Perfect for a family get-togetherPosted Mar 9, 2014
Pros: Varied food and drink choices, shaded paths and animals, clean beach and long beach walking access in both directions, competent, friendly staff.
Cons: The peacocks are beautiful and interesting but too noisy for light sleepers. Stock more beach umbrellas! They ran out early every morning.
Location: There are many options, but we didn't get bored with the beach. Playa del Carmen is conveniently nearby, but beware of deceptive pricing and rip-offs.
Our family of mostly single adults gathered to celebrate a birthday, and this was an excellent choice for the time of year. The weather was perfect, and we enjoyed the varied and delicious food, both at the buffets and in the a la carte restaurants. We spent most of our time on the gorgeous beach, but the pool was also outstanding. Different family members enjoyed different activities. There was always something going on, but planned activities were not overly noisy or disruptive for those who just wanted to relax.

Worst hotel for vacationsPosted Jan 1, 2014
The room doesn't look like hotel, they look like motels and the smell is bad. The view is bad, we could see only trees, we couldn't see sea or pools. The foods are worst conditions. It was all inclusive, but the dinner reservation was limited. We could take 4 reservations of restaurants per 10days. All foods looks like junk foods.

Jungle to beachPosted Dec 28, 2013
We love this place! Jungle critters, beautiful beach, and great staff! The food is above average at the buffets and theme restaurants. Relax or play, either is excellent here. After staying here twice now we know it's not a fluke.

Such a beautiful hotel on the beachPosted Dec 21, 2013
Pros: It's a very unique experience, having secluded buildings and feeling like you are in the jungle with animals running around everywhere.
Cons: I have no complaints about this resort, it was perfect!
Location: It is right on the beach and they have a huge pool in the middle of the resort. Walking distance to a little shopping area in town.
This is our second time to stay at this resort, the first time was on our honeymoon 5 years ago and absolutely fell in love with the place so we decided to go back to celebrate our anniversary. We were worried we wouldn't be able to recapture such beautiful memories or that the place may not be as nice since it has been so long but we were very wrong! We got to re-live some beautiful experiences and also make some new wonderful memories, the vacation was absolutely perfect, every single person from the hotel staff that we encountered was very friendly and you can't beat the uniqueness of the rooms, there are smaller individual buildings scattered throughout the resort versus staying in one big building with a thousand other people, you definitely feel more secluded in a jungle atmosphere (with monkeys and peacocks running around everywhere!). Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you are planning a trip to Mexico!

Great value and experience, food - not so muchPosted Dec 19, 2013
Pros: overall facilities are very well designed and maintained. Entertainment was diverse and lots of fun for adults and kids. Staff is very friendly.
Cons: Variety of the and quality of the food.
The overall experience was very satisfying, but I wouldn't come back without knowing that they worked out overall food variety. Everything, except food was great. Food variety and quality was very average. The jungle, activity, staff, entertainment, beach, and many other things are simply great. Food was the only disappointing thing about our experience at Quetzal. It seemed like the menu was almost identical from meal to meal with slight additions.

Best tropical vacation ever!Posted Dec 14, 2013
Everything about the Iberostar Queztal was amazing. Huge rooms, soft beds, great showers, very clean, air conditioning worked very well. the grounds were amazing. The hotel was built in a natural jungle with wild animals roaming free all around the grounds. The beach was simply beautiful and the servers who provide drinks were hard working and amazingly polite. the thing that made the hotel better than any other was the service staff. I would like to mention some of those staff members who provided us amazing service. Firstly, Ramiro from the morning buffet. Ramiro was very polite, very efficient, and by the second day he knew my eating habitsand I never had to ask for a single item again. Thank You Ramiro Next I'd like to mention Rosy at the lobby bar. Rosy was super friendly, very efficient, and treated us like royalty. Thank You Rosie. Of course I have to mention the star friends. Mauricio, Andres, Angie, Adriana, Carlos, all helped make our vacation magical and hosted the most amazing activities and shows. They are amazing at what they do and provided my wife and I the best guest service I have ever experienced. Food was great everywhere. Buffets were huge and had so much selections to choose from. A la carte restos were all great as well

Great hotelPosted Dec 12, 2013
The hotel isn't so big that you get lost in it. We stayed in building 25, which is pretty much in the middle of the main part of the hotel with restaurants and the beach/pool. If you are looking to see the monkeys stay on the 3rd floor jungle side. Overall the resort is great from the excellent staff to the activities, pool, beach and variety of food. If you want to go into town it is about a five minute drive.

Nice Hotel, diverse visitors, ok food.Posted Dec 11, 2013
Pros: Beach, service, rooms.
Cons: Food must be improved.
Location: There are a lot of local tours (many many different kinds) and shopping avenues close to the hotel. Taxi to the main pier and shopping district is U$5
Nice hotel in general. Diverse visitors, staff is friendly and nice. Rooms are nice as well, have good A/C and are distributed in a 200-250 meter range from lobby to beach front. I would say that the downside to the hotel is the food. Not only is the buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner) average, but also the thematic restaurants are very poor in variety and do not offer a subtantial difference in quality versus the buffet meals.

Pros: Proximity to beach, pool options, & jungle paths
Cons: While there were many food options the cheese sauce, salad dressings and soups could have thicker consistency and the shows at night could be better.
Hotel was a distance from the airport but once there was very nice. Layout was good, plenty of dining options, beach was wonderful.
