Cons: New mattresses for the beds and a clean air condition.
Bed were in a bad condition we had dorsal pain after 2 nights there. You see at the walls mold and the air-condition blows bad smelling air. We had to wash all our clothes even those we don't worn because the extremely grumpily smelling air in the room. The pool and the beach is nice and clean.

Elegant and intimate hotel north of Tulum.

Posted Apr 14, 2015
Pros: Great food, all drinks included, one of the best beaches in the area, beautiful rooms and very pleasant staff.
Cons: The Italian restaurant could be improved. All other restaurants are great. Some juices were not natural but canned. Lobster at lobster feast was dry.
Location: Hotel south of Playa del Carmen and north of Akumal and Tulum. Great cenotes (Azul, Dos Ojos, and Eden). Tulum and Coba Ruins, Xel-Ha, etc. near by.
All inclusive + all adult = best experience ever. This hotel is exclusive. The food is very good with great buffets for breakfast and lunch and five restaurants for dinner, all drinks included, beautiful beach, wonderful staff, lush gardens with coati, iguanas, different kinds of birds, great shows and beach parties every night, all for a great price.

Beautiful setting.

Posted Mar 31, 2015
Pros: The setting and park like pathways. The pool area is perfect. Bartenders were great. Food outstanding.
Cons: Eliminate VIP upcharge and reserved section on beach.
Location: Many historical sights and activities to choose from.
Beautiful setting. Enjoyed the tree lined walkways to lobby and beach. Rooms nice and clean. Great service at all bars. Pool area was great. Not thrilled with "pool chair saving" as early as 7:00 am. Also rather turned off by VIP section and status at additional cost. None of these issues would stop me from going back or suggesting CRT.

A once-beautiful resort gone bad....

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: It is a beautiful beach and the staff are mostly friendly, courteous and helpful.
Cons: Catalonia needs to drop this sleazy business model that includes carving out "privileged" sections of the beach and "privileged" restaurants.
Location: Xpu-ha is a beautiful beach. Tulum and Playa del Carmen are not far away and accessible with a colectivo taxi.
We returned to the Catalonia Royal Tulum all-inclusive resort to discover that they have carved away about 1/3 of the best side of the beach to make it and the new restaurant available only to folks that want to pay additional for access to it or join their newest version of a timeshare-like scheme, their Exclusive Travelers Club. Unfortunately, from the moment that we walked into the resort, we were subjected to a high-pressure sales routine- where they were only asking for many thousands of dollars to be put on your credit card and an additional 36 payments of a couple of hundred a month. For that price, you get access to their Exclusive Travelers Club, which is worse than a timeshare, because you only get the "privilege" of booking all of your vacations through Catalonia and not even a unit to call your own. Most of the staff are great and the facility is on a beautiful beach, but I would never return here or to any of the Catalonia properties as this seems to be their new business model. We sat through their entire 2-hour presentation on this Exclusive Travelers Club and told them no at the end, but they subjected us to sleazy, high-pressure sales tactics including having one of the salesman try to intimidate us by telling us that he was a "lawyer" as if that would encourage us to sign up. What a shame!

Great get away

Posted Mar 29, 2015
Great place to get away. Gorgeous beaches, friendly staff, GORGEOUS HOTEL GROUNDS. Not too much to do at night. Food is pretty good but who goes to an all-inclusive for the food. I spent a great deal of time searching for a much needed get away and I am so happy I came across Catalonia Royal Tulum. If you're on the edge about this place just do it and GO. Cons: cater to Italians, beach towels not replaced every day and you have to find someone to get them for you

Pros: Just about everything. I was disappointed that they had removed the fountain in the lobby.
Location: All kinds of tours, ( to numerous to enumerate), Playa del Carmen about 20 min. north. Middle of jungle, nothing but peace and quite.
Been to resort 3 times. This was our 40th anniversary trip. Recommend resort to anyone. My wife and I were to worn out from our day to day routine to take advantage of any of the tours, but we just relaxed around the pool. The peace and quite of the adult all-inclusive was just the ticket we needed to refresh! We were disappointed in the rough surf, but there is nothing that can be done about that. We recommend this resort to all. Small, great food, excellent spa, friendly staff, and all around spotless condition. Hope you enjoy too!

Second time...best time...

Posted Mar 7, 2015
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Can't think of a thing...
Location: A little over an hour from Cancun, 20 minutes from Playa and most excursions.
What can I say... It's our second stay at this resort in two years. Four of us in our group literally could not find a better place to stay for the money so we picked Catalonia again for our second trip to Playa. Great time. Everything about the resort was even better then the year before. If you are looking for a smaller resort, free of children this place rocks. The grounds, food, drinks and amenities are top notch. Anything you need will arrive within 5 minutes. The room is perfect, very clean. The staff respects your wishes and will give you anything you need quickly. The grounds are like being in a Mexican jungle. Lots of wildlife and natural flora. The food...wow! Tons of choices. We ended up going to the buffet a lot since we were with a member that keeps kosher and another member that is a vegetarian. The choices are endless. Drinks... top notch with expensive tasting alcohol and natural mixers, not cheap stuff at all! The beach and pool... clean and well kept. Very safe with a few security guards roaming around discreetly. Mark your chairs early though (that sucked). We just got back 3 days ago and are already talking about going back. Don't hesitate to give this place a try.

Fabulous vacation and amazing food!

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: The intimacy of a smaller resort, with large resort amentities We also enjoyed the fact that is was adults only.
Cons: More music and entertainment during the day at the pool.
Location: Punta Cana for shopping and dinner, Tulum ruins and Xel-Ha.
We have stayed at many larger all inclusives and this hotel by far has been the favorite. The service was fantastic and the grounds were georgous! We did upgrade our room to the Premiere basically for the larger room size, but we did not use any of the extra benefits besides the couples massage. The buffets had alot of varitey but were not overwhelming. The speciality resturants, (there are 5 for dinner and 1 that serves lunch) were fabulous. The Tapas was our favorite! The pool and beach area were beautiful. There was alot of seaweed on the beach, but this was due to the time of year and had nothing to do with the resort. Staff was out every morning clearing it away and grooming the beach area. It was never difficult to get a drink at the pool as the bar was well staffed and there was staff serving around the pool area as well. I woudl not hesitate to stay here again. Traveler tip, go and secure a chair early in the morning to get a good spot at the pool. As with any resort the pool area fills up quickly.
