very Clean, good fresh food and service
Posted Jan 17, 2013
Pros: Food, shows and cleanliness
Cons: Reception could be more helpful
Location: Tour to Chechen Itza 1 day and another to Indiana Joes for zip line and snorkeling in the Cenote. Booked from the outfit across from the Riu Playa Car
Wait staff was ALWAYS kind and courteous. Lobby reception could use a bit of help, but the hotel was very clean and pool was clean....I would go back again and again and recommmend to anyone who was looking to go to Mexico.

AVOID
Posted Jan 14, 2013
Pros: Leaving
This place is absolutely terrible. If you want disgusting food coupled with watered down drinks and vile people then this is your place. It's more about the clientele which make this place so bad. Please avoid at all costs, the AI isn't worth it, stay in Tulum where it's chilled and relaxing and beautiful. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Truly avoid. Should I say it again? Ok, you've twisted my arm. AVOID.

Nice hotel
Posted Jan 13, 2013
Pros: Beach, Bar, Service
Cons: Lunch, the 3rd floor, the lobby is basically out in the open with no a/c
Location: Good location close to EVERYTHING
Great hotel overall. Its staff was great and very helpful and nice. We were checked in 4 hours before the actual check in time. The beach was wonderful and the pool is nice. The only thing is maybe the room is a little small although we were not in there for too long and also going up the the stairs all the way to the third floor sucks especially when you already walked so much. Other than it was great

Great experience once again. The staff is great and very helpful. The rooms are clean and well maintained. There are a variety of activities to be as busy as you like. This was our second stay with RIU Playacar and we would definitely stay again.

Lovely beach but loud hotel!!
Posted Jan 4, 2013
First of all, I had a wonderful time staying here. Pros: Beautiful beach, enough chairs to go around. The layout of the hotel is easy and pleasant. The hotel staff was all very friendly and helpful. I always felt safe and secure here, just my 17 year old daughter and I went. The show one night was outstanding, with Vegas-like dancers and performers. The food was good, not great but good. It is what you can expect at a buffet, never tried the other restaurants. The ice cream is fantastic!! Drinks were flowing and I thought they were good. Location is awesome, downtown playa is an easy walk. Cons: Second night there, found a cockroach in the bathroom...so that kind of creeped me out. The beds are not very comfortable, slightly better than sleeping on the floor. The noise level was bad....from six in the morning til much after midnight carts were rolling on the sidewalk, I thought I was in the middle of a construction zone. Is there a police station nearby? Because sirens were going off constantly. All in all had a nice time...but may try a different hotel next time.

Spring break 2013
Posted Jan 21, 2013
Pros: Pool area and beach, Starbucks across the street
Cons: Food very average, bartenders were not very friendly, evening entertainment was cheesy at best....Little innovation.....room location was bad 5213
Location: Average
Small hotel, suite was nice with large balcony. Evening entertainment was the worst i've seen in many years of traveling to Mexico. Suite was right beside stage area and music was loud until midnight every night.

AWESOME
Posted Jan 25, 2013
Pros: The friendly service
Cons: We had to leave.
Location: Riu Riviera Maya......30 miles south of Cancun
We were completely happy with our first visit and planning to go back next year. We were actually upgraded to the five start riviera maya and everyone was so polite. We had exellent service from Joe, the pool bar bartender who made sure we were having a great time. Our maid, Judith, did an awesome job with our room!! We were there Feb 14-21, 2013.

Pros: Variety of food and options of where and what to eat or do. On the beach and never a shortage of chairs.
Location: On the beach and a 20 minute walk to town.
Great food, lots of options. Friendly staff. Great beach.
