Relaxing holiday for all!Posted Aug 27, 2014
Pros: The hotel staff were fantastic especially the leader in the Mini Club for the kids.
Cons: See comments above re beds and live music. Some parts of the hotel looked tired and refurbishment work was being conducted?
Location: The resort was fantastic and plenty of opportunities to see the local area. Our youngest loved the chance to swim with dolphins!
The resort was great apart from the holiday club reps wanting to show you the "non time share" possibilities. Bigger beds would have made the nights better. The bar near to the reception had live music each night and this was too close to the rooms especially on nights where sleep was wanted? The Spa was great and to be highly recommended for relaxing & chilling massages - ask for Pedro and Laura!

Relaxing nice hotelPosted Aug 24, 2014
Hotel was spotless and very safe. I was a little intimidated by all the security but I was also thankful for it. Drinks are overall very sweet but the workers are there to please you. The food wasn't the best that I have ever had but it wasn't bad. It really was beautiful and relaxing. I also drank the water and was ok. We also brought water shoes and were very thankful for them.

Great Hotel with wonderful staff!Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: Catalonia has great staff who go above and beyond. The facilities are great and the food is delicious.
Cons: The Nightmare show on Thursday night should be for adults only. I took my daughters to see it and left because the show is not family oriented.
Location: The hotel is in Puerto Aventuras. Playa del Carmen and Tulum are near by. Catalonia has different activities and entertainment inside the hotel.
We had a great time at Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort and Spa. The people who work at Catalonia go the extra mile to make sure you are happy and comfortable. We really enjoyed the food, the facilities and the entertainment. Alan and Rebeca from the El Mercado restaurant were very kind and friendly. The person who clean our room was awesome. She left little things to enhance the room such as flowers or animals made of towels. We enjoyed the Mexican Show and the Mexican evening around the swimming pool area. Ita from the Kids Club was great with my daughter. She had a great time at the Kids Club and had the oportunity to meet kids from all over the world. In sum, it was a great hotel with wonderful staff.

Catalonia is a little disappointingPosted Aug 16, 2014
Pros: Rooms are clean and staff is friendly. Buffet has a good variety of food.
Cons: The rooms need a ceiling fan in them.
Location: Xcarat and Xplor are 10 mins away. Akamul beach is about 15 mins away if you want to snorkel with turtles.
The Catalonia: Upon check-in you get some useless coupon and options to upgrade(I did not). The upgrade cost is per person per night. For a family of 4 this is pretty pricey. The beach is nice, but rocky and you will need water shoes (shoes are $$$ at resort). Be careful around some of the rocks as I did see some sea urchins. The lagoon side is really warm, almost too warm. Be sure to get on the list for the Catamaran at 8:30AM every morn. If you have kids, there could be topless women at the beach. Didn't see much while snorkeling. The Japanese restaurant is good. The sashimi/suhi appetizer was good, the main course is alright. I love Italian food, and that was not Italian at the BellaVista. The steakhouse serves paper thin steaks that look more like a porkchops. The crepe place is a good place for some dessert. The buffet's have a descent selection of food. If you don't try to eat everything you see at one sitting, it won't get old so fast, so pace yourself day to day. The rooms are small and have almost no storage space. For a couple your probably fine, but for a family of 3 or 4 its not enough. The A/C in the room works, but there is almost no airflow in the room; the air is stagnant in the room and makes it feel warm. Catalonia is a 3 star resort. This is my 4th time to Playa at an all inclusive, but my first and last visit to Catalonia. you have better options elsewhere with better amenities. Pick somewhere closer to the activities your going to do.

Catalonia ParadisePosted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: The main dinners in the buffets were nice. The resort was gated.
Cons: The elevators should be fixed for the patrons to use The pools should be left open longer The second lobby should be used more for better location
Location: The private beach was nice, but way too much sea weed and very rocky. The water activities were very nice.
The experience was nice. The staff was prompt and friendly. The various foods were fresh and hot. The rooms were clean and maintained by housekeeping nicely.

Privilleged RoomPosted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: grounds were magnificent, EVERYTHING VERY CLEAN
Cons: FOOD. BEDS. SHEETS, PILLOWS,
Location: Zipline, rafting, atv, ruins, carmen de playa
We paid for a privilleged room with garden view but was facing the street. The beds were horrible, lumpy matteress and pillows. Needs new sheets as they were paper thin and the pillows were not only lumpy but small and flat. The room itself was very nice and the bathroom great. Very clean and everyone was very pleasant. Our housekeeper was exceptional. The resort was beautiful but the food did not match the money. Especially the steak resturant do not go there. We had 14 with our family and no one could eat the steak. They need more snorkels, sail boats and canoes. Had to wait long after putting our name on list. Bring shower shoes as the beach all along the resort is rocky, very rocky. We had a great time because we love the water and were all together at the beach. They would not make a table of 14 so we had to split 6 and 8 which is reasonable. If they read this maybe they will make improvements for it is beautiful there.

It was awesome and affordablePosted Aug 9, 2014
Beautiful place friendly staff - we felt pampered. Check out the spa, upgrade to privileged, and take a free bike ride to see the dolphins, we will go back for sure!

Great resort close to beach.Posted Aug 8, 2014
Staff were nice and very helpful. Close to beach and water was warm and clear. Had various types of foods to enjoy. Had one restaurant open late for late snacks. Also had a great group of performers for their nightly entertainment in the theater. My kids, wife and myself enjoyed our stay. It was wonderful.
