“loved it.”
Excellent service. Great location. Beautiful place.
“The perfect place to stay in Playa del Carmen”
Loved it! Peaceful, comfortable and right on the best beach in Playa del Carmen. We had a balcony with hammocks and a lovely ocean view room. No TV in the rooms makes this a truly relaxing getaway. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
“Just LOVE it!!!”
Its an amazing place!! just on the beach... very quiet and really beautifull. The staff is great. We loved Gabriel... he was really nice with us, and tried to help us all the time. The room is pretty... and clean. We loved that it has no TV.. There are hamocs outside of every room... amazing! The beach... uf!!! really beautifull. The hotel is located near the 5 av, in a very quiet but moved neighboorhood. a little walk and there are some good bars, and the main street with lots of bars and restaurants. The food was good, we had breakfast on front of the beach... they have a lot of mexican stuf. For lunch was also great, and by night, some days they had buffet and other a la carta.... We just want to come back SOON!!!!!!
“you know your in trouble when the landscaping staff is friendlier than the bartender”
The shuttle we had arranged thru the hotel was waiting as promised at the airport. We arrived at 1pm and our room was ready which was nice since check in time wasn't until 3pm. It was clean and air conditioned but nothing fancy except the swan shaped towels on the bed. The bungalow type huts were 2 stories and it was unfortunate but our accomodations were on the downstairs level. We could hear every step our upstairs neighbors took. The walls were extremely thin. The other downside to the hut was it was located right next to the restaurant so we had many nights of hearing clanking dishes and staff yelling to one another sounding like they were in the room with us. Also at 6 am there was some type of construction going on behind our hut. We almost asked after the 2nd morning to have our room changed but we reconsidered since we didn't feel like packing up for only 2 more days stay. The pool was nice and the beach was beautiful. No staff to get drinks for you. So having to get up off the beach to get a beverage was not that convenient. The food was not that great. Salad bar was actually better than the entrees. Also the portions were disturbingly small. 1 stalk of broccoli and 1 cherry tomatoe next to a 3X3 inch portion of spinach lasagne. There is 1 restaurant and 1 bar. Bartender clearly ignored us for 15 minutes one day when he only had 5 people at the bar. He mumbled something in spanish and never served us. And, worst of all, they ran out of bottled water.
“Pure beauty!”
Finally lots of nature And no concrete = lovely
“Wonderful and Magical”
Location CANNOT be beat! The resort is ON the beach and a 5-10 minute walk to downtown. Grounds were beautifully kept and the staff were exceptional! The hotel may not be for everyone since there aren't tv's, phones, radio, etc but you are in Mexico to enjoy the beach, sun, ocean, etc. not the room. We bought a cheap cooler at the Oxxo for water and beer. Food was very good and two meals included everyday. There are so many wonderful staff who are waiting to help you for whatever you need. The only thing we were not happy about was the noise from the surrounding guests. Due to the close proximity you are to the other rooms and bungalows, you can hear everyone who passes by as if you were right outside with them. Other than that, this place is truly magical like they say. The beach is one of the best if not the best in town. So many of the locals agree and is obvious by how many of them flock to this area. We never had any issues with finding a chair on the beach since security enforces that only guests can use them. Will definitely return!
“there once”
It was nice to be right on the beach and very low key location. I like that it was not so much tourist around. Bring lots of dinero because, tipping is livelihood for the people of Cancun. Hotel had no TV or refrigerator. I could take no tv, but a small ref would have been great. Nice staff and very helpful. If you want low key then and reasonable price then this is the place.
“Great for price”
I thought Mahekal was a great value. The beach was very nice and so was the pool. I love the privacy. The food was good although there are not many choices. Its definitely not the same as the 4+ star resorts with the extra amenities and activities but for the money its well worth it. Walking to 5th Avenue is a definite plus.
“We will be going back next year”
After staying in an older, bigger, louder hotel in Cancun, and a long taxi ride to get to Paya Del Carmen (our taxi driver got lost in an unpleasant looking area of Playa Del Carmen) we didn't expect much, but we arrived at this lovely little oasis. We were so excited by the quaintness of the hotel property. Having our own little "hut" with our own porch with hammocks was so relaxing and private compared to staying in a big hotel. The rooms are very nice and clean. The location on the beach was perfect, the pool was great and security was tight. The restaurants on the property were very good, and the staff was very helpful. The proximity to 5Th Avenue was just right, far enough away from the hotel and yet within walking distance. We loved the hotel so much we plan on returning again next summer.
“Excellent place to unwind”
Mahekal is paradise. I went there in August and it was quiet and relaxing, not necessarily due to a lack of guests but because everybody here - guests and staff- seems to be in such a good, calm mood. There were both families with kids and couples. This is definitively NOT the kind of hotel to go if you are looking to be entertained constantly or for the all-you-can-eat-and-drink kind of experience. It is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. Service is excellent- although Mahekal is a three star hotel, service here was at par with any five star hotel I've been to. The hotel sits on a large stretch of great beach close to the town of Playa del Carmen. Food is good, although admittedly there is not a whole lot of variety (it is a relatively small hotel) and quality was uneven across my stay there with some excellent local food on one of the nights and some ok but not-so-great meals on other nights. There was a bar open all day which had great service and good quality drinks. The spa is good and seems to have a lot of different services. I got a massage and it was excellent. The scuba diving shop, Cyan-ha, is also excellent. I did the scuba diver certification and loved it. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. I went to Mahekal by myself but I am definitively bringing my family to this place, if anything because I can use it as a excuse to go back!
