Nice place, not so nice beach!Posted May 28, 2015
I had a pleasant experience with our trip, pools were great, and the food was pretty good. We did the Privledged package, but I wouldn't recommend it. We didn't really see much benefit from it, and I think we would have enjoyed our stay just as much without it. The beach is not great, but tons of lounge chairs, and staff to help you. The snorkeling is really good though, which makes up for the rocks and seaweed! I would bring your own snorkel or buy a set on the first day. You only get snorkel gear from the resort for one hour, and can't get it after 3:30. Overall, it was nice and friendly!

Pros: The staff was friendly and the grounds were kept very clean. The upgraded rooms were nice
Cons: The food needs improvement. Especially the buffet. The choices were slim and not well prepared. Trays were not filled often
We upgraded to one of the newer rooms. Best thing we could have done. The original room that we were put in was very old and outdated

loved itPosted May 26, 2015
So glad we chose this resort. We had a great time! The service was amazing, everyone was polite and made us feel welcomed. Advice for new travelers, use your coupons that they give you at check in for additional high class restaurants. Loved the fact that they had activities by the pool daily.

Mixed feelingsPosted May 24, 2015
We got to our room and it had 2 double beds?? Its just me and my husband and I booked a king bed. The room was plain and not what's in the pictures. Huge roach in the room. I went and had our room changed. The second room was good but I was afraid to use anything because I didn't sign up for the "privileged " package which is ridiculous. You are treated different depending on your armband. I paid well for this vacation and feel ripped off. The only good place to eat was Japanese. Buffets were just ok. They need more pool fun. 1 to 2 games per day?? The shows start at 930. Too late for someone who's been drained from the sun all day. The beach REALLY sucks. I thought we'd be able to walk as far as we wanted to....Not! We won't be staying there again.

Relaxing ResortPosted May 24, 2015
Cons: To provide more information regarding entertainment in the welcome packages for the week. We missed out on some of the entertainment.
Location: The Marina is next door with shops, places to eat, and the dolphin enclosures.
The Catalonia is an excellent to stay for relaxation. The staff were kind, polite and always willing to help you in any way. The food was delicious in the specialty restaurants, the buffets were okay, but they did have a good breakfast. I would recommend the upgrade to privilege as we did as it had more to offer. The rooms were very clean, the grounds were beautiful and well kept and clean. The beaches were a little rocky since we were close to the marina. Check in and out was quick and easy and their was always someone in the front desk to help with any questions you would have. The room service was great. Overall, I would definitely go again.

Pros: Beautiful location.
Cons: Quicker, friendlier service in the buffets. More "themed/specialty" restaurant visits equal to nights/length of stay.
Location: Did not leave the resort.
Disappointing. Hotel staff not very polite or helpful. Poor service in buffets. Food was average. Long lines at the bars for watered down drinks. No real beach or area to swim in the ocean. No service in the limited sandy/beach area.

Close to beach, very clean, staff are friendlyPosted May 21, 2015
Pros: The atmosphere is informal, people are friendly.
Cons: Wifi sometimes is slow in the evening when everyone is emailing :)
Location: You can walk into town for restaurants, ice cream, drinks, visit the Dolphin Experience, pyramids at Coba/ Tulum, swim at cents, jungle trails.
We have stayed here three times and have always been very pleased with the service and the helpful and friendly staff, even when we've arrived at 11.30pm or later. The restaurants, rooms and bathrooms are kept very, very clean! We also liked the buffet from which to pick and choose (food is very fresh, good range) and the bar staff are generous with the drinks. We've stayed at several other resorts in the area (Sirenis, Oasis Tulum, Akumal Beach Resort) but keep on coming back to this one because of the good service and value- and when you come back, the staff remember you!!
