Tropical paradise

Posted Oct 27, 2014
Pros: Variety of restaurants, wildlife, jungle atmosphere, decent price
Cons: Wifi is expensive (about $40 USD/week), and limited to 1 device (protip: tether to your phone!). Food is hit and miss, though there's always good stuf
Location: Close to Xcaret and Tulum. Chichen Itza is more of a day trip.
Beautiful hotel. Wildlife everywhere. Nice pool and beach, decent activities and entertainment. Great atmosphere for both couples and families.

Definitely going back!!!!

Posted Oct 16, 2014
Pros: Hotel grounds are very well maintened
Cons: Front desk and Italian, Steak house and Tropical restaurants need a better variety, and better prepare they food.
Location: Close to Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Xel-Ha, Xcaret and only a short drive to Tulum and Coba.
Iberostar Tucan.. Excelente!!! We just got back from our two week vacation at the Iberostar Tucan, and we miss being there already. We have been to the Riviera Maya many times and this is by far our favorite hotel. Location is perfect, only 35 min from Cancun airport, Playacar is the best beach in Playa del Carmen, also not far from many places of interest like the ruins of Tulum and Koba, Akumal beach (swim with the turtles there!!), Xcaret and Xel-Ha and only five minutes cab ride away from Playa del Carmen where you can catch the ferry to Cozumel for a day trip. Back to the hotel, reception and front desk were ok, nothing extraordinary We were given a third floor room at building 14, that faces the jungle (perfect if you have kids and they would like to see the monkeys that come to the balcony every morning). It was really cool!! Room cleanliness was great!! Graciela was great and for the first time in many vacations our room didn’t smell like mold, she also made our son different towel animals every day, which we were always trying to guess what it was going to be on the way to the room (it became our little game). Grounds are really well maintained and workers are very polite. A La Carte restaurants were ok, Japanese and Mexican are the best with Italian, Tropical and Steakhouse falling behind with very limited options and poorly cooked dishes, and the reason why after trying all of the “a la carte” we decided to stick with the buffet for every meal. Beautiful hotel, excellent staff, great beach!

Posted Oct 16, 2014
Pros: The staff! Kiosks on the beach, wildlife, top shelf drinks at the lobby, control of AC in the room. Beach is gorgeous.
Cons: Air conditioning in the lobby and in the main buffet, people were miserable eating at times. There would be more people at the lobby if it were cooler
Location: We did jet skis and wanted to do scuba diving but unable because of the baby. Did xcaret the last time I was there but it's $120 per pp now.
Just came back from a week long stay with my parents, wife and 16 month old daughter. The weather was perfect, the hotel is what I expected for the money as was the food and drinks - not the best but not the worst either. You can reserve two restaurants prior to arriving (I called) and then reserve every other day you are there if there is space available and there always is. The Japanese was the best, the Italian was good as well. Didn't try the Mexican but heard it wasn't great from a few people. There are always plenty of lounge chairs both at the pool and at the beach, there are people who throw towels on some and never show up, especially in the better sections of the pool area. All in all it is a very good place to go with or without kids. The best part of the stay was definitely the staff. They always had a smile on their faces, always greeted you and did their best to make your stay more enjoyable. Special thanks to Ewa at the reception and some of the entertainers namely Mauricio, Carlos, and the entertainment director whose name escapes me at the moment. The one main problem about staying here was the lack of AC in the lobby and at the main buffet restaurant. We had to bring the food to the room a few days because the baby could no longer handle the heat and humidity. Several couples with young kids had the same issues. Pool was nice and expansive, don't understand why it's so deep? Amazing forest in the middle of the grounds with diverse wildlife.

Very Nice Hotel

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Very relaxing and enjoyable experience. The staff is very friendly and made us feel welcome from the minute we stepped into the lobby on arrival. The grounds are immaculately kept and you hardly even notice all the staff working behind the scenes through the night to have everything ready for the next morning.

Nice Hotel for Nature Lovers & More

Posted Sep 29, 2014
Pros: Friendly Staff Comfortable Room Beautiful Beach
Cons: CNN in English for TV Free Wifi We found the hotel lobby and it's very nice bar to be extremely hot even in the late evening
Location: Hotel is located about a 30 minute (10 minute taxi) to downtown Playa Del Carmen Small shopping area about a block north of property
This is a very nice property located near the south end of the beach hotels in Playa Del Carmen. It's design is around the jungle and if you like that kind of theme this is the place for you. If not, it is still a very nice property. We found the room to be quite comfortable. Air conditioning worked well. Room restocked every day with bottled water, beer, and soda. No clock in the room. TV had a number of channels but only 4 English speaking ones. We were disappointed that we could not at least get CNN in English. Lots of entertainment during the day at the pool and at night at the "night club". Extremely friendly and attentive staff. Beach was beautiful. Wifi is not free ($20 per day). We stayed here 7 nights and enjoyed our stay overall.

Older but clean facility in jungle setting

Posted Aug 21, 2014
Pros: Nobody at this hotel pushed us for any sort of time share. Thank you! Jaime in the lobby Tucan bar was really wonderful.
Cons: Perhaps some room upgrade/renovations. Also, the pool looked as if it could use a bit more cleaning toward the end of our stay.
Location: Go to Xplor Fuego! This is a must! Skip the day time crowds and try the zip lines, amphibious vehicle and refreshing cenote swim or paddle.
This is a nice facility for families. The rooms are clean and the grounds are well maintained. Most of the staff was really warm and friendly...especially the folks directing activities, particularly water polo and aerobics. The room did show a bit of age but was kept very clean. The restaurants on site are great...especially the Japanese and the Mexican. Peacocks roam the facility and you will hear howling monkeys off and on throughout the stay. Also present were iguana and a small guinea pig looking creature as well as a few tropical birds that enjoyed helping themselves to the buffet.

We would like to thank you for sharing your comments about your stay at our resort. We are grateful for kind words to our hard working staff, especially Jaime in the lobby bar and our Entertainment Team “Star Friends”. It is lovely to know that you had a pleasant stay and you enjoyed our Mexican and Japanese a la carte restaurants; our Chef will be excited to receive your gentle words. Regarding our rooms, please note that their style was created to integrate with the hotel's concept and decoration. However, we do believe that renovations and improvements can always be done. Your feedback has been sent to the Housekeeping Management. Concerning our pools, please rest assured that we are continuously enforcing all measures to offer safe and clean facilities; our pools are indeed cleaned daily with chemicals and the water is monitored. Once again, we thank you for your review and we wish to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon. Kind regards,

OK resort but very hot!

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: Maid service was awesome and the rooms were comfortable. Bartenders were also great. Beach is gorgeous.
Cons: The food definitely needs some improvement -- some variety. It was the same stuff every day. They could serve a little higher quality alcohol.
Location: We did not leave the resort. But FYI, if you go there, there is a Domino's that delivers.
We had a pleasant trip overall and the beach was very nice. The staff was great and very helpful, but it was so hot. The resort has very little air conditioning in public areas (eating areas). The only place you could get cool was in your room or in the ocean. The food in the main dining areas was not good and it was so hot in those areas that it made the food even less appealing. Hamburgers by the pool were decent but you get tired of eating hamburgers every day. They have some specialty restaurants but very limited availability. We were there for four nights and only allowed to make one reservation in a restaurant. Maybe they should offer a restaurant where you pay. Believe me, I would have been willing to pay for a few dinners just to have something decent to eat and we were only there for 4 days. Main lesson learned -- do not go in August. We did have an extremely good deal on this place so the other lesson learned was that you get what you pay for. I would not go back to this resort -- next time I would pay a little more for a higher quality experience.

We would like to thank for your comments and observations that always help us to improve the quality of our services. We appreciate your positive opinion about our nice and comfortable rooms as well as our hard working staff that are a motivation for many guests to return. Regarding the food, we would like to inform you that our Executive Chef and his team of cooks are continuously creating new dishes in order to vary the food selection and satisfy guests from all over the world. We are sorry to read that our buffet did not meet your expectations, we will keep working on that aspect. Additionally, we would like to add that our resort is designed with traditional Mexican architecture and it integrates with the natural grounds. Most areas are outdoors so they are equipped with ceiling fans. However, your remark about more air-conditioned facilities will be forwarded to the Management for their consideration. We are thankful for your honest words and we hope to welcome you back soon. Sincerely,
