Pros: the river-like pool with a waterfall
Location: Great location in downtown Playa del Carmen
Very nice condo/hotel. Breakfast at Indigo was included and the restaurant is very good, on the beach. Too bad the beach isn't really great for swimming because of the numerous boats tied up to the beach. The location is great for people who want to walk Playa del Carmen.

Beautiful place.....some issues
Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: beautiful design
Cons: fishbowl room, septic smell, construction noise next door
Location: greatj location
This was our first time at Maya Villa and in Playa Del Carmen but we have stayed at other resorts nearby. This was our third time to the area. We stayed in condo 414. It is just to the right of the stairs up. We felt a bit like we were in a fishbowl as people could see in our windows coming up the stairs and the security guards hung out where we could see them from our patio and living room. So we kept the curtains shut which we didn't like. We asked for another room but they were full. Drunk guy staying there was hanging out on our patio and when we told management they immediately put a privacy rope up. They were apologetic about not being able to move us. The room itself is very beautiful. Shower head a bit low budget for resort... Nice well equipped kitchen and grounds are very pretty. My kids loved the pool. Easy walk to Indigo beach with nice grounds. You don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to put towels on chairs. Breakfast was included and good. Lots of local flavor! Free dinner on Sunday night was so so.....not worth the 1 drink minimun. Drinks on beach were fair tasting and quite expensive. Construction going on next door with pounding and cement pouring at 5 am which hotel said they have no control over, which I believe. Some septic smell the last few days for which staff poured bleach into drains. Overall, nice place to stay-maybe a bit pricey though. Avoid room 414 unless you don't mind exposure.

Noisy construction
Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: The property is beautiful and the area is very safe
Cons: Noisy construction; rude staff
Location: Short, pleasant walk to the beach club
There was construction literally on the other side of our bedroom walls the entire week. We tolerated it until it woke us up at 5:00 a.m. on Friday morning! After repeated calls to the front desk, we were told there was nothing that they could do as the people doing the construction had a permit. The noise continued for quite some time and by the time we got back to sleep, we had missed half our day in the sun. Also, the conceirge was not helpful -- I went in several times with questions and requests and he was just rude and unhelpful.

Pros: great location Great ambiance comfortable beds
Location: very close to the beach groceries gym shopping restaurants
We ( my husband, 18 yr old daughter and myself went for Spring break. The ambiance of Maya Villa is charming, quiet, and an excellent location. We were a little unsure of it not being "on the beach" but after doing the 3 min walk to the beach it was no problemo! We had use of the Indigo Beach Club. (Great perk.)There were always lounge chairs w umbrellas available The staff there were so friendly and accomodating Their breakfast buffet was also really good.(this was included w our condo pkg) Very friendly atmosphere Our pkg also included breakfast at Improvist, which is right next door to Maya Villa We LOVED our food there. Nice atmoshere and great staff. We tried the Chia (?) juice sooo good! everything we tried we enjoyed! We walked everywhere. Bought a few groceries at Walmart. Tried many different restaurants. Went to the Blue Parrot. Danced and had a great time there. Not used to staying out til 3am! Worth the experience. It is fun walking along 5th Ave at night. So lively! great places to get a bite to eat and people watch. My daughter and I loved seeing all the fashion. Very clean area. Lots of very good live music. Stray off the 5th for more places to eat. The Maya Villa also had some very good recommendations. Its a magical place with as much or little to do as you like. We had a perfect time (even with 2 cloudy days! I almost forgot to mention the gym we had access to use. Very nice.Friendly staff lots of equipment. We went everyday. A great addition to our stay.

Pros: location, staff, beach club, the Gym that is part of your room charge is unbelievable-I used it everyday,
Cons: bathroom lighting, using an old-fashioned key to get in and out in this particular unit
Location: nothing to say except you will not find better-Porta Play, Maya Villa and El Taj will all have basically the same location and amenities.
In this condohotel each room is decorated differently because they are privately owned. The room was spotless and inviting. The decorating was not really my style but not outlandish either. The satellite TV worked well although there are less channels available in the bedroom than living room. We purchased internet, the staff was very helpful setting it up and once set up it was perfect. The kitchen is well stocked, and if you use anything it is very fairly priced. Mega or Walmart are about a 7 block walk and safe to do. The refrigerators in the one bedrooms are only dorm size and would be much better is full size. The bathroom is functional but bad lighting in the particular unit we were in. Bring a lighted make-up mirror if you like to wear make-up. I cannot say enough good about the location, equal steps to the beach and 5th avenue, yet when you are on your deck relaxing-away from it all-very nice and quiet when you want it to be. Every night we found a new fun thing to do along 5th avenue, there is a lot of live music to be heard and we loved it.

Home Away from Home

Pros: Friendly bi-lingual staff available 24/7. Quiet, safe building with 24-hour security. Relaxing pool and hot tub. Walking access to everything.
Cons: There was loud construction next door between 9 - 5pm. We were rarely there for it and they gave us room credits in exchange for the inconvenience."
Location: Great location to explore on foot. Located on a quiet street just a block from the water. And you can always find a cab on the corner if you need it.
This was a trip with my 3 siblings and a first time for all of us to Mexico. The condo was beautiful, clean and a great quiet escape after long days of excursions or beaches. The location (1 block from the beach club and 1 block from 5th Avenue) was perfect for getting around on foot. My sister and I spent one morning at the gym (also a block away) and it was outstanding--great equipment and very clean. Perhaps the best part of our whole stay was that the entire bi-lingual staff was friendly and accessible 24 hours a day. No matter what time it was, we could ask questions or get advice about where to go and how to get there. We got a great tip from the front desk on local shuttles to Tulum for 40 pesos (about $3 bucks) a piece one way. We liked not having a typical all-inclusive resort experience because we spent more time exploring and finding new places to eat. We even spent a day over on Cozumel. The ferry is just a ten minute walk from the condo. If we had planned to stay longer we could have easily gotten groceries and cooked some meals at the condo which would have helped save money...the kitchen was very well equipped to do so. We were able to charge our drinks and meals at the beach club and other partner restaurants to our room which also made things easy. For first-time travelers worried about not knowing the language...none of us knew Spanish (beyond the basics) and we were fine. But going there just makes you want to learn more. We can't wait to go back!
