Best hotel experiences ever!

Posted Apr 10, 2014
Have never experienced such service! These all inclusive packages were amazing. Riu Mexico is one of the 5 star hotels in the Playa Car beach area, we had access to all of the other 5 Riu hotels surrounding us. This was a great perk and we could use the facilities, eat, drink, sun bake and party anywhere we wanted. The beach is amazing and breathtaking. The main beach, club and shopping area of 5th Avenue, is walking distance. If you don't like to walk in the heat there is always a $7USD Taxi ride. Movie theaters are about a $9USD cab ride (in case you didn't want to miss the premier of Captain America 2) and tickets only cost $3USD. Be sure to visit Chiteniza, one of the many Senotes and beach ruins of Tulum.

Perfect Relaxing Getaway

Posted Apr 7, 2014
This resort was perfect in almost every way. They were very accommodating from the beginning, giving us a room with a king bed when we were only able to book one with two doubles. The staff was very friendly and attentive, at our beck and call, and really showed concern for their guests. Managers were clearly visible and waking around at dinner to make sure everyone was satisfied. It was a perfect size resort (not too overwhelmingly huge like some others) and had plenty of chairs available at the pool and by the beach. We never had to search high and low for chairs even at peak times. The facilities were very clean and the food was good. The remodeled rooms, common areas, and grounds were all beautiful. This resort is more for rest and relaxation than partying. They had liquor available 24/7 and plenty of bars around, but there was no nightclub. Those looking to party can access more happening night life at other Riu properties nearby. It was refreshing to not be around all that "MTV Spring Break 2k14" nonsense. That being said, the entertainment left something to be desired. The one criticism I have is that the bed was very uncomfortable. I tossed and turned the first few nights because I felt like I was sleeping on a cement slab and the pillows were very soft. The towels were also stiff and ready to be replaced. Other than that, EVERYTHING was great. We highly recommend this Riu Palace and will be back!

Not a stereotypical Spring Break experience :)

Posted Apr 5, 2014
Pros: 1. Friendly and attentive staff 2. Cleanliness 3. Luxurious appointments 4. Beach 4. Above average food and bev selections and availability
Cons: Non-alcoholic room assignments. The liquor is too easily accessible in-room for under-aged guests.
Location: It was the perfect locale. This trip I was not able to enjoy all of the rich local heritage and sights that were easily within an hour's drive.
I just returned from Riu Palace Mexico after a 6 day stay with my daughter's senior class and their accompanying parents. This is not a property I personally would have chosen for a high school spring break. So what a pleasant surprise that it did not feel like a high school or college Spring Break whatsoever. I was very grateful for the spa, gym, the above-average food and beverage selections, and the incredible stretch of snow white beach and activities all within less than a couple of minutes walk from our well-appointed room. There was nothing lacking in way of amenities or things to see and do, on or off-property at our disposal. The security and the attention by the staff to the strict age-requirements for alcohol consumption was above expectations, I am sure. There was no high-school or college kid type antics at anytime that I was witness to. This is a property I would definitely return to with my own family or a group of adult friends. I liked that the friendly and helpful staff was predominantly local, and the guests were NOT predominantly American. I am American - just very grateful that although we were a group of 30+ Americans on a Senior Spring Break trip - it never once felt that way. If I could do it over, I would have more confidence of my senior's welfare, and I would have taken off and explored all of the local beauty and history that is available outside of the property. Next time. Thank you to the management and staff at the Riu Palace Mexico.

We just got back 3/21/14. We have traveled to many Caribbean locations and do have to say Riu Palace Mexico was a great place. We loved everything beach, food and service. Very clean hotel. Like that you can venture outside the hotel. We visited the other Riu resorts Riu Palace was definitely more our style. Loved our trip. Only recommendation would be to add live bands entertainment til at least 11pm. Not sure if anything can be done but we both had big bites I think it was from sand. I did see other had same thing.

Pleasant stay at the Riu Palace Mexico

Posted Mar 21, 2014
Pros: The beach and variety of meals and the fact that you could use the facilities at all of the other Riu Palace hotels.
Cons: It would be a good idea to put the college kids there on Spring break in their own wing of the hotel so as not to disturb the other guests.
Location: Great location within walking distance (2 miles) of Playa del Carmen. A small shopping plaza and Starbucks across the street from the hotel.
Very nice facility, beautiful pool area and beach. Hotel room was very musty when we arrived. This is due to the high humidity. The hotel acted on this when we brought it to their attention. Bring ear plugs as it can be very noisy in the hallways at night. The food was great and the staff were wonderful. Overall a very nice time.

A lovely place to stay

Posted Mar 3, 2014
Pros: We traveled in all european countries but in none of those the hotel staff was like here. The staff behavior is not fake. They are realy friendly!!
Cons: When the wind blows from the ocean a lot of noxes from the watersport engines intoxicate us on the beach. I suggest to reset the boundaries for boats.
Location: The Playacar area is great. It is like a minitown with 10 hotels. The tourists are free to go, eat, drink everywhere. The sand and water are amazing.
The hotel is not a 5star+ compared to other luxury hotels from Europe, but this does't matter. I prefere to go to hotels like RIU PALACE MEXICO. The hotel is clean!! We felt excelent! Staff amazing!! They made us to feel excelent!! This is all it matters. Water and sand amazing!!! Playacar amazing!! Mexicans (taxidrivers, people from the street) very frindly and willing to help!! Xcaret, XelHa, Xplore parks amazing!! Chichen Itza and Coba amazing!!! Cancun area sucks!!! DO NOT GO TO CANCUN!! It is a time lose!! It is a imitation of US cities. If you want to see great US cities go to Vegas, NY, San Francisco, Miami, and other. NOT Cancun!! Try to explore the Riviera Maya and other genuine mexican areas by yourself! Mexico have one big problem! The corruption is huge!!

Great resort!

Pros: The beach, the food and the staff.
Cons: The way they hand out numbers for the specialty restaurants. There was a day when people who just arrived tried to get ahead of others already waiting
Location: 25 minute walk on the beach to downtown Playa Del Carmen, a couple of miles to Xcaret.
Very close to downtown shopping at Playa Del Carmen & Xcaret. The food was fantastic, the hotel staff friendly & attentive.

The hotel was very nice. It was on the beach

Posted Feb 23, 2014
Pros: We had the advantage of going to other hotels to swim and visit but preferred to stay where we were.
Cons: It was loud in our rooms when we went back early to rest. Not much sleep except at night.
Location: There is shopping and the beach with parasailing and jet skis. One of the pools thought scuba diving and there were always activities at the pool.
The pool and beach were semi crowded but it was easy to find a chair. We had a great time at the pool bar.
