in New York - I decided to choose this one since I wasn't looking for much at the hotel and rather the amenities around it. The hotel was way better than I imagined. It's in a GREAT part of town and the street is rather busy even at night. It's 2 blocks from the beach, and very easy to access. There are some fantastic restaurants around the area. The hotel staff was lovely - and they did their best to be accommodating, asking me about my days and giving me good suggestions. They checked my luggage free of charge when my flight was going to leave late, and, the breakfast was great (lots of fruit). The room itself isn't anything special - a bed, a long desk, a simple bathroom. It was clean, and actually what I was looking for - a place I was going to rest, do a little bit of work, could have some down time, but I wasn't planning on staying at a Hyatt. For what it's worth, I would highly recommend this hotel. I felt perfectly safe!

Below Average Hotel with High PricesPosted Oct 2, 2013
Pros: Location. Also, a nice breakfast breakfast with hard working and attentive dining room staff. That's all there is to like.
Cons: Fire the front desk staff and put the waiters in charge. Somehow they know why they are there: to promote good customer relations and be welcoming.
Location: Ipanema shops and restaurants. Also three blocks from Posto 9 on the beach.
The Vermont has been touted as an economic choice. But given how paltry the small, plain rooms are and the poor value, I would keep looking. The front desk staff, including the managers, somehow believe it is elegant to simply not acknowledge their guests. Never a "bom dia" nor "boa noite" from this huddled bunch. They act as though the guests have lowered the heretofore high status of their establishment just by being present. The kiss of death, even for a well located business.

A Surprise Find in IpanemaPosted Sep 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
When I booked at the Hotel Vermont, I was expecting a hotel in a great location, but also a hotel in poor condition. I could not have been more wrong about the quality of my hotel room for the price paid, nor more pleasantly surprised. Of course, when I arrived, the location three blocks away from the "it" spot by Station 9 on Ipanema Beach did not disappoint. But the room I was given was also larger than expected, and the bathroom was not cramped. Included breakfast with hot and cold dishes was also a great added value, as was complimentary wi-fi (though the wi-fi signal was slow at times, and had weak signal in my third floor room). I would absolutely stay here again for a short one- or two-night stay.

2 Blocks from Posto 9 on Ipanema BeachPosted Sep 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
Hotel was very close to the beach. It was clean, the front desk was helpful and spoke English, breakfast spread was good for the price. Rooms have TV with cable. There are grocery stores nearby to buy water, as well as international banks for ATM access. It's a functional hotel...not a luxury hotel, but it serves its purpose well.

Very good location, but rooms are not comfortablePosted Aug 6, 2013
Pros: Service and location
Cons: Facility, rooms, matresses, add air-dryer
Location: Very good location.
The area is great, close to the beach and a lot of restaurants and markets close to the hotel; good service from employees; rooms are not well equipped and are not comfortable.

Nice location very close to beachPosted Jun 29, 2013
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: Breakfast with omelettes and room renovations
Location: Beach is close , several restaurants, Starbucks is on same block, shopping all around including Nike store, Louis Vuitton , and Rolex are nearby
Hotel itself could use some updating but the staff was very nice and it is in a good area for restaurants, shopping, and the beach. Breakfast is simple , fruits and pastry were good. Eggs and meat need improvement . Price is good for location , if want fancy than go pay 2-3 times more , if want a decent place at reasonable rates than stay here.

Suitable hotel for a short stay. Great location.Posted Jun 29, 2013
Pros: The lobby is decieving and can make you think the hotel is updated. If you can get past your room's 80's decor, you'll be fine.
Cons: The decor could use some updating. The eggs at breakfast were less than favorable.
Location: Try the Tex-Mex restaurant about a block away; we went twice. The brownie dessert was divine.
The best parts about this hotel: --Location: 2 blocks from Ipanema Beach and in the middle of many restaurants (stores, banks and pharmacies, too) --Hotel staff: The front desk seemed to always have someone who spoke English; cleaning staff and breakfast staff were very friendly. --Bathroom showers: Heavy and hot, but be careful not to burn yourself. The water gets EXTREMELY hot.
