Great hotel on the beach!

Posted Apr 23, 2015
we had a great time! The hotel has a jungle with monkeys, peacocks, iguanas, etc. the animals woke us up at 6 every morning but if you prefer to not be near the jungle ask for the room furthest away. The beach was beautiful! The food was good. The entertainment staff was amazing. They put on a different show every night and during the day there were tons of activities! I loved the Aqua Gym. My husband and I even got pulled on stage a couple times before shows to play silly games. I give the entertainment staff 5 stars! They really made our trip fun and they were so nice and funny. We loved every minute of our stay at Iberostar and already are talking about when we can go back!!!!

Too loud and rowdy for me

Posted Apr 23, 2015
Have stayed in other Iberostar resorts many times over the years and pulled away from them as the facilities expanded and grew more like small towns than resorts. When my daughter was young, Iberostar Paraiso del Mar was perfect in every way. But as she matured, we sought more adult venues. This year we had a foreign exchange student staying with us who was under 18, so I decided to try the Tucan. The grounds are absolutely lovely and almost worth staying there for that reason alone. I appreciate the jungle atmosphere vs. contrived, albeit pretty, gardens that most resorts have. We liked the food and drinks and cannot complain about those elements. What turned me off was the constant music by the pool that was so loud it carried far and wide. It was the thumping, electronic bass that drove me as far away as possible. The piped-in music for the poolside eateries was equally annoying. The staff yells into the already too-loud microphone for various activities. In short, this may appeal to a much younger set. I think it is good for families, but I won't return because of the noise level.

Beautiful hotel for nature lovers

Posted Apr 14, 2015
Pros: The grounds are a great mix of amenities and natural beauty....flora and fauna.
Cons: There is an admirable variety of food variety and the fruit is excellent, but some of the food lacked flavour as is often the case in Mexico.
Location: Roughly an hour from the airport but just a few minutes by taxi from XCaret and shopping in Playa Del Carmen.
Our stay was too short but we found the grounds to be well kept and chock full of tropical creatures most of which were free to roam around. The main pool was huge and well kept, and the noisy patrons at the swim up bar are thankfully separate in their own area. We had no health problems with the food or water and the fridge in the room was kept well stocked, although it could have been colder and there was no adjustment visible. Our chambermaid did a great job and left a towel folded in a different creature's shape each day. The in-room safe was big enough to fit my laptop without the carrying case, so that was a bonus. Wifi costs extra, but appears to be available all over the grounds and the signal was strong in our room.

No elevator

It was a beautiful hotel , excellent energy and personality from the activities team staff Great shows every night Food was great The few negatives : towel cards, you have to pay for wifi Only allowed minimal reservations in restaraunts Paying a lot of money to be told you can't eat at the restaraunts Sad we never got to eat at Italian or seafood place Had to beg and bribe with $$$$ to get into Mexican restaurant No elevators - try dragging 50 lb suitcases up and down 3 flights of stairs They robbed you for $70 for a taxi ride to airport when it only cost $34 from the airport to hotel

We appreciate the time and effort for writing this review about your recent stay. Your great evaluation regarding the grounds and the programs of the Entertainment department is very welcome. On the other hand, we regret the fact that we did not fully meet your expectations due to some points. We are sorry, that you had to drag your suitcases on your own. However it is our concern to inform you that our Bell Boys are always available in order to help our beloved guests to bring the luggage to your room or to pick them up on your check out day. In addition, we are sorry that you were not able to go to the Italian and Seafood restaurant. We would like to clarify that our guests, depending on the numbers of nights they stay, are able to make dinner reservations in advance and afterwards the reservations on the same day extra and according the availability without paying. We hope to have another opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Kind regards

Tucan Stay

Posted Apr 7, 2015
Pros: Best part for me was the Jungle area and all the animals.
Cons: I really missed the piano bar that we experience in most of these types of resorts, we be great if they added that..
Location: location was very safe, close enough to downtown but private enough to relax
We really enjoyed our stay at the Tucan, loved the jungle in the middle of the resort and all the wild life surounding the property, staff was very friend, food was good and rooms were clean. Only few things I would like to see change is the that the rooms are dark, not enough lights, bathroom door opens the wrong way giving you very littl room in the bathrooms and the door stopper in the middle of the bathroom ?? Found that very strange. Staff was very friendly, we often tipped but certainly didn't feel obligated to and service was wonderful either way.

Thank you for your kind comments and for choosing our resort. It is satisfying to read that you had a wonderful time at our beautiful jungle theme resort and that you enjoyed the excellent service of our staff. On the other hand, we appreciate you honest words regarding the rooms which seemed a little bit dark due to the tropical surrounding. Your suggestions regarding more lights and the door which did not open as it should be will be forwarded to the Maintenance Manager in order to avoid these situations in the future. We will be looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind regards,

Not too many ocean view rooms. Rooms were ok, they were clean. Some staff very friendly while others were not so. The Italian al la carte tried to get you in and out as fast as possible. hard to get a reservation. Japanese al la carte was awesome.

Where are we?!?

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: Go to the Japanese restaurant, use the swim-up bar, and make sure you check out the Star Friends shows; we couldn't believe the fun!
Location: Plaza Playacar was a wonderful little shopping experience, but walking into Playa del Carmen was worth it. Eat off the main street!
Iberostar could not have been more wonderful. The layout was fantastic with new things to see around every corner. When you are welcomed by each staff member you pass, are eating delicious and different foods, are swimming in warm blue ocean waters and fun shaped pools, and have a peacock use your terrace as his sleeping spot, you've got to wonder how you got so lucky as to have found this place.

Lovely setting

Pros: The pool area is good and the restaurant were very good, We enjoyed the Japanese Steak house very much.
Cons: Upgrade the rooms.
Location: A short taxi ride to Playa del Carmen where you can find a much shopping as you could possible want.
The property is very nice and interesting with the exotic animals. The rooms are a little "dated" and could use some upgrades. The lights in the bathroom need to be updated as it is almost impossible to put on make up.
