Downtown conference hotelPosted Oct 27, 2013
Pros: The location downtown was very convenient. It was right near the big church which made it easy to find when taking the bus around town.
Cons: The standard room was small and somewhat dark. But it was clean and well kept. The elevators were very slow.
I stayed at this hotel for a conference. It was fine. The staff was friendly and helpful, although they didn't always speak much English. When many of us all needed taxis to get to the conference dinner, the staff took us around the corner and stood in the street to wave down taxis. The rooms were functional and fine. For a conference, it was not a great space, since there was no room for people to talk outside of the conference meeting room. We had to go out of the hotel to have side meetings. I felt very safe walking around this area by myself -- I was cautious, much like in any other big city.

Good but could do a bit better ...Posted Jun 11, 2013
Pros: Location - great for metro and buses and breakfast buffett was excellent
Cons: Lack of staff speaking English
Location: Excellent - central location, good for metro and buses, but a bit seedy at night
I enjoyed my stay, but as a non-Portuguese speaker I did find it difficult to communicate with the reception staff. The location for me was great as the bus driver from the airport dropped me right outside the hotel, which was excellent because at night the area is a bit seedy, it is also near a metro stop and this allows you to access the beaches easily. They do a great buffet breakfast.

close to area we were visitingPosted Mar 19, 2013 on Hotels.com
would not recommend the hotel. No one at the front desk spoke English, internet was very weak and wallpaper was coming off the wall. Beds are of very low quality, rooms smell musty, carpets very dirty with stains and tv was very old and outdated. Pool and bathrooms were nice.

Room for improvementPosted Mar 2, 2013
Pros: The cleanliness and comfort of the room were both fantastic, and the breakfast was very good!!!
Cons: The staff
Location: This area does not feel overly safe, but it does have very good transport links to the best bits of the city.
Wow, the staff in this hotel were quite frankly the most unwelcoming and obnoxious group of people that I have ever had the mispleasure of coming across. After having spent the previous twelve nights in different locations around the city and having the time of our lives, this almost ruined our entire stay. To look down your nose at a paying guest is just unexceptable, and we got it from everyone, receptionists, waiters and doormen.(the cleaning lady was lovely though!!) Closing the business for a fortnight to retrain their staff would be a start, but honestly, having worked in hospitality for over twenty years, in my opinion some of these people do not belong in my industry.

Just okay...location is everything...Posted Dec 4, 2012 on Hotels.com
Hotel room was abasolutely ancient...no wireless, single pane windows make for a very noisy stay. However, the location for doing business with Petrobras and other Brazilian O&G customers is excellent. All walking distance.

Good base for a trip to RioPosted Nov 19, 2012
Pros: Breakfast buffet, helpful staff. Good view from the top terrace. Proximity to Metro
Cons: The local area is not so good at night, but Taxis are everywhere so not a big problem. Fitness facility disappointing.
Helpful staff and decent location near to the Metro, so you can get anywhere around Rio from here. Cheap Taxi ride to Lapa district for the nightlife... but don't walk from the hotel as the area is definitely seedy at night. OK to walk to Metro in the day. The Food at breakfast is great to start the day on a full stomach. lunch and dinner similar buffets, nothing fancy but wholesome food. The "fitness facility" is in need of renovation or upgrade as the equipment is very tired.
