Two nights in WathPosted Oct 31, 2013
Pros: Its homely nature and good food.
Cons: Let people know that there are two Waths in the vicinity!
Location: The location is ideal for visits to the Dales, Ripon, and many historical places of interest - Fountains Abbey.
Our stay for two nights was memorable because of the friendly welcome to The George and the comfort of the hotel. We were very impressed with the cuisine which included a very special pate and a superb beef which we have never seen before. So impressed we are revisiting TheGeorge next year, because it is in the centre of some marvellous scenery and provides a fantastic table after a hard days' holidaying!

Pros: The food and the room!!!
We had a wonderful time here. Luke was very accommodating and an excellent chef. The hotel was clean, central to where we wanted to visit and a pleasure to stay there. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Well worth a visitPosted Jul 22, 2013
Did a one night B&B plus evening meal here situated in a quiet very attractive upmarket village. The sun was at it hottest but the owner Caroline had made sure a fan was on in the room when we arrived. She couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The food was very good (try the Italian meat balls, really outstanding) and service excellent by Millie, her first night! This is really a resturant with a small bar area where the locals dominate (friendly enough if a bit loud) as it is the only place in the village for a drink. Worth seeking out as is a few miles off the main road system.

Great service in a superb locationPosted Jul 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
After spending 3 nights in a very poor hotel in York, The George at Wath was a vast improvement. The service was friendly and efficient and the rural location suited us perfectly. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. My only gripe would be the small size of our room (Ripon) which was classed as superior and to be fair, if the weather hadn't been so very hot, it would have mattered less. The owner quickly found us a fan, which did help the situation. The food is good and I recommend the ice cream with nut brittle. The chef gave me the recipe for the nut brittle, which I made this morning, so many thanks for that. We will return next time we are in North Yorkshire.

Popular pub with rooms in Yorkshire countrysidePosted Jul 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
Wath is a dot of a town in Yorkshire, for which The George is the local pub. It's on the main street, and has a generous parking lot in the rear. It has a small attached wing with several guest rooms and a small dining room to complement the main event, which is drinking at the bar. The hostess is cheerful, the rooms are comfortable with bathrooms up-to-date and clean, the dining menu is fairly standard but certainly satisfactory (although I probably wouldn't fuss with the sardine starter again ...), service is pleasant, and breakfast is the usual filling array. In short, a modest but entirely satisfactory place to stop over in the vicinity of Ripon. With the exception of the sardine, I'd be glad to repeat the experience.

Nice village retreatPosted May 28, 2013
Pros: Everything was 'easy' for the hosts
Cons: Having to leave to go to an evening reception, could have spent all evening in the bar/in the sun outside
Location: A bit in the sticks but taxis available, quiet and quaint
Really lovely, well decorated B&B style hotel, complete with nice bar below situated in a pretty and quiet village. (Complete with good Yorkshire made full English for breakfast!)
