Infested with Bugs!!!!!!
My room at the Mosquito beach hotel was infested with bugs. When I asked reception if I could switch rooms, they told me all of their rooms had a bug problem. Additionally, the room was dirty and dusty with soiled linens. I would never stay here again.

AVOID!!! Dirty and full of bugs
I was very disappointed with the Mosquito beach hotel. To put it simply - the place was DIRTY!!!! When I checked into my room I found a take-out container full of food in the closet. There was dust everywhere. The room was also full of tiny flying insects that bite. When I went to reception to ask if there was another room available, he said that they have a problem with bugs in every room! His only solution was to send a maid to our room with a can of insect repellent. Gross - no thanks. Sleeping in a cloud of raid is no better than sleeping with bugs. I was bitten up beyond belief - there are tiny red bug bites all over my arms, legs and chest. Our trip included stops all over Playa del Carmen and the whole Yucitan. The only place where I was bitten by bugs was in my room at this hotel. We swatted the bugs ourselves and left the smears of dead bug bodies on the walls and ceiling. When housekeeping came and went the next day, the bug carcarsses were still there - they didn't clean anything!!!! Housekeeping also didn't change the towels or sheets. As far as I can tell, the only thing they do it empty the trash. The attached restaurant served good food but the service was dishonest. They presented the bill with an enormous service charge attached to it. When I asked about the service fee later at reception they told me it was optional. The waiter did not say it was optional - so that left us feeling like we had been taken advantage of.

I never comment on this type of websites but for this horrible stay I had to warn you because it's not worth the money you pay .This hotel Its like a 2 star hotel . Very dirty and very old . The pillows had holes and the bed sheets where stained and riped . The bathroom walls where very stained and the glass of the shower was like if it hasn't been cleaned in ages . The room had a horrible smell . The air conditioner floaded the room because it's a cheap quality even if they "fixed it " it will still break every day . Floor was full of hair and dust even in the sink there was still hair from the previous guest which was very disgusting. The toilet not cleaned at all very stained . EVERYTHING Dirty ! It needs a renovation ASAP and a better Housekeeping team . The location is great but the rest it's very bad.

Beach access, unique pool and centrally located
Overall a very good experience. The design and amnesties where good and staff was excellent. The breakfast buffet was marginal as was the rest of the food offering but there are many restaurants within 2 minutes walking distance. There is free Wi-Fi too that worked throughout the property. The hotel is in a pedestrian zone, there is absolutely no parking. You can choose street parking or pay for private parking 2 blocks away. Not suitable for families with kids, pool is very deep and no play area available.

Brilliant hotel
BEST location in playa! Surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars, nightlife and above all the best beach in the world! The direct beach access is well worth money for a 5th Ave hotel. Beach club is the best, service is exceptional and the food and cocktails are amazing. Hotel staff were outstanding, extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms a well appointed, although the square toilets are a little out there! Best holiday I've ever had, I will be back!

Very trendy hip hotel with ALL night dance party
We booked here for one night on our way down to Tulum. Our initial impression was great. Very urban, hipster hotel. The room was beautiful with a view of the water. Be warned - they do not provide bottled water. Every other hotel I've ever stayed at in Mexico has provided water. Here the water is in the mini fridge and ridiculously expensive. The beach is very eroded away and will likely vanish significantly this year given that all of their palm trees are tied together - not smart! Breakfast was tasty and included. The absolute worst part was the late night party at the beach club. We checked in and got a room directly adjacent to the beach club. I looked out my window and directly below my window a band was setting up a large drum set. Signs at the beach club indicated a party starting at 7pm that night. No one at the front desk mentioned anything about this. We wouldn't have minded a short party. The party and the band started at 8pm and went until after midnight. The music was amped and so loud in our room even with all of the windows closed. We were exhausted from getting up at 4am to travel and just couldn't sleep - completely miserable and unacceptable that no one said anything to us. It's ridiculous to have something like that right inside your hotel where your guests can't get away from it - during the day, fine but once the sun goes down - no way. Would definitely not return here just for that.

Spare, modern design, beachfront hotel
Enjoyed our stay at this conveniently located beachfront hotel. Half a block from 5th avenue, and close to the bus and ferry, it was easy to get around. Room was spare, but attractively designed. There were a few mechanical issues with the door and toilet and needed more places to hang wet items. Staff was great, and we enjoyed breakfast steps from the ocean every morning on the terrace. Very comfortable double beds for beach lounging under the palms.

Terrible hotel.
Terrible hotel. Staff and service were extremely unhelpful. Room was loud and we asked to be changed and they kept stringing us along w/no intention to move us. Linens were a commodity. We didn't see a wash cloth or hand towel for days. When we continued to ask they looked like us like we had 2 heads. We ran out if toilet paper and took a day for them to replenish it. The staff almost laughed at us with their unsatisfactory responses. The beach is eroded away and they only have filthy beds to lay on. No beach chairs. Totally disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy.

Future Tear Down
The location is great: beach front but only 100 yards from 5th Ave. Staff was friendly and bilingual. Food at beachfront cafe was tasty and reasonably priced. Our complaint is with the maintenance. All of the wood trim including the pool deck was weathered. Steel beams were very rusty throughout. Our room and bathroom had wood plank flooring screwed down with phillip's head screws. How do you clean and disinfect rough wood. The King Deluxe room was grossly under-furnished lacking a dresser! And on our last night a band played until 1:30 making for a short night.

No Beach!
Very disappointing. We had stayed here previously 4 times. Last time 4 yrs. ago. The hotel has not been kept up. The beach has washed away and you cant even lay in the sun. The staff at the bar and restaurant are not trained well. They didnt have napkins available. Never was given wash clothes or hand towels in our room. Only 1 bath towel each. They left 1 bottled water per day in our room. It appeared as if it was complimentary, as no price was given. At checkout, we found out that they charged us $15 for each bottle!!!! What a Rip Off!

Great location lacking service and cleanliness
The location and beach is phenomenal, central to the town with good eats and 5th ave. Room had a distinct smell of mold and was not cleaned for the first 2 days of our stay. We had to ask for everything from toilet paper to towels and finally we went to the front and asked them what we had to do to get our room cleaned. They started cleaning the room thereafter but really, I shouldn't have to ask you multiple times for 2 days. Hotel has an amazing ambiance but it is not well maintained...mold, marks on the walls, discoloration, stains, and the bathroom corners/edges are dirty. Air conditioning is great, but rooms are a bit small. Bed is hard (in case you don't like it, we like softer beds). Beach hotel service is good but service staff inside hotel need to learn proper hospitality etiquette. We were given the incorrect bill at checkout, make sure to check all your receipts or they will make mistakes! Won't stay here again, too bad because the location and beach are awesome.

Nice hotel in a great location!
We booked the hotel on a recommendation from our travel advisor. She said is was a great location at a reasonable price. The hotel is right on the beach and at the center of Playa del Carmen's main action (a few hundred feet from 5th Ave). The room was comfortable but on the dark side with dark wood floors designed to take the sand and water abuse. There is a private beach where you can lounge on giant mattresses in the shade of palm trees. The beach is small and eroded, the swimming area has some rocks but mostly sand. Restaurant and bar service and food is excellent. The breakfast buffet was great. You have to watch your bill carefully, the hotel tried to charge us for an expensive water bottle even if we had not taken anything from the mini fridge.

Close to the action but just far enough away
Breathtaking views and a great location. This hotel is ideally situated. The Gulf is only about 15 feet from the property! The rooms could use some updating, especially interior brightness. Try to get a room with a balcony. Restaurants and shopping are only a block away. If you want to make sure you get a beach towel, I would suggest you bring one from home. Also, wash cloths seem to be at a premium. We did not receive one until the third day! Pool is not heated.

Shame nice situated
I had the largest and most expensive room available, but yet, bathroom is so small and inconvinient. Shower to small and no air extractor for example. Clean is not available. I found 3 cucarachas in my room and when I told the reception they just said it was "a city problem"!!!! The beach club wich is beautifully situated, is out of maintenence. Chairs for seating tables are always dirty and you don't want to use their restrooms. Waiters are the worst of playa del Carmen, period. It's a shame the beutiful location and design.

Perfect for us - but not for everyone
This hotel is perfect for some people, but it caters to a particular type of person. For example, if you have a lazy-boy in your living room because you think it's comfortable, you will probably hate this hotel. If your style is important to you, if you enjoy deep house or EDM, if you think people should make an effort to look good even at the beach, then you will probably love this hotel. If you think an urban, minimalist feel can work in a down to earth beach village, you will be amazed. And the location is perfect. Quiet but still close to all the good clubs and most of the good restaurants. But, if you wear crocs and sweatpants to Appplebees on a Saturday night, this will be the worst hotel you have ever seen.

Super location
Great location , right on the beach. The beds on the beach were nice and the palms allowed you to stay in the shade if you wanted . I noticed that through out the week several people came by and rented rooms at an undiscounted price . That tells me they didn't like where they were at and moved to this hotel even if it cost a more than the placed they originally rented . No hand towels though, I don't get that - plenty of beach towels !

So dissapointing...
My boyfriend and I returned last week from a trip to Playa del Carmen. We spent 5 WONDERFUL days at the Valentin Imperial Maya Resort (HIGHLY recommend!!!) and were having such a good time that we decided to extend our vacation an extra three days. We decided on Mosquito Beach Hotel to be close to the beach & restaurants and can't even begin to tell you what a terrible experience we had. The room itself was HORRIBLE - TINY with dark brown walls and zero natural lighting. Not only that, but we had to listen to the constant house music from the beach club. We asked multiple times at the front desk if we could be moved to a quieter room and were told every single time that they would "look into it" and never did anything about it. Our room key stopped working more than 10 times during our stay - one particular time, we had to go back to the front desk 4 times (!!!) before someone actually came to our room to help. They then proceeded to replace the batteries in the lock not once, but twice, and the keys still didn't work. Again, we asked to be moved to a different room and they did nothing to assist with that. The front desk staff was completely rude & did absolutely nothing to fix the situation. I work at a hotel myself, and have never witnessed such terrible service in all of my travels. I could write 100000 other things that were terrible about our stay but I don't have enough space. Long story short, DO NOT waste your money by staying here!!! You will regret it!!

Location is the only strength of this hotel
Mosquito beach commands one of the best locations of any hotel on the strand; however, I was disappointed on how poorly maintained the property was (shower leaked over the floor, tile patched poorly) worth poor design (VERY little sink counter space with no proper towel storage). My GF and I had to essentially put everything on the floor in the shower; towels were scarce (3/room). Given the price point I expected a bit more.

Difficult to sleep and in need or repair
There was a loud grinding motor noise which continued all night and made it difficult to sleep. There was also significant noise from the hotel's beach club. The plug in the bathroom basin could not be removed so basin did not drain. There were also broken tiles in the shower. There was a blackout which lasted for about 2 hours. Overall very disappointing considering the price paid for the room.

Service was great. Employees are very well mannered and helpful. The conditions of the room and maintenance was poor. We had to change rooms because there was a water leak inside the closet. Rooms are too dark and there is not enough closet space. Also the space for personal bathroom necessities was limited. Sheets are really rough, like sand paper. Locations was very convenient, close to shopping, great restaurants and ten steps from the beach. Overall we payed more than we received and would not recommend it even though it has a good name among the locals.

Great hotel right on the beach
The staff was fantastic; very friendly and helpful, couldn't have asked for more from them. The hotel is perfectly located right on the beach, as well as steps away from all the nightlife. Even though it's close to the action, the street it is situated on is very quiet at any time of day. We chose to have dinner there only once but the food was great and inexpensive. We also chose a table on the beach, and being able to dine with your feet in the sand made it a exceptionally pleasant experience. The room was a bit less comfortable than we were hoping: it was on the smaller side, did not smell super fresh upon arrival(a little mildewy) and the shower knob was frustratingly tough to operate (knob was poorly designed, tough to grab on to). There was nowhere to place most of our toiletries so the extra items ended up back in the carrying cases on the floor. Lighting was a bit too dim. On the good sides: the balcon overlooking the pool was a major plus, bed was firm and comfortable, and we slept very well. Temperature was perfect at any time during the day or night thank to the central ac. Overall I would definitely stay at this hotel again, we really got 5 star service and great amenities for a great price.

Mosquito Beach Hotel report
This was our second stay at this hotel. On the first visit, we had a mini-suite which was quite nice. On the latest visit we had a regular room. The room it self was nice but had only one chair and one end table next to the bed - a bit weird since they clearly cater to couples. Worst was the AC location as it blew air directly over the bed.

Good if you get a good deal
We stayed for 5 nights and paid $179 a night. Definitely not worth that much. If you can get it for less than $100 a night, it's worth it. There is no beach view from hotel rooms. Rooms pretty much face each other. Bathrooms are not very clean. No irons in room. Guards will not let you bring in guests after 11pm. So if it is a group of friends, stay at same hotel or you won't be able to hang out. The breakfast buffet is excellent. Day beds are great on beach. But I can't emphasize it enough. It's worth it if you get a deal closer to $100 a night. Not much more. Most hotels nearby for 60-80 bucks a night are only a 5 minute walk to beach. If you want a true resort style hotel, pay for a known brand. It's worth it.

Cool hotel for someone who loves the nightlife
Mosquito Beach is a cool, modern hotel with a hip vibe. It's in the heart of Playa del Carmen and right on the beach, so if you're into the "scene" it's a perfect place to stay. However, if you're coming to Playa for a little R&R and like the peace and serenity of nature, or if you're keen on experiencing the local culture, you're not going to get that here. For nightlife and fun this place is good, but for the adventurer it won't do much for you. Personally, I like a quiet beach and the local flavor, so I prefer to stay further north on Main St where it isn't so "touristy". In addition, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and modern, but you could be in Europe just as easily as in Mexico. The rooms are a bit dark, too. This hotel feels like it could be anywhere, but just happens to be in Mexico.

Nicely done
Mosquito beach was a great experience at a fair price. The breakfast is great - who doesn't want to sip coffee and enjoy a croissant or omelette seventy feet from the ocean? None of the rooms, save one, have a direct view of the ocean, but the layout is such that everyone is staggeringly close the the sea. The hotel may try a bit to hard in some respects; they are super modern. Some items push the modernity to the detriment of functionality, although everything ultimately functioned very well. The one unfortunate occurrence during our stay was a tourist trap of a tour to chichin itza. The ruins were fantastic, but the hotel had booked us on a trip with several stops where we were expected to buy poorly made handicrafts. This was annoying and somewhat wasteful of our time. When we told the front desk about our experience, they were sincerely apologetic. I believe they had no intention of wasting our time. Other than that hiccup, it was a great hotel for a trip full of relaxing and exploring.

The hotel was fine for the price. My experience in regards to the staff is on our 2nd last day we sat on the bed lounge by the beach and a man ( who wasn't a guest) sat down next to us He proceeded to talk to us and ordered food which we didn't have a problem with Then my friend and I left our spot to walk up the beach for lunch and when we got back one of the staff accused me that I knew the man who sat on the bed lounge earlier as he didn't pay his bill. I was highly offended at this as he thought we were lying. It's their fault if they choose to let people who aren't guests use their facilities and don't monitor whether they pay for their meal.

Perfect location!
Mosquito Beach is a fantastic boutique hotel right on the beach in Playa del Carmen. It's right in the middle of town and provides easy access to the bus station, ferry to Cozumel, etc. The only caveat I would offer is that their package deals are not all-inclusive - no meals and drinks included. Be aware of this when you're booking.
