Great hotel

Great hotel, nice pools. Staff is extremely nice. Food is good although lacks variety a bit. After 6 days it gets tiring. Gorgeous resort. Wish the beach was good but its very rocky and sea weed makes it impossible to get into. If you don't care for beach, then it should be fine.

First time at an All Inclusive

Pros: We liked the Jr. Suites, plenty of room if you book separate rooms for the older kids. The hotel property was very well maintained.
Cons: Food could be slightly better, fish didn't seem fresh. Some things were overcooked. Buffets were fine.
Location: Stores are on property but go to Playa Del Carmen's 5th Ave. for souvenirs ($30 cab one way). We went on several excursions, which was great.
This was our first time at an All Inclusive and we were very pleased. We picked the Iberostar Maya for two reasons, first was the good overall ratings and 2nd was a tip that booking the Maya allows you full access to 4 of the 5 properties (not the Grand Paraiso - adults only). Some tips: - Check in: It was pretty easy, we recommend booking all of the dinners at that time. That way you don't have to worry about a restaurant being booked during the week. Also, we were advised not to go to the "free" presentation for time shares, which was great advice (it kills a couple of hours). - Restaurants: Dinners were very good, not great. We liked the Japanese Restaurant and the Mexican Restaurant. We really enjoyed the breakfast and lunch buffets, especially at the Mexican Restaurant. Hint: If you're going on early tours, the front breakfast buffet was open at 6:30 AM. - Older Children: We took our 20 year old daughter and 17 year old son and they had plenty to do. Our daughter enjoyed relaxing at the beach and pools and the beverages. Our 17 year old son took advantage of the activities, played volleyball, water polo, water basketball, and just had fun. - Money: There is a no tip policy but we tipped some of our servers and the maids. Had great service as a result. The cash machines charge a lot of fees, so bring cash if you want to go on tours or shop. - Rooms: The Jr. Suites are plenty big for 2-4 persons. We booked 2 rooms because we had older kids.

Lovely facilities.

Fourth time staying at an Iberostar property, first time in Mexico. grounds and resort facilities were beautiful. Food was for the most part "average". Beach was perfect, just plan to get down there early if you want shade. Only downfall was that resort was so large, was quite a walk to whatever you were wanting and there are no ocean view rooms at all.

Pros: Very Clean, orderly, organized.
Cons: Perhaps speed up the check-in if possible.
Location: Near day long excursions such as Explor (awesome but not for eld) and Ciudad Playa del Carmen for evening walk in the pedestrian friendly 5th Avenue.
Six day stay. Food was good. Beverages were good. Beach is great with beautiful sand and good waves to have fun. Some seaweed...but it is the sea. Great pool area. Very friendly, bi-lingual, and accomodating staff. The facility is LARGE. You will walk a lot, or, you will wait 5 to 10 minutes for a cart to pick you up and deliver you to restaurants, gym, etc. If you walk, the area is beautuful. A multi-lingual concierge at each building is very helpful. Fun entertainment IF you want. Comfortable beach to lay under a grass hut and read etc. Very nice all-inclusive resort. Great for families with all ages. We'll look at this resort first when we plan our next trip. Well Done folks!

IB Maya

Property is large, but you get the hang of it after a day or so. The maps stink! Food is decent. Breakfast is quite good with lots of options. If you need some thing, just ask. They want to keep you happy. Chairs at the beach go fast! I was there at 6:30 to save a spot. Don't use your towel to save a spot. I saw one couple that had their towels disappear--you pay for it! Cheap books, water shoes, magazines....that will save a spot for you. Ice cream at the pool is awesome :) Rooms are quite large with comfy beds and two ceiling fans! Two! Fridge refilled daily & self serve drinks available at the beach. Sea was rough when I was there, but the breeze was great & plenty of pools, if you need a quick dip.

Hot Resturants. No, not the food, the temperature

Pros: Very pretty and well maintained. Friendly and accommodating staff.
Cons: I've already commented extensively on the resturant temperature. The entertainment is good not great.
Location: Location is fine. Close to Playa del Carmen if one like to get a break from the complex for an afternoon.
Overall, it had a wonderful time at this resort. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The room I had was very spacious and clean with adequate amenities. The complaint that I do have is with the temperature level that was maintained in the restaurants. This was the case in the themed restaurants as well as the buffet restaurants. SIMPLY TO HOT AND VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. While dining at the Mexican themed restaurant at the Maya, there were a number of families and couples that simply got up and left. The temperature had to be at least 80 degrees fahrenheit. it seemed that the majority of the time the restaurants were not very busy at all. That makes my complaint all the more puzzling. Less people, generally the cooler it should be. This was simply not the case. Maybe because the complex had less guests than normal and that could be attributable to the time of year I was there, the hotel management was trying to economize on the A/C.

Pros: Incredible property. It is big, but we enjoy that.
We love this Iberostar property. The pools are amazing. Plenty options to eat (you won't love everything). Really just an incredible experience.

Amazing resort. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Beautiful resort with amazing pools, food and staff. The beach had a lot of algae but other than that, the beach was lovely too! Very clean.

Great Hotel !

Pros: Everything was awesome and the food is excellent with plenty of choices for the specialty restaurants.
Cons: Nothing !
Location: The location is about 18 miles away from airport and Play Del Carmen is a short cab ride away.
The Iberostar chain is top notch with great service from beginning to end. There are plenty of things that you can do off site with tours but if looking to relax, play golf or do a little shopping it is right there in walking or golf cart distance. The pools are huge and there are many choices like a wave , relaxing or pool bar . Also, the beach is close with drink service available on the beach and food at the beach bar . As for the rooms they are great size with plenty of room with a hammock outside on the patio in every room.

Authentic Mayan experience

This was our second time to this hotel in 8 years and it keeps looking impressive. Congrats to iberostar for keeping this hotel looking like new, for their excellent employees that make you feel like a king during your stay. Food and drinks were excellent, can't wait to go back.
