Gorgeous beach some drawbacks

The resort is beautiful for the most part, but a tad bit large for my family. Tough to navigate through paths which weren't easy to follow. We love to walk but we felt like we spent half our time walking. Rooms were fine, but our beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. The first time we visited four years ago, our room faced the pool. Unfortunately, this year we faced an up kept area of trees and shrubs on a dirt path. That was not what we expected. Food was average. All in all a decent trip!

Thank you for giving us the opportunity of being your hosts during your recent vacation and for taking the time to write your review. Please receive an apology if you had any inconvenience with the layout of our resort. Some guests love the long walk around our beautiful grounds and other guests prefer to take a ride. We have a train going back and forth and we also have golf carts with our bell boys. We are happy to tell you that we have just bought new golf carts for our guests comfort. You can also pre-program a ride with the Concierge and wait comfortably in your room until it arrives. We are also sorry if your accommodations did not meet your expectations; we do our best in order to honor our guests room requests but unfortunately is not always possible due to lack of availability. Likewise,we regret to hear about your discomfort with our beds. We have toppers to soften the bed, and we have also the option of leaving extra pillows and extra blankets in the rooms upon the guests' request. Also, after evaluating our guests' comments, our Housekeeping Department will place a new model of mattresses when the current ones need replacing. These will be softer and will have a pillow top. Thank you for your loyalty to our brand; we hope you give us another opportunity in the future to change your point of view and give you the excellent service that you and your family deserve. Pros: Buildings kept beautifully, layout is nice, many activities for kids, service was friendly
Cons: Hot tubs cold and never worked, Served my table coffee and water myself more than once, room service was inconsistent, no towel cards, needed training
Location: beach
While the service was always met with a smile there was a developmental need with training. Checking in took hours. It did meet my needs for my kids to go and explore. They need all day restaurants ( whether just a hamburger shop) and more than one swim up bar. Hot tubs never worked.

Good hotel . have to walk to the beach , a lot activity on the pool . food not good at the buffet , ok at the restaurant but remember to make reservation .staff are friendly .

A Cruise on Land

The resort was fantastic! Had something going on all day, every day, and for all ages. Staff was really friendly and courteous, always acknowledging you and saying "Buenos dias"! Food was delicious, drinks were done right, and the room was cleaned/restocked multiple times per day (not by our request either, they just clean and then double check if you need anything later). Check out the ruins if you're in the area, very cool, BUT be prepared to use up 1 WHOLE DAY on those excursions - the driving alone takes up a good portion of your time. I would, and most likely will stay at this resort again. See you soon Stars!

A WONDERFUL VACATION - FRIENDS & ADULT CHILDREN

Pros: Everything was wonderful. The food is great; esp. the Steak House & the Japanese Restaurant. The rooms beautiful & clean; the waitstaff GREAT!!
Cons: The drinks are definitely "watered down". They taste VERY good, but stick to beer & wine if alcohol is what you are looking for.
EVERYTHING Expedia had control of went VERY well. We hit a few snafus but that was not the fault of Expedia or Iberostar. We, as a group, had some issues with American Airlines but those cannot be controlled by either Expedia or the resort. My daughter and I had stayed at Paraiso Maya four years ago and we were very pleased then with the entire experience. This time our large group (of 12) found the amenities of the hotel and the helpfulness of not only them but also the transportation company (Best Day) very satisfactory. We might not stay at that exact resort again just to have a different experience, but we would definitely look into Iberostar properties first.

Nice pool and beach

Great time!! Hotel staff was great. Food was good but ensure you make reservations early to be able to eat at a resturant that you want.

Slightly Disapointed

Pros: The beach and the animals were the only things we would return for.
Cons: The food needs improvement. The beds in the rooms need pillow tops. Update the rooms. Keep occupancy to numbers you can manage.
Location: They do have shuttles that drop you in playa del Carmen for some shopping and the resort does have quite a few animals you can walk around and see.
Please keep in mind while reading this review that I am comparing this to our other experiences with Iberostar Resorts. Room- Our room had several items that where broken. Sink stopper, light switch covers, and light bulbs where out. The beds where hard. I mean very hard! I normally don't care to much about that but it was to a point we did loose sleep. Air conditioner was shutting off at night. We where told this is because it was on a motion switch. The rooms defiantly do need renovation. It was cleaned every day but not a deep clean. ( swept, towels changed etc. ) The bath tub was peeling and nasty. Overall the room was tolerable minus the beds. Beach- The beach was Beautiful. The waves where to rough for us to go in two of the five days we where there. But the other three days we enjoyed it very much. If you like to pick up sea shells you will be out of luck. Pools- We didn't spend a lot of time in the pool but what little time we did spend we enjoyed it. They did not have the games they normally do or festivities until the last two days we where there. We where told this was because they were at max capacity and could not provide them. Food- The food WOW. It was bad. I have never had food like this served at any other Iberostar. I am not a picky eater. All the sit down reservations we had minus the Brazilian Steakhouse that was on the resort next door where terrible. By the last two days if it was not fresh fruit or vegetables we where avoiding it.

We are sorry you found the beds to be too firm. We have mattress toppers available for guests who prefer softer beds, which you may request at the front desk or with the concierge in your building. He makes an effort to offer varied menus to appeal to our international customers, and he is always open to receive suggestions. Fabulous resort

Pros: EXCELLENT STAFF; variety, quality and presentation of the food; shows with music and dancing very good; beautiful, immaculately kept property.
Cons: A problem caused by guests-lounge chairs at the pool were not to be saved, but unless you had your towel on a chair by 8am, at best you sat in the sun
Location: The resort provides very reasonably priced transportation in very comfortable vans to the shopping district in Playa Del Carmen - enjoyable trip.
From the time we arrived, we were impressed by every aspect of the resort. The staff could have not have been more friendly and attentive to our needs. There was a concierge on the ground floor of each building. When we arrived, our room A/C was not working. We spoke to the concierge, Karla, and she contacted maintenance. In less than an hour, it was running fine and did so throughout our stay. We enjoy animals and loved seeing the wildlife on the property: Coati`, Iguanas and peacocks roamed about freely. During our stay, a few times an Iguana walked through our lounge chair area around the pool and we watched a peacock stroll right through the shopping area at the Lindo lobby. And there were also swans, macaws and other exotic birds. We enjoyed both the beach and the pool. There was plenty of sandy beach (much more than another resort we stayed at in Playa Del Carmen previously) and plenty of coral free water to enjoy. Throughout our stay the staff was just great. There upbeat attitude and friendliness was a big plus. The food was very good. We were able to make three reservations for dinner at the a la carte restaurants by email before we arrived and were able to get reservations at specialty restaurants every night of our stay. We were glad we paid the extra to stay at the Maya over the Lindo. We wanted to stay on an upper floor used the elevator (not in Lindo) often. Was more variety in the buffet food with the dining upscale all with A/C.
