“Good Hotel, Nice Facilities”

This is a good place to stay rather than Cancun or Playa del Carmen. It's much quieter than either of those places. I had a room on the top level with a good view, but quite a hike up the stairs. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to town. The internet is rather limited with only wireless available in the lobby area, and that being rather slow. There is also a modest business center with about the same service. The service at the hotel was First Class with the staff trying their best to make everyone happy. The grounds are very nice with two pools. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to get away from the buzz of Cancun or Playa del Carmen. The Town of Puerto Morelos was a real treat, and a short walk from the hotel down the beach or on the road. You can also bike to town on one of the bikes there. Swiming on any of the beaches around the area can be quite dangerous due to strong currents, and is not recommended.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the Beach Bar and Restaurant down the road called the Money Bar (one mile north), and also many places in town such as John Grays. The entire area is really nice. They have very inexpensive first class buses from Cancun's Airport or from Playa Del Carmen, and taxis back and forth to town are very reasonable.

“The Absolute Best!!”

My husband & I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at Ceiba del Mar. The resort itself is beautiful-pictures don't do it justice. Our room was so comfortable and remained true to its Mayan heritage. The service was beyond impressive....everyone from the front desk, butlers, room service, pool service and spa was so nice, friendly and genuine. We have traveled all over and truly can't wait to get back to Ceiba del Mar!

Area recommendations
We loved Puerto Morelos, a charming fishing village with great restaurants and shops.
Getting there
Took USA transfers and they made our transfer so easy. They were prompt, curteous, and very reasonable.
Must see
Crococun Zoo was a great experience with local guides and amazing animals. We were up close and personal with snakes, iguanas, monkeys, deer, and crocodiles!
Dining
We ate mostly in Puerto Morelos and really enjoyed El Pescador, La Terraza, Merkadito del Mar, Las Palmeras, and al Chimichurri. You can't go wrong with any of these local places.

“Relaxing and Romantic Getaway”

Small resort, 15 miles south of Cancun. Excellent service, top quality restaurants, wonderful location right on the beach and at walking distance from the fishermen village of Puerto Morelos. Very private and romantic! We spent a week in October 2010 and can't wait to go back next year!

Area recommendations
Rent a car and visit some of the villages away from the Riviera Maya. You will discover a different reality and have contacts with the people.

“Great place to relax, I can't wait to return to Ceiba Del Mar”

I truly love the Ceiba Del Mar Resort!!! The suites are so comfortable and the beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on at a hotel. Top notch friendly service by all of the staff members of the Ceiba Del Mar Resort. They are very willing to try to make it your very best experience ever. I1 like that the resort is not a big mega resort, but smaller and more intimate. The The food and beverages were very good. Spa is also very special.

Area recommendations
Puertos Morelos is 15 minute walk down the beach. It is a quaint little town and snorkeling boat trips take you out to a beautiful reef. The boat tours are very concious about your safety and the reef.

“Heaven should take notes...”

Ceiba del Mar provided my wife Kathryn and I with a wonderful three nights away from our busy lives. For three weeks since our return, I find myself staring at my screen-saver, wondering why I boarded the plane and left Mexican Heaven behind. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and somehow achieves this without intruding on the intoxicating simplicity of puerto morelos. Leaving the staff proved almost as hard as leaving the resort itself. Javier, Jorge, and Christian truly went above & beyond and we wish we could pack them in our luggage to take care of us on every vacation. We will return to Ceiba, again and again and again.

“Can't wait to go back... again!”

We've stayed at Ceiba del Mar several times and they never disappoint. In fact, this beautiful and relaxing spa/resort just keeps getting better. Amazing location, quiet ambience, elegant rooms, and friendly but polished service. I highly recommend Ceiba del Mar for an adult getaway in the Riviera Maya. We've tried other hotels along the Caribbean coast and nothing compares to Ceiba del Mar.

Area recommendations
We really love Puerto Morelos, Mexico. It's one of the only towns along the Riviera Maya that has retained its small intimate status as a fishing village. It's growing which is important for the local economy but they are working diligently to remain a special, truly Mexican, destination.
Getting around
Many people go the Riviera Maya to simply sit on the beach and hang out in their resort but please rent a car and get out and see the local small towns and historical sites. Puerto Morelos is a delightful, very small and intimate fishing village that harks back to what the area was like before Cancun. And there are a number of really terrific restaurants in the village. Playa del Carmen is busy but actually quite lovely for a stroll--just don't expect much more than tacky shopping and a lot of tourists but it's still worth seeing. Most importantly, within just a few areas are two extraordinary and important Mayan site--Coba, which is not fully excavated, is in the middle of the jungle and a true treasure, and a bit farther away (3 hours by car) is Chitchen Itxa, one of the most well known and truly stunning Mayan sites. You will never the experience of seeing it's pyramids, ball courts, and other important structures. So don't just lay on the beach--get out and experience Mexico!

“Relax and Enjoy”

What a find! We were looking for a relaxing, no hassle vacation, and we got that and more. We had a master suite for my wife, myself, and our 11 year old son. It was perfect: well appointed, spacious, comfortable. The Mexican decor adds an extra touch of class. We debated the all inclusive option vs the European plan. We finally selected the all inclusive option, and we were glad we did. The food and service in the restaurants were outstanding. Service is always with a smile. Every meal was tasty and well presented. We love fine dining, and we weren't disappointed. There was enough variety on the menus in the two restaurants, we never had the same thing twice. If you want something a little special ask your waiter if he can make you a "Mayan coffee" or "bananas flambe" after dinner of just sip on your favorite after dinner drink. Don't miss the opportunity to take advantage of the Spa and the Dive Shop. The reef within sight of the hotel is wonderful snorkling or novice scuba divers, and Enrique in the Dive Shop is a great instructor. The personalized attention he gave my son was a highlight of the trip for him. This is truly a "boutique" hotel. We will return!

“A hotel worth visiting!!!”

If your idea is to get away, relax and not be bothered with crowds, children and noise, Ceiba del Mar is your best bet. One must remember that when staying at Ceiba del Mar and visiting the Riviera Maya, places and restaurants are not always very accessible, however, it is the ideal escape and have overall great and enjoyable vacation. I would recommend for tourists to rent a car to travel easily into the city or the ruins. During our stay, the service was impeccable with one minor exception: the air conditioning in our room did not work properly but they were able to fix it. However, they went above and beyond when my son became ill and we had to rush him to the hospital in Can Cun. The staff was more than helpful pointing out different routes and hospitals. The next day, the entire hotel was aware and even more cautious and helpful with my family and friends. I can’t stop saying how fantastic the service was. Food is amazing and at a great price. Views from the rooms are incredible, the spa service is perfect (I highly recommend getting a massage) I would point out that this hotel seems to cater to adults and it does make it much more comfortable. Pets are welcomed too!!! Overall, we would go back in a heart beat.

Area recommendations
Can Cun offers a great deal of restaurants, but you should definitely visit Puerto Madero. It a great place, romantic, great food and an amazing view of the lagoon, although, be aware that it’s a somewhat expensive place. In Playa del Carmen I would recommend eating at Yaxche, which offers typical Mayan Cuisine. However, if you are visiting the ruins or eco-parks like Xcaret, be careful with the food. It does get really hot and food might go bad.
Must see
If you like Mayan history and ruins, try to visit Coba, probably the least known of the ancient ruins (Mayan Capitol city) but one of the most interesting. Xcaret is always amazing…stay for the nigh show which can be enjoyed with a great dinner during the show. If you have the time, another must-see is Chichen-Itza (one of the seven world wonders), Valladolid, Itzamal and Merida. They are all far away but worth visiting.
