An amazing experiencePosted Mar 5, 2014
Pros: EVERYTHING!!! FOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF WAITERS PROGRAMMS
Cons: Please watch out with Playa Del Carmen Tax services - they con people. They lie about prices. Guests make sure you check the price before riding TAXI
Location: Xalha was great Playa Del Carmen was wonderful, but be ware of Playa Del Carmen Taxi company
Sandos Caracol remained the best among the hotel I stayed in. Our ten days in the resort was nothing but fun fun and fun. The hotel staff were topnotch - i cant even explain how satisfy I am with this hotel. My kids enjoyed every bit of it, the beach is a rocky, however, they are working with federal government to clear it , but few meteres on the right there are lots and lots of nice and clear area to swim in the ocean or else pools are always available. Their events of everyday were all superb. I am so impressed and all I wanna say is - I will go back to Sandos Caracol.

Definitely not a 4 star hotelPosted Mar 5, 2014
Pros: nothing. stayed for an hour and left.
Booked this hotel because it was kid friendly and rated highly at 4 stars. The room we got was awful and the resort felt like we were living in Rainforest Cafe. We switched to their sister property after being at this hotel for an hour.

Sandos Caracol Eco is a good resortPosted Mar 3, 2014
Pros: We liked the staff, the food, the restaurants, the jungle, and the mayan ruin on the property.
Cons: Room quality and comfort were sub-par.
This resort was very interesting as it basically sits inside much of the native jungle with many of the native animals still there and adjacent to a few Mayan ruins. The resort was very well maintained, but challenging to navigate at first with many pathways seperated by jungle and hotel room buildings over a very large acreage. The food was good and the staff was very friendly and courteous. We spent much of our time walking the resort and the beach. The beach was nice, large, and well groomed with plenty of lounge chairs to go around, however this is not a beach that you can swim or wade from without wearing water shoes of some sort. The coastline is largely covered by limestone outcroppings that make it interesting but unfriendly to the feet! Also, there is no decent snorkeling near the resort, we took a half day snorkel trip booked at the resort and were disappointed in the coral reef area that the tour guide took us. The snorkeling is much better farther south near Akumel or around Porta Moreles.

Massive hotelPosted Feb 28, 2014
Pros: Honestly not much. The penthouse elite room was very nice with comfortable bed, etc. but the loud dance/techno like music was almost harassing.
Cons: If you like large resorts and holidays with a very touristic or American feel this is the one for you.
Location: Close ride to Playa del Carmen.
Music was played loud constantly every evening without variation in style to please all populations (dance music played almost exclusively). Horrible mix up on our reservations having been cheated out a couple thousand dollars with little concern for correcting or remedying their overbooking mistake. Food was not good although all the staff were fantastic apart from managers dealing with our room booking where we encountered deceit and unfairness. Tiny beach with rocky water so very poor for swimming.

Nice resort. Wished that the standard rooms had a bath tub for the kids.

Nice Family Oriented HotelPosted Feb 26, 2014
Cons: The card reader to open your room door. I had to get it reset almost 3 days out of the 5 days I was there. It was a bit annoying.
Location: The Playa del Carmen downtown was nice, I wish I had gone sooner instead of the last day.
I had a good time,it's a great family vacation place. My kids enjoyed it very much and didn't want to leave. The only thing I disliked was the beach area, meaning to go into the beach was too rocky. The laying out area was fine.

Familiar big hotelPosted Feb 23, 2014
Old rooms (issues with air and keys), disoriented staff, not all restaurants were accessible.. Good Spa, good facilities to go with children (not my case).. Very close to nature..

Almost PerfectPosted Feb 21, 2014
Pros: The grounds are amazing. It's not the typical all inclusive resort. We all loved searching out the assortment of animals on the grounds.
Cons: The service was mediocre. My husband cut his foot on the pool floor. It was $120 to see the Dr., so he didn't. Loud music everywhere got annoying.
Location: We never left the resort and we didn't see everything there was to see in 5 days there.
We just got back from Sandos yesterday. I've read a number of poor reviews, but our experience was great. We reserved a Junior Suite with a jacuzzi on the balcony when we arrived (Feb 15) we were upgraded to a junior suite in the superior elite section. The room was lovely with a nice South-east facing balcony overlooking the main pool. We appreciated the water cooler in the room, the A/C was good, room was clean. Complaints about the beds are warranted. The king sized bed in our room was definitely not to our liking, but we never like any bed in any hotel. Our room had Wifi because we were right beside the internet room. The grounds are immaculate. Loved exploring the paths through the rainforest. The ruins on site were interesting to explore and my husband and I took some paths that were off the beaten track to discover more that are not on the main roads. The beach is rocky, but we enjoyed it anyway. We snorkeled off the break as well as in the cenote, which was amazing. The food was above average for buffet. We had two al a carte meals and found we enjoyed the buffet more. The Mediterranean restaurant is beautiful for scenery. We found the service to be mediocre with a few exceptions. It was adequate. We always tip at all inclusives, but the staff seemed surprised when we did. We didn't see many others tipping. We spent a lot of time sitting at the snack bar. The soft serve ice cream made it a popular place to visit. One complaint- loud music at all the pools.

Beware of vacation club promotionsPosted Feb 19, 2014
Pros: Very clean. Lots of animals, monkeys raccoons etc. Adult pool. Bar wait staff came by almost every 5-10 minutes.
Overall the resort was quite impressive. Facilities were clean and the food was good, except somewhat repetitive. Disappointed by the beach. Dry part was great and well kept, but very rocky in the water. Resorts south of Playa have better beaches. The hotel is VERY focused on vacation club promotion. We didn't realize how much until after a week there we could tell the whole check in procedure is geared toward getting people into their presentation. The welcome gift comes with a price. It is cleverly disguised so just be aware.
