“Not impressed”
If this is what Eco-Tourism is all about, I can do without.
“Go for the masaje de xocolat (yep, that's a Chocolate Massage)”
Unfortunately my stay at the Cabanas Copal was only for a one -night stopover. The shorefront cabin was beautifully situated overlooking a wonderful beach from which crashing waves lulled me to sleep, followed by the rising sun on waves the next morning. The staff was friendly, cheerful, helpful and genuinely interested in making my stay the best. They were attentive to details, helped set up a taxi for my return to Cancun Airport, and even gave out hugs! The bar overlooking the beach was relaxed and comfortable. The main dining area was okay, not outstanding. I would have chosen other dinner options had I been traveling with another person. Remember it's clothing optional on the beach, and people do opt. And did I mention the massage? The "Maya Spa" had more options than any spa I've seen in the US. Seriously. From Reiki to Deep Tissue, Spiritual Healing to Cranial Sacral plus beauty treatments galore. But just for fun, do try the chocolate massage. You'll have to wash away even the last iota of modesty, but it's worth it.
“Pretty much what I expected”
3 of us stayed in the Quad Oceanview #2 at the end of October. Check-In was super smooth and quick and a hotel worker led us to our Cabana so we had no problem finding it. All staff members were extremely friendly and helpful with any questions. The beach was absolute paradise! I never had a problem obtaining a chair and it was not crowded at all. Definitely a clothing optional beach so if that sort of thing bothers you, you've been warned. We had the beach all to ourselves at night and would sit out there, drink and stargaze like there was no one else on earth. The location is great - near a lot of other Cabana places and only like a $3.50 U.S. fare to town. My only caveat is that I'm not sure if they have maid service or if you have to ask for it and we had a problem with mosquito netting coming down and told someone, but noone ever came to fix it. It really wasn't a big deal because we didn't need it at this time of year anyway. All in all, if you're looking for a rustic, "get away from it all" experience and you don't want to be bothered by anyone, this is the place to go.
