Two Senors Second visit to Ocean Coral & TuruesaPosted Dec 3, 2013
Pros: Good food, comfortable room, friendly staff, Kayaks, Catamarans
Cons: Bad wine and sparkling wine, dehumidifiers in rooms make noise, annoying motion sensor turns off lights while reading. Bad road to hotel, so no bikes
Location: Good catamarans, easy ride to coral reef for snorkeling
We stayed for one week at Ocean Coral and Turquesa in Puerto Morelos, just south of Cancun. We stayed there last year and came back for another week this year. The road from the main highway to the shoreline had deteriorated since last year and was partially under water. The road passes through a mangrove jungle national park and due to heavy rain this fall, the water level had risen. All vehicles going to and from all of those hotels were forced to drive extremely slowly to get through many parts of the roadway getting there. The check-in process seemed to take much longer than necessary when they already had all of our information. They didn’t seem to recognize that we were returning guests, and required us to fill out forms with contact information etc. Our room was nice and very similar to last year. It is comfortable, with nice patio, well-appointed bathroom, and relatively quiet. Their light switch arrangement is bizarre, and has no explanation of what the various switches do. The room has a motion detector that turns off all of the lights if nobody is moving. Possibly the detector in the bedroom portion had failed because we had to go into the bathroom area every 20 minutes to get the lights to turn back on. I reported that problem to the desk clerk and they implied that it was a common complaint and not much they could do about it.

Great ResortPosted Dec 2, 2013
Had a great time very nice resort. The beach itself could have been better. The restaurants were great, could go to a new one every night. Worst part is the road leading to the resort half of it is washed away, takes 20 minutes when it should take 2, someone needs to fix that!

Pros: Close to beach
Cons: Restaurant food quality low to average. Again caters to those that value quantity over quality
Hotel seems to draw many obnoxious and loud Americans. Not good for couples planning a romantic getaway by themselves

Wishing we were still therePosted Nov 30, 2013
Pros: Right on the beach. Great food with an incredible variety of choices. Friendly staff. Clean!
Cons: Entrance road was rough, damaged by a recent rain. Speed at front desk could be better. They were very friendly, though..
Location: Lots of "X"-cellent things close...zip lines, underwater rivers, 4-wheeling
We spent 6 days, 5 nights. It was more than we had hoped/expected. We'd go back in a heartbeat. Terrific value!

Satisfaction not guaranteed.Posted Nov 27, 2013
Pros: Food, lots of choices.
Location: Nearest town is 2 miles away, you need a pick up or a bus to get to the main road, secondarty road is in awful condition.
I had never stayed here before and I regret not reading enough reviews on tripadvisor before. The buffet restaurant has great food, but empty tables with leftovers are unattended, you have to waive several waiters to make them notice you need coffee or water, plates are piled up in your table, you can sense a lack of responsibility, and there’s no supervision at all. Accidents happened everyday with broken glasses and plates. I’m not expected to be attended in a hurry since I’m on vacation, but you’re paying for a minimum standard of service and this resort doesn’t have it. If your have a toddler, find a child’s seat by yourself, and take it to your table. A staff member from the privilege section offered us to send us a bottle of wine delivered to our room; It arrived one day later and he missed our glasses. He told us he would send them, but he never did. He also offered us to reserve our taxi to the airport, but we refused immediately. If simple things can not be done properly, how can you trust the employees?. Read carefully the tripadvisor reviews and you’ll find out about rooms ransacked and stolen items. Perhaps that’s the reason you’re constantly reminded to keep your valuables at the safe box. Even the man that restocks your fridge is accompanied with a security guard. It’s demoralizing I don’t recommend this resort, If you want to spend some quality time with your loved ones look somewhere else. After all, it’s your money, and your well deserved vacation.

Second time there.Posted Nov 25, 2013
Pros: The pools, beach, staff.
Cons: The mold/mildew must be taken care of--it will become a health hazard to those staying long periods of time.
The positives: The grounds are gorgeous, staff accommodating. The staff at the family pool are just superb. This was my second trip to Ocean Coral. The negatives: I was disappointed in several things: 1. Our room and another family member's room was extremely damp and reeked of mold. Our room was on the first floor, the other room on the second floor. Despite asking for something to help with the smell and being promised a dehumidifier, it never materialized. I cannot stress enough the horrid smell that permeated all of our belongings, insides of suitcases, clothing, etc. When I opened my suitcase at home, my clothing was extremely damp. 2. The staff for the "H-10 premium" congregated in the lobby around a table chatting with one another despite back ups at the front desk. Also, everyone checking into the hotel is offered a "welcome" gift--a pitch to sell a time share. They are relentless if you don't pick up your welcome gift, and borderline rude once they discover the spouse that must be required to do the pitch did not come to Mexico with you. 3. The road to the resort was underwater--people were actually fishing in the road when we arrived. We were warned about it at the airport by the transportation service. Cars were stuck in the water. A sunny, beautiful week later, is was almost the same. The hotels that depend on the road for guests to get in and out need to take action on fixing this problem.

Satisfied in general, but wouldn't return.Posted Sep 29, 2013
Pros: Close to the airport, price was good at time of booking, nice pools, clean, and mostly friendly staff.
Cons: Hard beds, lumpy pillows, electricity should run all night for all elec. fixtures, milk or cream with coffee maker, self serve beverages in buffets.
Despite knowing most of the negatives from reading a lot of reviews here and on TA, we were still surprised with some things that could have made for a better stay. The entire area from building 17 through 21 was closed, including the kids' club (never saw anyone there), the bar and snack area, and all the rooms empty. It didn't impact us, but if I were bringing children and wasn't aware of this, I'd be upset. Even though it's low season, that was a bit much. Plenty of chairs poolside (I'd even say too many as most were empty, it just made for a crowded feeling). Because the ocean water isn't the best for swimming, most people stayed by the pools and there just wasn't enough shade. Restaurants closed on rotating basis which is usual for low season, but there was no advance notice, they should put "daily events" in a newsletter and slip under you door each night as other resorts do. Waiting for beverages in the buffet restaurants, despite low season and low occupancy, is not good. Seemed to be only one waitress working the pools and beach. Not even enough staff at the busy swim up bar. I think this resort is trying to save money with less staff, but in the long run it is going to hurt their business. The lay out of the buildings makes no sense for using the elevators. If you have mobility issues, it can be a challenge.

Not worth the cost!Posted Sep 23, 2013
Pros: Coffee, when you could get it. & massage was good.
Cons: Food!!! & some of staff could be better informed & more helpful. Also, they never had change for tips in dollars, just pesos.
The staff was debatable- some were very helpful, others weren't. The concierge was not helpful at all. Asked about room upgrade (got garden view room) for ocean view & asked how much to upgrade & front desk said they couldn't...the resort was not packed at all and wouldn't give reason why...they did not understand English very well or acted like they didn't. The food was below average. Breakfast buffet was the "best" out of all the meals but kept running out of bacon. The other buffets tasted very stale. And not kept very fresh, so many fruit flies on the food. The Italian restaurant had a very sparse menu as did the Asian restaurant. If you do eat at Asian restaurant, recommend the hibachi food since it will be fresh. The menu food tasted like it was also precooked. Only 1 restaurant open after 11pm called Route 66. Was all frozen food that tasted like it was heated in the microwave. Only plus was they did make fresh coffee at the lobby bar & the coffee cafe but the café not open til 10am. Wasn't that many activities either. maybe it was due to time of year, guess Sept not really in season. Rooms were ok. Smelled "funny" at times. bathroom is "open". No door to get privacy. There was a frosted glass door for toilet and shower section but still not very private. Also, unless you are a "privilege" member, you do not get breakfast room service!!! I have never been to any hotel that you couldn't order coffee to your room!!! We could only do limited lunch & dinner.
