"Well located boutique hotel. Outstanding breakfast"
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and had a great time. The owner and staff are terrific, they get to know everyone personally. Fantastic breakfast in the mornings - a real highlight and included in out stay. A cute, boutique setting in a location right between the beach and Fifth Avenue. Great restaurant next door as well. Highly recommended...it really was a great location - easy to walk to beach (5-10 min?) and fifth avenue 2 minutes away. Quiet

This was a great experience, our second time staying at this hotel. Of course, this is not 5 stars like the Ritz Carlton but for the value is 6 stars! The hotel is spotless and there is more than enough room in the apartments. Very nice staff and lots of extras (passes to beach club, free bicycle rentals, fresh coffee and tea throughout the day). If you do not care about staying on the beach and you want to save some money, I highly recommend Palms. And even though the beaches and jungles of Tulum have much to offer, do not discount town itself. It was nice to be in walking distance to the excellent restaurants and local (tame) nightlife in town. A tip: as of October 2014, there is noisy construction next to the hotel on the east side. I would recommend asking for a room on the north or west side of the property.

We stayed 5 days at Petit Lafitte and we couldn`t be more pleased. The location is great, the beach is gorgeous, the food and the staff are wonderful. If you`re looking for a romantic and relaxing place close to Playa del Carmen this is a great option.

Such a unique experience in Playa. Felt as though we owned half of the hotel, and only saw a few guests in passing. Probably due to when we traveled, but I can imagine even when the resort is completely booked, it still has a secluded feel. Definitely spring for the Penthouse or larger condos with a roof top terrace. We hung out their often. Lounging on the couches, spending time in the private hot tub and grilling out, was awesome. We weren't on the beach, but had a nice view of the ocean from condo 312.
I'm not sure why other reviewers complained about the breakfast. We thought it was awesome and there were lots of options, at two different locations. Also it wasn't a boring buffet. You choose from a large menu, which is uncommon for a complementary breakfast. You can use your free "breakfast cards" from 8am-2pm. So no more worrying about missing breakfast. Only complaint was the weak, strange coffee. You will want to bring your own roast from home and make it in your room.
The beach was not very nice while we were there, due to sea weed. That's not entirely the hotels fault, though it does seem as though they could do something more to keep it clean. The beach lounger and large bed options were awesome and included at not additional charge.

We stayed at Playa Palms for our week-long honeymoon in October and it was absolutely wonderful. We wanted to go to Playa del Carmen not just for the gorgeous beaches but also for the array of activities that can be done in the fairly close vicinity- exploring ancient Mayan ruins and Cinotes, experiencing Mexican culture and landscape, eating delicious tacos from street vendors... so staying at a huge resort was out of the question for us. We wanted to treat ourselves for our honeymoon though, and Playa Palms was the perfect boutique hotel right on the beach, close to the main drag of shops and restaurants. It's very close to car rental places if you want to escape for the day, and it's literally next door to all the best nightlife in town. We stayed in the Ocean Front Studio which was on the top floor and it had incredible unobstructed views of the ocean that you can see while you're in bed. It also had a little loft with a single bed that would be fun for kids but we didn't utilize that at all. Breakfast was delivered to our patio every day, we had a kitchenette and minifridge that we could stock up with snacks so the lack of a hotel restaurant was not an issue at all. The bed was a little hard and our backs were a little sore after 6 days but nothing that a nice waterfront massage couldn't remedy. The staff was attentive and friendly too!
Overall it was incredible stay and I'd definitely recommend Playa Palms to fellow travelers!
