Lush tropical hotel settingPosted Nov 27, 2013
Pros: The open, sunny, breezy design, the friendly, helpful staff. It was VERY secure with checkpoints to get into the area and security on the beach.
Cons: A little direction finding the snorkeling, windsurfing, etc. No one ever seemed to know about these included activities.
Location: The Iberostar Quetzel is in Riviera Maya and about an hour from the Cancun airport in a very secure, guarded area. The beach & pool are beautiful.
We stayed a week at the Iberostar Quetzel all-inclusive resort where there is a rain-forest setting complete with tropical trees, waterfalls and co-existing animals. Everything was open and cooled by the ocean breeze - but the rooms and restaurants were air-conditioned. It was lovely! Though I generally don't like buffet food and am not a huge fan of Mexican food, I have to admit the food was excellent -- except for the desserts which were little works of art but not very tasty to my palate. The drinks were free-flowing, but I did not ever see anyone inebriated. There is a resident entertainment troupe who put on The Big Show nightly and they are very talented! You'll love the show. Don't miss Mauricio! All the staff from desk clerks to servers to bell boys were very, very nice and it was a real treat to mingle with people from all over the world. The beach was beautiful, the sand cool and silky, shady thatched huts and turquoise water. Best of all was the guardian chicken at the towel booth. I would definitely go back to this resort. I wish I could live there!

Fantastic Stay!Posted Nov 26, 2013
My Husband and I traveled with his brother and wife. We absolutely loved the hotel. We had one minor upset upon arrival; the hotel informed us that one of our rooms would not come with a single king size bed as requested. My poor sister in law got stuck in room with the double bed. It may not seem like a big deal but it was an immediate disappointment. The hotel did not seem at capacity but the front desk was unable to accommodate a room change. However, even with that hiccup I can still say that this is a wonderful resort. We had a very nice time. Its is a very ralaxed and casual atmosphere. The food was delicious, the drinks were good, hotel staff is very nice, the hotel grounds are beautiful and well kept, and beach area is the cleanest and well-kept in the area. Take a walk on the beach and you will see what I mean. The other beach areas dedicated to other resorts nearby are not as clean and definitely not as lively. The beds are a little hard, but I still slept very well. It was nice to wake up to the natural sounds of the local birds and monkeys in the trees. The monkeys are little loud but I didn’t mind. It was definitely and experience to have all that wildlife right outside your balcony. I would return again in a heartbeat. Just confirm and reconfirm your room selection.

What a beautiful Week to Take a Vacation to MexicoPosted Nov 26, 2013
Pros: Hotel was designed within a jungle atmosphere and provided for an enjoyable stay. Hotel staff was top of the line and made the stay rememorable
Cons: Can not think of any improvements!
Location: Highly recommend taking excursions to the ruines (Tulum, Coba, ect.) and adults and kids would love XEL-Ha (pronounced Shell-ha, google it please)
November seems to be a beautiful week for vacations. Just got back from Playa Car Mexico from a absolutely overwhelming stay at Iberostar Quetzal and Tucan. The facility is located within a gated resort area that includes approximatly 10 other hotels and is safe for adults and children. The beaches are beautiful!! Cannot stop bragging about the quality of this resort. Arrived on a Friday for a 7 night stay (Friday to Friday was cheapest if you are shopping for dates). Was a little rainy when we first arrived but cleared out for the remainder of the week. Pools are immaculant, the jungle atmosphere is breathtaking and the staff and accomodations outstanding. The resort was did not seem to be completly full as we first belived and there was plenty to do each and every day. Highly recommend taking excursions to the ruines (Tulum, Coba, ect.) and adults and kids would love XEL-Ha (pronounced Shell-ha, google it please) This place is outstanding in every way. Snorkling, lazy river, biking, zip lining, food, drink, adventure, overall enjoyment. There are other parks like it but this seems to be the best one. For one price you have all inclusive access to the gear, food, drink, lockers, showers, ect at NO additional cost.

“Wonderful Vacation...except....”Posted Nov 25, 2013
Pros: The property with all it's different flora & fauna.
Cons: The slight mildew smell in the room, think I was from the pillow's.
Location: Very close proximity to downtown Playa Del Carmen.
The hotel property is just beautiful. The flora & fauna magnificent. Beautiful beach & water. Service by all the hotel employees was wonderful. Star Friends are the bomb, made everyday fun. Shows at night were very lively & fun filled, some good talent. Food in all the restaurants visited was very good. My only gripe with the hotel was the PRICE of optional bottles of red wine. The markup is outrageous, over FIVE times the retail price. I ordered a few bottles of a Rioja - Marques de Caceres Crianza 2009 which came to 52.50 a bottle in US dollars when I checked out. The bottle costs 10.95 retail in US dollars. WOW. Caveat emptor (buyer beware) which I did not heed because I was caught up in the moment. So needless say, be cautious with the wine list. Have a manager give you the US dollar price. Only other complaint was with Olympus Tours for shuttle service. Getting there was no problem, BUT the system for returning was very agitating. They make you contact a rep for the return, not once but twice, only to have the return trip fouled up. (They are looking to sell day tours) We had to take a cramped taxi to the airport with other guests, they did pay the fee though. When we arrived at the airport an Olympus rep was there only to delay us more for no reason, very annoying. I would suggest using another shuttle service that only does shuttling.

Great all-inclusive resortPosted Nov 18, 2013
Pros: The staff
Cons: More nightlife
Location: Visit 5th Avenue in downtown Playa del Carmen
It was a very pleasing vacation. The staff were all fantastic and work hard to make sure you are enjoying your trip. The food was good and the drinks were a plenty! If you are looking for a relaxing vacation stay in Playacar, if you want a spring break vacation stay in Cancun.

A little bit of Paradise directly on the beach.Posted Nov 18, 2013
Pros: Easy going and almost everything is pre-paid except special sports such as SCUBA diving and tours.
Cons: Free or better priced WiFi. It was a fixed price per day but that works out very expensive if you just want a few minutes to collect emails etc.
Location: Playacar is a bustling town with all the usual facilities. It is also the ferry port for trips to the isle of Cozumel (12m offshore).
This is the 4th time my wife have been to this hotel as it offers all we want. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is excellent.

Excellent, not your average hotel!Posted Nov 17, 2013
Pros: Did not have to walk too far to get to any of the many restaurants, the beach is right next to the pools, and very importantly; the bars were close by
Location: Just a short cab ride to downtown Playa and ferry to Cozumel. Local shops were not the best, but enough of a selection for me. Playa shopping great!
Perfect location, very good amenities, staff were the friendliest I have ever met.
