“Wonderful Hotel and location”

2nd time ive stayed at this hotel and it was just as good as the 1st time, its very pretty and peaceful, the staff is more then helpful and kind. Its right on 5th avenue. If you want a place right on the beach then this place isnt for you but its still just a couple blocks from the beach. We stayed on the top floor in the Palapa suite, the room was very clean and comfortable. If your looking for a cheap but very nice place to stay Posada Mariposa is it. La Vagabunda is right across the street from the hotel and good breakfast. You wont be dissapointed with this hotel.

Area recommendations
Hotel sits directly on 5th avenue. Its the most famous place in playa del carmen with all the shopping and places to eat. Or you can walk down and catch a boat to cozumel for the day.
What to pack
MAKE SURE when you LEAVE mexico that anything you pack in your carry on if its liquid that its 100ml or less. If its even 101ml the customs guys will take it. And they dont care one bit what you think
Family-friendly activities
Xel-ha is beautiful, if your going to be around, cozumel, playa or cancun this place is a must. We swam with the dolphins here and everything is was so much fun

“Posada Mariposa, perfect vacation hotel”

This is a great hotel when spending time in Playa. The location is very nice, pretty close to the beach and to a wide variety of restaurants and shops.The staff is helpful and friendly. Great hotel for a very, very reasonable price, highly recommended!

“Wonderful experience”

The service and attention since we got in was very good, people are so nice...the rooms are very clean and comfortable.... the breakfast is great every morning and it’s not far at all from where all the excitement is but still located in a much quiet zone and near the beach so it’s good....

“Amazing Hotel”

Hotel was amazing, the location, the staff,... I can't express enough on how much we enjoyed our stay. We were so comfortable and so relaxed. It was at a perfect spot… right in the heart of 5th avenue.. I would definitely go here again... I already told my husband that we are coming here again very soon!... awesome hotel in awesome playa!

“This hotel is very cute, I would definetely go back ....”

Although it was located on the main street of Playa del Carmen, this Hotel was very pleasant, quiet, and close to everything. All of the people who work there deserve a nod. I have not even had people as pleasant at a 5 star resort! We are already planning a trip back next year. If you are looking for a nice hotel than this is for you.

“not impressed”

beds could have better mattreses ran out of hot water to shower noise levels where very high couldnt relax great location continental breakfast not included. not aware until they charged us!

Area recommendations
if you like fresh ,inexpensive sea food travel a few miles to Tulum and go to 'El camellito Jr" best sea food ever!!!

“What a fun, unexpected place!”

We LOVED our stay! We took the ADO bus from Cancun for our night in Playa Del Carmen, and we were not disappointed at all with the Posada Mariposa. David at the front desk was so kind, very charming, and very knowledgeable about the area. The hotel is right on the main shopping street 5th Avenue, so you are in the middle of the action if you want it. However, once in your room, you definitely feel as if you're a world away. We had two of our finest meals on our whole trip in Playa, once at the Texas Barbeque Co (best ribs EVER!!!!) and once at the restaurant owned by the same couple that own the Posada Mariposa. I can honestly say that I have not had Italian cuisine that fantastic since my last trip to Italy, and were we shocked to find such a jewel in Playa Del Carmen. Ask the front desk for a card for 10% off your dinner at the restaurant, but even without the discount we would have eaten there. I will butcher the name if I try to remember it now, so please ask the desk to direct you there. We won't stay anyplace else when we go back to Playa, thank you Posada Mariposa!

“Our room should have been named "Mini Sauna Suite"”

Where do I begin? Our room was nicley located (about 3-4 blocks to beach and on 5th ave), our rooms were promptly cleaned and the lobby is beautiful...this is where the positive comments stop. We choose the Mini-Palapa Suite b/c it appealed to us. BIG MISTAKE. Not only was it on the top floor (no elevator...small spiraling staircase) ...this room was soooo hot! We had to borrow the fan from the front desk! It was miserable at all times of the day/night! The so called A/C unit leaked. Our roof was charming but there were holes allowing sunlight to sneak in. We could hear birds making nests all throughout the day/night. We traveled with another couple and their room was small but cooler. They seemed to put all their efforts into the lobby and outside apperance. The continental breakfest was a complete joke. (Fruit/toast and coffee..not kidding) We had our passports stolen and at times the front desk personel seemed annoyed that we needed to use the phone.(Rooms did not have phones) Complete nightmare...please don't waste your time and go elsewhere.
