Beautiful get-away
Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: friendly staff, variety of dining options, different pool choices
Location: We enjoyed our excusion to Indiana Joe's for the cenote, dry cave, and zip line. Would have liked to see the mayan ruins as well.
My husband and I stayed at El Dorado Royale for our honeymoon. We thought that the size of the resort (not huge, but big enough to have a good variety in restaurants, pools, etc.) was perfect, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed each of the restaurants, and also enjoyed walking around the resort to get to the different restaurants and exploring a bit. We liked that we could find a pool/space that was quiet and relaxing, or if we wanted we could have spent time at the central pool that was more busy and active. It was a great stay!

Paradise stay at El Dorado

Pros: Food, service, the resort is beautiful and we loved the beachside lounge areas and the bars right on the beach.
Cons: A couple of times felt sales-y: tried to upsell us on a different room while checking in, and approached us about buying massages.
Location: We went on a tour that included Mayan ruins at Tulum, a visit to Playa Pariaso and snorkeling in the cenotes arraged by Lomas travel which is onsite.
This was our first experience at an all inclusive and we were very impressed. The food was amazing and the service was very good. We enjoyed relaxing at the swim up bars, or in one of the many poolside and beachside cabanas. We stayed in a jacuzzi ocean front suite, which faces the ocean, but there were palm trees and the lawn, sidewalks and cabanas between the building and the ocean. We were close to most of the restaurants and the main two pools, but could also easily walk to their sister resort called Casitas where it was less crowded and enjoy the beach there. There is a salt water pool on the beach that is neat, and our favorite restaurants were Kampai and La Isla. Both Italian restaurants were also very good and we enjoyed amazing 5 course gourmet meals there. There is a dress code for dinner, which made it a nice experience. We also went to a tequila tasting that they offered which was interesting and fun. They offered lots of activities during the day (bike tours, yoga class, etc) and nightly entertainment. Really something for everyone, or you can choose to just relax! Be sure to arrange your transportation ahead of time to and from the airport, we used Lomas Travel, they are onsite at the hotel.

Too big, a lot of walking

Pros: The landscape is beautiful
Cons: Food
Location: The beach is nice and clean
The property is huge and its difficult to get around. They are golf carts available but not at all times. The restaurants have long waits in the evening and cannot accommodate large groups. One particular day we visited la isla for lunch. We sat for about 10 minutes and were not acknowledged we ended up leaving. We've visited smaller resorts and had wonderful service. We really enjoyed staying at secrets Capri. They had wonderful customer service.

El Dorado Royale Resort Stay

Pros: Everything. The grounds were well kept. The hotel was very clean. Staff always greeted you with a smile. Food was very good. And last but not lea
Cons: They just need to keep up what they are currently doing.
We have been to many resorts in the Caribbean Islands, but this resort has been the best overall experience we have had. The detail service they provide to their guests is top notch. The entire staff was "Excelente" in their own words. This has been one of the most memorable experiences we have had. Our plan is to return next year.

Pros: Upscale, romantic and very clean
Cons: Having to leave
This resort is clean and breathtaking! The service is outstanding and everyone is so friendly and accommodating. The food is great and we enjoyed the smaller portions, allowing us to try different dishes. The beach was very clean, the pools were awesome and its simply a relaxing place.

Pros: Beautiful hotel grounds. Very clean and the food at all of the hotels is amazing.
Cons: Could not swim in the ocean but the beach was beautiful. The entertainment was also lacking.
We had a great experience at this hotel. The staff was great and very accommodating and the hotel grounds were very clean and beautiful. The rooms were very comfortable and were always clean. The food at all of the restaurants was amazing as well. The only thing they need to work on is the entertainment. The same music plays all the time and the evening entertainment could have been better. Also, the ocean is not ideal to swim in due to all of the coral reefs so we stuck with the pools. Other than that we give the Hotel 4 out of 5 stars.

Good Hotel, but not great.

Pros: Decor!
Cons: Sales tactics!
Location: Beautiful!
Overall-we had a nice stay at this hotel. However, I would not say this is a 4 1/2 star hotel. I have stayed at the Grand Velas and the Fairmont Mayakoba which are also in the Riviera Maya and they are both far superior to this hotel. The positives were excellent food, polite servers, fun shows and bands in evening, beautiful decor, and tips were not expected but the servers were absolutely thrilled if you gave them one or two dollars when ordering around of drinks. The negatives were slow service at restaurants, lines and long wait times to get into restaurants, lack of pool seating (we were there for a week-and were never able to get a seat by the pool even though we were there by 9 am), and most of all the "salesy atmosphere". They asked us many diffrent times if we would go look at other areas of the resort for our next stay..it would "only" take 1 1/2 hours..it was really irritating by the 3rd day. Also, they ask u to purchase spa services and massages every 5 min...not relaxing.
