'paris' in ROCPosted Aug 15, 2014
Pros: convenience of facilities, GREAT, large, bright room, big comfortable beds, without exception the STAFF of this hotel AND CHAR restaurant.
Cons: price, but you get what you pay for. handicap shwr in our rm. had low sill, short curtain so water poured out onto bathrm floor
Location: uncrowded urban area, estates on large green lots, downtown, eastman house & gardens nearby
recently travelled to ROC for a memorial service, held at Geo. Eastman house, and found online a nearby hotel, the strathallen. made rsv. via expedia, only king available, but submitted a request for 2 queens (traveling w/a family member). upon hotel arrival was greeted by complimentary valet and found the hotel facility to be of the highest calibre yet approachable and comfortable, an oasis in an average urban environment. pleasantly surprised on check in (as we were handed warm chocolate chip cookies) to find we had scored a queen room, which was a lovely, large suite very bright with 2 patios and all the amenities. we went down for dinner at the hotel restaurant, the char steak house, where the cocktails were at par with the best big city bars and in spite of the name, a vegetarian could have an excellent dinner with the chef creating an excellent pasta dish on the fly. won't hide the fact that it was not a deal, pricewise, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and impressive yet understated (for upstate NY) facilities made it a value and an experience we would love to have again!

Best stay everPosted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: the restaurant, "Char" and everyone working there
Cons: very little
Location: the hotel is very close to all things "hip" in Rochester
The Stathallan was recommended for my short overnight in Rochester. I called for a ride from the airport to the hotel and a most curtious driver showed up and wisked me to the hotel. Checked in to find a 4th floor room facing the street with a generous balcony overlooking a beautiful tree lined street. Had a delicious dinner at the bar, crisp calamari and mushrooms, a first rate Cabernet, and fell blissfully asleep, only to wake up refreshed from my stay, have a quick breakfast of oatmeal and coffee and went off to my meeting by the hotel shuttle. The fact that the hotel has been refurbished to present a more contemporary face joins older hotel luxury scaled rooms to contemporary design - a delight indeed.

Pleasant hotel close to downtown Rochester.Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: Location, comfort of bed, room is a good size, bathroom is clean, nice toiletries from Crabtree and Evelyn.
Cons: When other guests, especially those staying at the hotel in groups, begin to party, it can get a bit noisy.
Location: Close to the George Eastman House and Park Avenue. Within walking distance of Eastman School of Music.
Hotel is in a convenient location. Plenty of free parking for hotel guests. Late check in was accommodated in a friendly and helpful way. Staff were polite and pleasant.

QOTSA @ The ArmoryPosted Jul 26, 2014
Nice place overall in a very nice area of Rochester. Frendly and helpful staff. Bathroom a bit bizarre; vast but with no hook or table by shower to put towel/toiletries.

Stayed with my daughter for her birthday. Swam in the pool, which is small, but nice enough. Room was lovely clean and modern. Elevators were slow so we took the stairs. lobby and lounge are beautiful. Enjoyed are complimentary cookies before bed that evening after walking around Alevander street and enjoying the eclectic bars and restaurants in the area!

Pros: Nice rooms, Staff was helpful
The shower was lukewarm and although there was and attempt to fix I ultimately had to be transferred to another room.

Fresh appearance and attractive facilities for an in-town hotel. Boutique-feel with Hilton chain consistency. Cool vibe in the bar. The three seating areas with fire pits were a nice touch. Rooftop area has great potential. Great breakfast in restaurant with outdoor seating was nice (in the summer). Exercise room and indoor pool were new but nothing special. Massage room was a positive offering. Hot tubs would be a good addition.

Nice hotelPosted Jun 24, 2014 on Hotels.com
Romm was nice, hotel is in a great location. Only problem it was noisy. doors slamming. could hear people talking, the walls must have been very thin. Also you would think they would leave the fire pit on while the bar was open. With approx 20 people outside enjoying the evening and their drinks it could have been left on until 1/2 hour before closing.

Fabulous BEDS and SERVICEPosted Jun 13, 2014 on Hotels.com
We stayed here for my brother's graduation from the University of Rochester business school. Convenient to the university in a delightful neighborhood with a lot of great restaurants. Pakring and concierge staff were outstanding and the food in the bar and restaurant was good. The warm chocolate chip cookies on check-in are a nice touch. Would definitely stay here again.
