“Couldn't swim in the ocean....”

Beautiful beach but the water is too shallow to swim. It was so funny looking at people just walking around in the water...nobody swam. There was a large hose across the ocean under the water which interfered with the beauty. We really enjoyed the food....everything we ate was very delicious. Especially the fried fish and taco was amazing.

“they simply didn´t have our room and changed us to another hotel”

i book this hotel months in advance, and payed for the most expensive room they have, as it was part of our honeymoon. We got there, and the service was great, but they told us our room was not ready, so they offered us lunch and a great ocen view, while they "readied our room". three hours later we asked what was happening with our room, and were escorted back to the main lobby. And there they simply told us there had been a "maintenence problem" they could not solve, so they offered a change of hotel and an upgrade. After arguing with them for a long time they compensated us with the upgraded room and a free candellight dinner at the beach. At the end we stayed at the "el dorado royale casitas" which is a much better hotel and the room, food, service and experience was much more than what we expected. But the sad part was that one of the hotel´s sales people told me that since we had booked through expedia.com the hotel couldn´t guarantee a room even if we where charged in advanced since they don´t give priority to "small" agencies. Whatever the real problem was, we came out with a much better deal and had a wonderful honeymoon. And we will continue using expedia for it´s wonderful and hassel free services, and the great deals and prices.

Area recommendations

Ciudad del Carmen, specially it´s 5th ave. is a great place to visit, shop and eat. There is a mayan cuisine restaurant called "Yaxche" which is a most, awesome food and great service.

“Good, not great”

“Palm Springs says go to this paradise NOW!!!!”

Just got back from Paradise! Stayed at El Dorado Maroma from July 16th thru the 26th of 2010. It was perfect. If you are looking for total relaxation and a quiet peacefull retreat, this is the place. The resort was at 92% occupancy, and you felt like you were in a place that was at about 15% occupancy. No problem finding lounge chairs or beach beds anytime of day. Restaurant reservations never needed, just show up and eat. And eat we did! The food was great. Please consider that if you only expect stabdard steak and potatoes fare, this is not the place for you. Every dish is of a gourmet version. All have specialized sauces or twists that render the dish as unique. Don't go here to order a hamburger, or pizza or even a steak with fries or a baked potatoe. The closest you will get to just straight up american dinner, or steak house food will be breakfast, where you can order any type of egg dish you want. Service was impeccable. When we would leave the pool bar the bartender would emplore us to stay! Towel art on our bed every night. Room was great, bed comfortable. Beach was supurb. Tranquil shallow water out for over 150 Yards. Great clean white sand. No surf shoes required for going into the water, just soft sand.

“Great for a life re-boot.”

Small and intimate-great if you don't want big crowds. Pool and beach lounge chairs were freely available, no need for reserving. The area of beach they have is well secluded from the usual busy tourist beach scene The staff were all very friendly. The food and drink for an all-inclusive, was good. They happily made moifications to any drink or menu items if requested. The rooms were very clean and roomy. If I had to make one negative comment, they didn't have a person regularly walking the beach to get drink orders. We usually had to go to the bar.
