“Fantastic!!!!”
This is a paradise guys!!! Everything is really perfect!!! The beach is handsome!!! The food is good!!! The drinks good!!! Cleaned beach, fantastic clear water!!! The staff is helpful but not annoying!!!! I wish I were there more days!!! Definetetly SUPER!!!!
“not impressed this time”
went to this same hotel 9 years ago and absolutely loved it. This time not impressed, front desk people seem t o tell you different things / anwsers for the same questions. poor maid service had to call for several items every day like wash clothes and kleenex. shows at night seemed very cheesy and borning. the speciality restaurants.. were poor food especially the sea food,... buffet was ok.. same food seemed every day.. kids loved the ice cream.
“Great Vacation Away!”
Overall a really nice resort. Food was good, staff were friendly and fast, place was clean and well maintained. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting mexico and I will definitely be back. I have travelled around a lot of north and south america and now live in the tropics and after all that I would definitely go back!
“Good Hotel....but...”
The Beach and water were just amazing. There were several pools and lots of areas to relax or have fun, whichever you may choose to do. The resort is a bit far from the airport (more than an hour car ride) but it was very close to many excursions as well as Mayana ruins (20 min) and Playa del Carmen (20 min). We had a great time at the resort overall, but there were a few negatives too. - The food was ok at best, the main problem was that the buffet food was often a bit cold. When it was warm it was fine. The food at the a la carte restaurants was great though. - The staff was just ok. I have been to other all-inclusive resorts with much more involved/interactive staff. All of the staff was friendly, they just didn't interact as much as I like. - The hotel itself was ok, it was in good shape, but not great. Overall, we had a great time. I am not picky at all, so for people that are picky about food or the shape of the hotel may want to steer clear. For those that are looking for a great pool and amazing beach, this is the resort for you.
“Beautiful Resort, Nice Staff & Service but Dissapointing Food”
SERVICE & STAFF Upon arrival we were greeted by a smiling staff. We were lead to a private area where we were given a welcome glass of champagne while Mildred, our guest service rep. went over all the details of the resort. We were told our package was a Club Premium which we didn't even know we had. This included usage of all 4 Barcelo Resorts, Unlimited Premium Alcohol, Any of the restaurants on the resort, Some of the water activities and the list goes on. Everyday the staff was polite and catering to our needs. ROOM & CLEANLINESS Our room was average and seemed like a few things needed to be replaced or cleaned. For instance our sink had a little mold & crud on the handle and the curtains needed a good wash but overall the king size bed was comfortable and clean and the maids did our beds every morning and replaced towels when needed. I have to say the resort itself was immaculate. The lush plants and flowers were well maintained, clean beaches and even the gym was well sanitized. FOOD We were so disappointed in the food, almost inedible. The staff would handle the food with their hands, the food would sit under the light for hrs without turnover & either the food was over salted or not salted. I was hoping for some authentic Mexican Food but you will not find it here. Overall the resort was breathtaking & the staff was courteous however we will not be returning because of the food quality. Maybe if they find a new cooking staff and chef we will come back.
“We enjoyed our stay very much...”
Overall great experience. Beach is beautiful , 2.5 km long, white sand. Lots of activities and entertainment for all ages. Shows were spectacular but for adults only, I would say. Food variety is excellent. Would definetely go back. Also , we were there during hurricane Rina and staff was very prepared to take care of tourists and provide safety. Fortunately, the hurricane was category 2 and it just rained but if something were to happen I felt safe at Barcelo.
“No Habla”
While the Bacelo Properties are well maintained with, gorgeous flora, soft white sand beaches and sparkling pools, they seem to cater to a European/Hispanic clientele. The wait staff is very friendly but do not seem to be very well versed in English. You can ask the same question to 3 different people and get 3 different answers, so you are generally left to figure it out yourself. Maya Beach is at the low end of the 5 resorts, while being comfortable, it is nothing like the Palace. So if price is not a problem, then by all means choose the Palace! I have to agree with all the other reviews I read before going: the buffet food is average at best and the 45 mile van trip from Cancun is long and tiring. Our Expedia Travel Rep, Alan, was very helpful and we were fortunate to have his help. We highly recommend the Chitzen Itza and Rio Secreto excursions. We have been spoiled in the past by staying places where English is a second language that has been mastered. If you go, you should be fully aware that you are going someplace where you are a foreigner and it might be hard to be understood. All things considered, it was a good trip, but we would not go back.
“MEXICO 2011”
The hotel was excellant, the staff was friendly always greeted you with a smile and hola. Most of all the beach was to die for. Always groomed free of trash and the white sand was wonderful. Buffets were average but good, alacarte restaurantes were good and seating was immediate. Plenty of things to see and do on the resort. Would go back tomorrow....
“What a Beach!!!”
If you value a superb beach, this ones got it. Soft coral sand extending until belly deep. Healthy fresh food. Just the right balance of samba water aerobics and peace. Fun nightly shows.
“Not impressed”
My husband and I just came back from our trip to this hotel and we were not impressed at all. The room, the pool and hotel activities/shows were just average, definitively not the best we've seen. Also, the food was really bad and we were extremely dissapointed. We will not be staying there again.
