    “El Dorado Royale”

This hotel is very nice, but the main rooms (i.e. anything except the casitas) are a little outdated. Our hot water went out and the air conditioning put out high humidity air (not necessary in this region), which made everything wet and sticky. The beach is terrible too. They are trying to grow coral reefs and have giant sandbags all over the beach. It looks like a school of whales beached themselves. It's also very rocky. All of that being said, the food and alcohol are all above average and the people are warm and welcoming.

    Outdoors or beach
    NOT a good beach!!

    “Eh.............”

Went for a friend's wedding. Reserved "Ocean View room" which costs a little more. Don't bother, there is no such thing. No view, no tv remote, no remote for the air conditioning so it was freezing. Room #1, not ready, so placed in room lacking all the items mentioned. They said I'd get a new room the next day. It wasn't until I complained and walked a long way before I received another room within 2 hours. I had to sign a slip saying I was getting a free upgrade to "ocean front." This wasn't really true either, but either way this room had everything, but the tv was not good and the picure was crooked. Location of room was central which was great (building 5 (500's). Extremely clean resort.

“Great Resort - Can't wait to return”

Great Resort that met all my expectations. The grounds were beautiful and well-kept. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I was completely impressed by their eco/sustainability efforts. Lots of restaurants to choose from and we actually didn't get a chance try them all. It was great that we didn't have to worry about making reservations or have wait for a table when we get to the restaurants. The best restaurant is D'Italia (which is the only resto I'd actually consider gourmet, but I have very high food standards). The best meal however, was the lobster candlelight beach dinner. If you do opt for the candlelight dinner, upgrade to the lobster dinner. I'm typically not a lobster fan, but it was prepared wonderfully. For breakfast, hit up Cocotal, they have a great selection of food, including fresh fruits! One thing I'd recommend if you are looking for a relaxing swim, is to find the Salt Water pool by the beach! I didn't even know they had one but had a great time playing in it. My only complaint would be that the cocktails were a little weak and some of the bars only had 1 tequila option =/ Overall, I had a great time and can't wait to return.

    “Great, but not Perfect”

The resort was absolutely beautiful! Very many positives, but some negatives were the food was almost like they tried to be too fancy therefore dinners took nearly two hours, a lot of walking, and the beach was not the greatest. Other than that it was a fantastic resort!!

    “Tips to enjoy”

This hotel is a gourmet one, so if you are looking for awesome meals and wine, this is the place. It is fantastic to relax, the service is very good. We also attend a chat to introduce us the spare time system for which we've receive in exchange a romantic meal at the beach. They never pushed us to make a purchase, in fact, there was a quality control after that where we were asked about the meeting. The rooms were great. We recommend the beach front is you prefer to stay near the sea. Our room was 30 mts from our Palapa, and the drink service was excellent. It has different kinds of restaurants and we've tried them all!!! The artificial reef is fantastic to snorkel because is not deep and there are lots of tropical fishes. You can also find huge pieces of coral all over the beach! We loved it. The Hotel also has a theather where you cand attend cover bands and other shows and have a drink. It's nice if you don't want to go outside. The spa is great! go and enjoy it, the service is excellent. They also have gym, bikes if you want and tennis courts. You can take scuba clasess and go snorkeling, you can parasail...it's great to have fun and to relax. One last thing! you can get married beside the beach or in the chappel..so be careful hahahaha

    Area recommendations
Xcaret (thematical park), Xel-Ha (natural aquarium where you can swim with marvellous fishes), Xplor (adventure park), Chichen Itza, Tulum (go early and stay all day on the beach), Playa del Carmen, go to Fusion bar, at the beach on the corner with the 6th Street, Cancun at night (the Coco Bongo), Sian Can National reserve.
    When to go
if you go in April, you have the best wheather...sun every day! awesome nights
    What to pack
Casual clothes, confortable sandals (forget the hills), a very light jacket for the night. Your bag must be like a boarding bag...you'll be all day in bikini or shorts and T shirt.
    Must see
The reef fishes. If you take your own snorkel equipment you won't regret!
    Dining
Try all the restaurants! they are all fantastic. We preferred the Italian one and the fondue one. The japanese is good, but as we are acustommed to one of the best japanese restaurants in Buenos Aires, we weren´t impressed. The natural food restaurant to have lunch is great! ideal to have a light but delicious meal and then to have a nap at your palapa before snorkeling all the afternoon.
    Outdoors or beach
from morning to afternoon, the beach is great, the water is warm and there is a delicious wind all over
    Other
the spa is really good, the massage is great!

“Extremely Impressed, Clean and Great Service”

My wife and I just returned from El Dorado Royale after celebrating our 25th Anniversary. We have been to many resorts of the past 20 years and this resort is at the top of our list. What really impressed us was the quality of service and the friendliness of the staff. Everyone, from the servers to the bartenders to the gardeners always had a smile and a hola (OH-la). The resort is beautiful and kept extremely neat and clean. There were plenty of open beds/lounge chairs and they had a zillion swim-up bars, most without crowds and noise. There were plenty of activities (we took the bike tour) but mostly we relaxed on the beach bed and cooled off in the beautiful ocean or the pool. The ocean was so clean and clear that we sat in an area that had tropical fish swimming around us. There were many restaurant choices and you will eventually figure out the best places to eat and snack. Food was of high quality and we did not need a reservation for the most part. We would definitely recommend El Dorado Royale. This is the first time we have written a review so you know it was a very enjoyable experience for us.
