Older but clean facility in jungle setting

Posted Aug 21, 2014
Pros: Nobody at this hotel pushed us for any sort of time share. Thank you! Jaime in the lobby Tucan bar was really wonderful.
Cons: Perhaps some room upgrade/renovations. Also, the pool looked as if it could use a bit more cleaning toward the end of our stay.
Location: Go to Xplor Fuego! This is a must! Skip the day time crowds and try the zip lines, amphibious vehicle and refreshing cenote swim or paddle.
This is a nice facility for families. The rooms are clean and the grounds are well maintained. Most of the staff was really warm and friendly...especially the folks directing activities, particularly water polo and aerobics. The room did show a bit of age but was kept very clean. The restaurants on site are great...especially the Japanese and the Mexican. Peacocks roam the facility and you will hear howling monkeys off and on throughout the stay. Also present were iguana and a small guinea pig looking creature as well as a few tropical birds that enjoyed helping themselves to the buffet.

We would like to thank you for sharing your comments about your stay at our resort. We are grateful for kind words to our hard working staff, especially Jaime in the lobby bar and our Entertainment Team “Star Friends”. It is lovely to know that you had a pleasant stay and you enjoyed our Mexican and Japanese a la carte restaurants; our Chef will be excited to receive your gentle words. Regarding our rooms, please note that their style was created to integrate with the hotel's concept and decoration. However, we do believe that renovations and improvements can always be done. Your feedback has been sent to the Housekeeping Management. Concerning our pools, please rest assured that we are continuously enforcing all measures to offer safe and clean facilities; our pools are indeed cleaned daily with chemicals and the water is monitored. Once again, we thank you for your review and we wish to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon. Kind regards,

OK resort but very hot!

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: Maid service was awesome and the rooms were comfortable. Bartenders were also great. Beach is gorgeous.
Cons: The food definitely needs some improvement -- some variety. It was the same stuff every day. They could serve a little higher quality alcohol.
Location: We did not leave the resort. But FYI, if you go there, there is a Domino's that delivers.
We had a pleasant trip overall and the beach was very nice. The staff was great and very helpful, but it was so hot. The resort has very little air conditioning in public areas (eating areas). The only place you could get cool was in your room or in the ocean. The food in the main dining areas was not good and it was so hot in those areas that it made the food even less appealing. Hamburgers by the pool were decent but you get tired of eating hamburgers every day. They have some specialty restaurants but very limited availability. We were there for four nights and only allowed to make one reservation in a restaurant. Maybe they should offer a restaurant where you pay. Believe me, I would have been willing to pay for a few dinners just to have something decent to eat and we were only there for 4 days. Main lesson learned -- do not go in August. We did have an extremely good deal on this place so the other lesson learned was that you get what you pay for. I would not go back to this resort -- next time I would pay a little more for a higher quality experience.

We would like to thank for your comments and observations that always help us to improve the quality of our services. We appreciate your positive opinion about our nice and comfortable rooms as well as our hard working staff that are a motivation for many guests to return. Regarding the food, we would like to inform you that our Executive Chef and his team of cooks are continuously creating new dishes in order to vary the food selection and satisfy guests from all over the world. We are sorry to read that our buffet did not meet your expectations, we will keep working on that aspect. Additionally, we would like to add that our resort is designed with traditional Mexican architecture and it integrates with the natural grounds. Most areas are outdoors so they are equipped with ceiling fans. However, your remark about more air-conditioned facilities will be forwarded to the Management for their consideration. We are thankful for your honest words and we hope to welcome you back soon. Sincerely,

Perfect except entertainment

Posted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: everything
Cons: night time entertainment
Location: cenote diving, Akumal beach snorkel with sea turtles
I loved everything about this resort except the night time entertainment. It was cheesy. I have stayed at other resorts in Playa Del Carmen which had professional dancers and were wonderful. The Iberostar entertainment was like a Mexican channel game show that you would change the channel. The food, room, beach, staff, and resort was wonderful!!! This is my second time in this resort.

Tropical paradise

Posted Jul 26, 2014
We loved staying at the iberostar tucan. We are beach people and spent lots of time in the beautiful water and on the white sands. We loved seeing all the wildlife and the open air concept. The food in the speciality restaurants was wonderful but you can only get two reservations a week. The buffet was average. Breakfast was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There were bars everywhere that we frequented : ) We would definitely go back.

Beautiful and varied setting: beach, pool, jungle

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Setting: beautiful beach; large, warm pool; interesting wildlife: howler monkeys, coatimundi, peacocks, etc.
Cons: Pool hours should be expanded (7pm is too early to close). The food was good, but not exceptional.
Location: Akumal: snorkeling with sea turtles, rays and countless fish; Tulum Monkey Sanctuary; swimming in Cenotes;
This was our first trip to Mexico and our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 boys ages 12 and 8) enjoyed our trip immensely. The beaches were beautiful with crystal clear water and a soft white sand, great for making sand castles. Our boys enjoyed their time going from beach to pool and back again, along with frequent visits to the beach-side bar and ice cream stand.

First of all, we are much honored to have welcomed you and your family for your first time in Mexico. We appreciate your compliments in regard to our gorgeous beach and wide variety of wildlife. We are delighted to know that you and your family had a great time and enjoyed playing on our beach and at pool areas, as well as tasting our homemade ice cream stand. We would like to add that our pool closes because it goes through a very thorough cleaning process that takes a long time, and it is too aggressive for the skin. However, your suggestion will be delivered to Management. Once again, thank you for your review and hopefully, we will be able to host you and your family back. Kind regards,

Fantastic vacation experience!

Posted Jul 19, 2014
Pros: The rainforest setting, the activities, the food, the service, and the beach/pool were all great. We chose a standard room, but it was nice enough.
Cons: The bathroom door layout near the shower was a bit awkward. The bathroom size wasn't so bad, but it was difficult to fit more than one person.
Location: We loved being in a secluded, safe place, but still in walking distance to 5th avenue, and able to catch transportation to various places.
Our vacation at the Iberostar Tucan in Playa del Carmen exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect family getaway... from the accomodations to the non-stop activities, to the fantastic beach and pool. The meals and drinks were definitely "all inclusive", and we actually loved the buffet meals. The staff at the front desk was always helpful and pleasant, and all of the food service staff was also ready to serve and help with a smile. We felt very welcome at the Tucan and every question or need that we had was met. The rainforest setting also added something really special to the experience, and we loved the animal encounters. We have nothing but positive things to say about our vacation! This is a great place for families, couples, and singles to enjoy.

Disneyland for kids

Posted Jul 15, 2014
Pros: The resort has a jungle in the middle of it that has animals roaming freely such as monkeys, peacocks, flamingos, iguanas, turtles, etc.
Cons: To have people put on something to cover up by the pool lunch buffet. The last thing I want to see is a thong bikini or speedo by the salad bar.
Location: They really promote para sailing by the beach.
My husband and I travel to Mexico at least once a year and decided to try something different than we usually do. We usually stay at the adults only and much smaller resorts. After traveling to Iberostar Tucan, we will be going back to the adults only resorts. There were just way too many people everywhere. It seemed that there were hardly any couples at this resort and it was mostly families and large groups of people. I have never seen more blow up rafts in a pool on vacation. This resort is catered to children, period. The resort has over 1000 rooms that share five dinner restaurants. We booked for 5 nights and was told upon arrival that we would only be allowed dinner for 2 nights. The other nights we would have to eat at the buffet. After a few days, we finally managed to get a third dinner reservation. The food was good at the specialty restaurants, but the buffets had the same food every single day and got old fast. The rooms were clean, but small. Overall the resort wasn't awful, we just prefer a smaller place that you can relax and not have people everywhere.

First of all, we would like to thank you for sharing your perspective of our resort. We value your comments regarding our tropical atmosphere and wildlife at our grounds. Our resort is indeed family-oriented and has a lively atmosphere that is often enjoyed by couples and single travelers. Thank you for you kind words about our cuisine at the a la carte restaurants. We are sorry that the variety of our food offerings at the buffet was not up to your expectations. Your suggestion will be forwarded to our Executive Chef. We hope to have another opportunity to host you again here or at any IBEROSTAR Grand Collection (adults only) worldwide. Kind regards,

Room

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: The Steakhouse and views
Cons: The in-room mini fridge is only restocked every other day
Location: We did the parasailing trip twice that was sold out on the beach. Ask for Maya because they are the best. We did it twice.
There were 4 of us and we were very comfortable in the room. The best part was in the early mornings I sat outside on the patio and watched the monkeys playing in the trees right in front of me. Definitely, glad we didn't get a beach view or we would have missed them. The Steakhouse was the BEST! The tenderloin was huge and two of us could have shared it but it was also too tasty to share.

Great service and very friendly staff.

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Cons: Room comfort
Close to the beach with wonderful jungle paths. The staff was excellent. Great for families or couples. I would recommend building 11 or 12 for proximity to the pool, beach and snack bar.
