Beautiful resort for family

Posted Aug 16, 2014
It is a beautiful hotel without live entertainment it is missing dancing floor/ lounge where after all the eating we could dance by the way the discoteque jaguar is such a sad place the management could use such a gorgeous pool area and beach for the night dancing I stayed in many different places and this hotel is the most beautiful resort but its is very sad without music by the way the piano in the lobby bar could be more lively and this area could be used to dance I stayed with the group of my friends we all live in N.Y. we are between 40-45 years old and we felt like 70 only coz there were no dancing please use some of the live band the hotel guests were pretty young people and travel to Cancun for entertainment it is a little out of the way especially if you pay $$$ for this resort also the meat quality like the ones in the restaurant especially beef could be better grade it was never cooked the way I liked and always overcooked and cold but I give 5* for the Buffett food very good

Nice, but we won't return

Posted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: The snorkeling off the beach.
Cons: Bars and pools that stay open later for adults. Food cart available by pool/beach.
Nice resort but a LOT of kids, many very young. A huge negative to us was that there was no place to get any food when at the beach or pool without putting on shoes and shirts. You can't walk up to a food cart or an outdoor grill to get something to eat because there are none and none of the restaurants will allow you to bring anything outside, including on the patio right outside their door. One in our group tried to bring a hot dog outside in a paper napkin and was told No. I could not bring a plate outside on the patio about 4 feet from the door so those in our party could have something to eat right after a snorkel excursion when they didn't have shoes and shirts. The pools, ocean and bars close way too early....7 to 8 pm. We felt like they only catered to the families with small children and if you didn't have kids, there was not much to do after everything shut down. My husband started calling this the resort of No because we were told No so many times. The best thing about this resort was the snorkeling right off the beach. Bring your own snorkel equipment because we never saw any at the resort to use. They had it for sale in their shops but it was very expensive. This was our 6th trip to the Riviera Maya area of Mexico and we will not return to this resort.

The service is outstanding.

Cons: Bathrooms need improvement.
Location: The location is great 20 minutes is Playa del Carmen and lots of water parks and shopping and things to do. Xel- ha, Xcarer, Xplor, Tulum are close.
This is our 4th time there and we always have a great experience. Food is great. Service is wonderful. The only thing I noticed this time around is that the public restrooms are in bad shape, the use is massive and some doors don't lock and others get stuck, ect. Water sports like kayak, sailing and water bikes are included and fun. No doubt you will definite enjoy your stay.

Beautiful Resort with Top Notch Food

Posted Jul 26, 2014
Pros: The layout, the pool, and the food.
Cons: The only thing they're missing is an upscale spa. They are building another property on the grounds, so I hope they're adding one
Location: You can shop in Playa Del Carmen, visit the ruins, parasail, ATV jungle trips, and visit the cenotes which are incredible.
We went there for our annual anniversary trip. We travel a lot and have been to many wonderful resorts and hotels (like the Four Seasons on the Big Island and Maui last year). We'd been to a Barcelo twice before, so we expected it to be nice, but it exceeded our expectations. It was a beautiful resort that was elegantly designed with wonderful pools and a nice beach. We live in Chicago, so we're used to fantastic food. The Barcelo did not disappoint us. We had fresh seafood everyday with a wide variety of other choices and restaurants on a daily basis. They had nightly entertainment and an elegant bar area that was open 24 hours. The staff was friendly and very hard working. We had the deluxe package, so we had access to everything and visited the other properties in the complex. We will definitely be back.

Beach is superb for snorkeling!

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Property grounds, pool, beach, food and drinks
Cons: check in time took over 1 1/2 hours . You need more staff at lobby desk.
Location: 20 minutes away from Playa del Carmen 10 minutes away from Xcaret
I have stayed in several all inclusive hotels in the Cancun area, and this is by far the best one!!! Excellent customer service, beautiful property grounds, Excellent food and superb beach. The pool is awesome as well! Kids club keeps them entertained for hours, and the kids waterparks in the Maya Palace and Beach Palace were very nice. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind. I will be back for sure next year............
