Pros: The hotel staff is the best...very accommodating...they definitely do their best to make of your stay a wonderful experience.
Cons: Nothing.
My family and I were really happy we booked our vacation in this hotel...If we go back to Playa we will definitely arrange to stay at this hotel again. We all had a wonderful experience...it was kind of unique.

STILL Under Construction; Converting to Time Share

Posted Mar 19, 2014
Pros: The staff is great - very friendly. I hope they find good positions and utilize their talents in hotels and resorts that appreciate them.
Cons: Be upfront with guests about the situation. Manager should be onsite if they really intend to keep the hotel open during the construction/transition.
Location: Playa is about a $20 cab ride away. Better to stay a resort closer to the town.
First the positive: Hotel staff was nice, and the chef made delicious (but over priced) food. The negative: The hotel staff didn't seem to have knowledge of what was going on in terms of the construction, why, and when it would end. During our entire stay, we never saw a manager that we could speak with. There was loud construction starting at 0730 AM until 0730 PM throughout the hotel grounds (next to our room, next to the pool, and on the beach), so there was no where to go to relax, even though they billed themselves as a resort and spa. The beach is rocky here, so you have to go past a bunch of abandoned buildings to Azul Fives and swim there. The former ceviche bar, which had a spa cabana on the top is now a Time Share office. Forget even thinking about the "Spa". In its place is a big ugly white building that blocks our view from the sea. The hotel is in the process of getting converted to a Time Share. One morning, we witnessed a ton of timeshare salespeople bringing folks from the hotel in to sell to them. The hotel staff was even ordered to pitch us, which they half-heartedly did. We wish for all of the headache and discomfort we had booked somewhere else, but the hotel had nothing about its continued construction visably posted on its website, on Expedia. On Trip Advisor on March 5, it even posted that the construction had finished. That is completely untrue.

Dear Mr. Colicoco, Thanks for sharing your experience at our beautiful property; we are deeply sorry that during your stay on March, you had to experience the changing process from a European Plan & adults only property to a Gourmet A la Cart All Inclusive & family property. The construction process ended months ago, the improvements made are amazing and actual clients can enjoy better facilities among the upscale service that is distinctive at Le Reve, it would be a pleasure to welcome you again. Romantic and Comfortable

Posted Feb 6, 2014 on Hotels.com
We had a great time at Le Reve! It was a surprise to us that the hotel was under renovations when we arrived but the staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable (providing us with a room far from construction noise and offering to provide meals on the beach or in our room to avoid any construction interference). (You might want to call ahead to see if construction is still going on.) Bernisa at check-in was wonderful to us and made our stay perfect. The hotel grounds are beautiful and I'm certain they'll be even better in a few weeks when construction is complete. It is a great place to unplug from tv and the internet and recharge by the water. We arranged for private yoga lessons and enjoyed lots of lazy room service breakfasts (both of which I recommend highly!).

They had the builders in.

Posted Feb 2, 2014
Pros: The location by the sea is excellent.
Cons: The communication with guests beforehand that there is major building works going on.
Location: Swim and walk down the beach.
I'm sure that the hotel is normally very pleasant. However, without giving us any prior warning, the hotel was being revamped by builders. This meant loud hammering and sawing from 7.30am every day, even on the weekend. There was also no gym or beachside bar as it was a pile of noisy rubble. I appreciate that works have to undertaken from time to time, but we were not warned and would have gone elsewhere had we known that sleeping was optional.

Great stay & great place for a wedding!

Posted Dec 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
We just recently had our wedding here. Fantastic place, and Arlenis the wedding coordinator is fantastic! Cannot recommend highly enough. What could have been a stressful situation was extremely well managed. As for the hotel, rooms are beautiful and boutique like. Master suites are largest rooms, but bungalows are right on the beach and can't be beat. Internet did not work from bungalows, and there are no TVs. It's kinda the point of the place.

This was a fantastic hotel. It is a boutique hotel with a small number of rooms. The service was very personal and friendly. The rooms are pretty basic, but that's exactly what we were looking for. The grounds are well kept and the pool is great. I highly recommend this hotel (although would rather not bring the world there and keep it our little secret). The only down side was the pot holed dirt road that makes you think you took a wrong turn on the way there. But once there, everything was fantastic.

Clean Hotel with normal pricing.

I splurged and stayed two doors down at the Viceroy couple days before this , and that place paled in comparison to the perfect service and value i had at La reve. Sure my room was on the small side (almost NY or SF small), but it was clean, and better mattress than Viceroy. The staff treats you like the guest and do all they can to provide for you... but never seemed overbearing and "on top of me". i would for sure go back to La Reve, just so i can try out all the types of ceviche! Bang for the buck this is a good choice in PDC.

Not a good time.

Posted May 28, 2013
Pros: On the beach
Cons: Location, price, pest control
Location: Far from town, down an unpaved road, very secluded
First night we went for a walk on the beach through the door of our private garden. We left the door open because it was late and didn't think anyone would be out and we felt safe. In the morning we came to find 50 pesos had been taken from my wallet. Second night we found a scorpion in the bed. We thought it was dead and reported it to the front desk. We came back to the room and the scorpion was gone! My husband looked for it under the pillow and it came crawling out ALIVE! We changed rooms thankfully, but the next morning in our new room a cockroach crawled on my foot in the shower. It was so gross and scary. The front desk asked us if we wanted to change rooms again and I said no because its such a hassle. They left a can of raid in our room while we were out so we could kill the roaches. That night a flying cockroach landed next to us in bed. I wanted to go on a relaxing vacation and did not expect to be attacked by bugs and poisonous insects. The hotel gave us a complimentary dinner on our last night which was nice, but I wouldn't go back.

Perfect quiet hotel for couples

Posted Mar 28, 2013
Pros: Loved the food, the service, the quiet, the beach.
Cons: No television anywhere on-site (on NCAA Tourney weekend!) but we got over it.
Location: About 5 miles north of downtown Playa del Carmen on a stretch of beach with few other hotels.
This was the perfect experience for us. We wanted a small hotel, very nice, adults only (spring break, so we wanted to avoid the millions of families at the big all-inclusive hotels!). Le Reve Hotel filled the bill. There's a restaurant on-site and the food is really excellent. There are beach chairs with pads and new, clean covers put on every morning Everything is squeaky clean. The bartender at the beach bar is constantly asking if you want something to eat or drink (this is not an all-inclusive, but the food and drinks were very reasonably priced). The grounds were in impeccable condition, well taken care of and there was a wonderful infinity pool snaking through the grounds. We had a private garden room. It was small, but very comfortable. WARNING: there is not a single television on site, so don't expect to watch TV. After the first day, we were over it. It really helped us relax. All of the staff was FABULOUS. Thanks to Jesus, Roberto, Antonio (both of them!), Carlos, Manual, Ismael, etc. They anticipated your needs, were unfailingly pleasant and just very nice people. The beach bar closed at sunset but one evening we were there with two other couples from the hotel, having a great time and the staff offered to serve our dinner at the beach bar. So we let the party continue and the staff LOVED watching us have such a wonderful time. I highly recommend Le Reve Hotel and Spa and would return in an instant.
