“Good airport hotel”
We flew in from Sicily around 2pm and needed a place to stay overnight for an early morning flight to the States. We chose the Best Western--- a 15 minute cab ride and located one short block from the beach. The hotel was fine. It was great having free internet, and even though the shower was small, it was larger than the one in Sicily! The best part though, was the beach. Luckily, it was a beautiful day, so we walked to the beach and sat at the quaint little beach bar, sipping cheap wine, listening to Reggae music and enjoying our last day in Italy. The area is not upper-class, but one where locals hang out.
We asked the front desk for a restaurant recommendation and decided on GastOne, which was the closest one to the hotel. I ordered their sea bass with eggplant and pesto, which came surrounded with freshly fried thin potato chips. I have to say that this dish was the best fish I had in our 10 days in Rome and Sicily! We had been trying tiramisu wherever we could and were so disappointed that it wasn't on the dessert list. However, when we asked the waiter about dessert, he said not to follow the menu, as the desserts change daily. And guess what! They had tiramisu! I felt it was the best one of the trip. It was a fantastic meal and a great way to end our trip.
If you're OK with a local, 2 or 3 star area, this is a nice spot. You'll need to overlook the trash on the streets, but the beach appeared clean. If you want something closer to the airport, try the Hilton.
