Id stay again!

Posted Feb 21, 2014
If you just want a comfortable place to veg out between shopping, beach time, and sampling a variety of cuisine, this hotel is good. Location was perfect for us, block fron the most beautiful beach and the plaza. 5th ave literally out your door and 30 steps. This is the quieter side of town away from loud nightclubs but only a block to great bars and eats. Beds are super HARD and not comfy. We took air mattress knowing this from last trip! Overall... Super nice staff. Very helpful. Rooms clean but basic. We asked for a balcony on our second day and moved to o room with one on the third day.. No xtra charge. Asked for a small fridge on the 4th day... Had one next day. No xtra charge. Air cond worked great too.

Authentic Mexican Hotel right off 5th Avenue

Posted Feb 18, 2014
Pros: We loved the location. Just a block off of 5th avenue and 2 blocks from the beach. Everything was right where we wanted it.
Cons: The pool area will be improved once the restaurant is completed. Not a family friendly place to stay but great if you want a real Mexican experience
Location: Perfect location in the center of Playa. Close to the Plaza, the ferry, the beach and of course 5th Avenue. Each day and night was a new adventure.
Our stay at the Hacienda del Caribe started off badly with a room that I don't think was intended to be used. We got there on a Tuesday and literally got the last room in the hotel. It was right by the pool and front desk, very small and we were greeted by the noise of construction from the restaurant next door and the night security guard on his phone all night. We were very close to calling Expedia and asking for a different place to stay. The next day we were moved to a fabulous room on the third floor and the rest of our stay was fantastic, The new room was beautiful and very large with an amazing cupula in the ceiling that had stained glass and let the morning light slowly enter each day. The staff was helpful whenever we needed them which was seldom. The pool and the area around it are still a work in progress. The pictures we saw made it seem like there was a snack bar and place to get drinks around the pool but that wasn't the case. I think when the restaurant is finished that area will be much more useable.

safety deposit box issues

Posted Feb 6, 2014
Pros: Size of room and colorful paint.
Cons: see above notes
Location: Beach is just a stone's throw away.
The hotel needs to educate the customers--there is a system for the room safe, which does work just fine. But staff were unable to tell us the order in which to proceed, causing inconvenience. I would suggest that they post a sign, simple, by the safe, saying 1, 2, 3 order in which to put in numbers and which dial to turn, and so on. It would have saved a lot of running up and down the stairs. The bench in the room was smudgy dirty. The room was big and pretty.

Very cheap for the location. Passably clean.

Posted Jan 14, 2014
Pros: Great location, cheap. Pretty friendly staff with (at reception) mostly good English.
Cons: Only hot water in the mornings, and only after 5-10 minutes.
Location: Right by the bus station and 5th Avenue. Pretty much everything you can do it Playa is right there.
We stayed there 5 nights. It's thankfully not too much of a party hotel, despite the very central location. The cleaners aren't exactly perfectionists, but it's passable for the price. I wonder how often the sheets are changed. Reception was very friendly, with enough English to answer any question we had. Beds were awesomely firm. You only get one key for the double rooms, but you can leave it at reception. A night watchman has to let you in and falls asleep a lot, but he's near enough that you can wake him up to open the gate. Nothing about it is very clean but it was so cheap for us it's hard to complain. Other guests were a mix of all ages.

Clean hotel, Friendly staff.

Location: 1/2 block from 5th avenue; 2 blocks from the beach; around the corner from the ADO bus station
My husband and I needed a room for a few nights before we checked in at our timeshare. When we arrived they could not find our expedia reservation, but they got us checked in, and were able to solve the issue the next day. This is a basic, no frills hotel. It was very clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had a king size bed on the second floor towards the back of the building. It was quiet and restful. The window looked out into the interior courtyard of the hotel. Some of the towels had been well used. It was very rainy one night and we stayed in and watched tv. There were a few english speaking channels. The internet worked best down in the lobby by the front desk--no connection in our room- but I spend very little time on line while on vacation. I liked the feel of the hotel--- brightly painted walls, live hanging plants, sitting spaces in the interior courtyard, and a security guard on duty in the evenings. The pool is small but we are beach people so that is not an important feature for us. We were able to leave our luggage at the front desk the day we checked out and came back and retrieved it that evening. We would definitely stay here again - the price was right and it is in a convenient location.

Cute rustic hotel

I would probably stay here again due to its location but we did have problems with checking in... They did not have our reservation. They wanted to charge us full price but after many phone calls they honoured the price on my voucher. During all of this the front desk man was very polite.

Like sleeping on a boxspring

Posted Nov 14, 2013
Pros: It was cute- from a distance
Cons: The beds and the lack of hot water.
Location: I chose it because it was close to the ferry to CZM
Cute little hotel. Clean enough. No hot water. Bed was wire with a sheet over it. It hurt to sleep on it. Did not take credit card upon arrival and unable to give change for my cash. Avoid this place!

So So Very Disappointed.....could be such a jewel!

This is such a beautiful hotel with its Mexican architecture and is a great location. Also the booking price was great value. We were so excited about staying here because the pictures we so beautiful, unfortunately from the time I booked until I arrived there, there was some management issues. That is was we were told when we checked it. The Restaurant and bar closed. There was a for sale sign in the window of the restaurant. The front desk was cash only... No Credit cards accepted because of the Management issue. I assume until "things" are worked out. So we stayed only 1 night payed cash and then left. We had a 5 day reservation. So disappointed because this is a beautiful boutique hotel and we were looking so forward to staying there. So beware if your are booking this hotel!! All you get is a room with slow maid service. Nothing else and bring cash!!! If you want to stay here.

Over charged price setting.

Reserved 3 nights in a 2 double-bed room for a 2-kid family. Reached the site around 1:30 PM. The front woman never let us in until 3:00 PM sharp even she knew only few rooms were occupied. Fine. We came back at 3:00 PM and got a dark, small room on the first floor. Complained of a total mismatch with our reservation description to another women, waited for half an hour, to finally move in another a bit spacious room on the second floor. This experience gave me a bad impression of this hotel. Colonial structure looks good but pool is joke (“dog bath” reported by other is right). Water is not clean. Close to beach and tourist spot is only plus, but we were not interested in over-charged shopping/eating around the 5th avenue. The property is not distinct overall. The room price is higher (perhaps 20% more), not competitive, compared to other better-looking properties. We walked around the town, hunted down much affordable two-room apartment with kitchen near the Walmart, and stayed another week peacefully. Definitely never come back this hotel.

Centrally located

Posted Aug 2, 2013
Pros: Location. It has a little pool and area where you can sit outside.
Cons: If you have a stroller, like we did - it is a bit hard to carry it up and down the stairs. This is reall not a negative... just a fact :)
Location: 5th ave is nearby.
Great value hotel. Located centrally. NIce toiletries.
