“it was okay but I would not stay there again”

Nice hotel but room was small and elevator was tiny. Trying to get luggage up to room was hard. Also bar was silly and closed to early. Breakfast was great but way too much going on while we were trying to eat. It was a free for all instead of a nice start to the day.

“Nicest Roma Experience, near Metro and Termini”

The only thing to consider is Via Villafranca is only a block street, so it's difficult to find it in the maps, but once you get there, only 5 streets from Termini and you have access to all public transportation you will need.

Area recommendations
Trastevere, nice trattorias, good food and smalls streests make a nice view with all the shops of handcrafts.
Must see
Città del Vaticano is something everyone should visit, for the cultural aserve and the capital of cristianity it represents. Also el FORO ROMANO and COLOSSEUM are millenium histories by the hand with a lot of stories to hear about.

“Loved Roma and will stay here again!!”

This hotel was perfect. We chose this hoping for a clean, decent place that was a value for the money. We got what we wanted and more. We had everything we needed, breakfast, nice room, wonderful staff that spoke english and where extremely helpful and the location was ideal - two blocks from a metro stop and 15 minute walk to Termini station. The room was lovely, but small as they tend to be in Europe and the street was noisy - welcome to Rome. I don't think there IS a quite street! This area is very accessable for getting around and is an okay area to be walking in at night. Overall my friend and I (two women) felt very welcome and safe at this hotel and location. There was a very nice restaurant across the street and several in the area. There is a laundromat with internet access just 1 1/2 blocks away as well as several ATMs in the area. If you are like us and don't plan to spend your days in the hotel but want a clean, safe place that meets your basic needs, this place is perfect.

Area recommendations
Roma is beutiful and there is SO much to see and do. Just walking around or sitting in a cafe is fun. Get a good travel book and choose which neighborhoods to visit based on your interests. Like art? See the vatican and Villa Borghesi. Like architecture? Colesseum and the many churches are amazing. Want to people watch? Navona piazza! There is so much to see and do you cannot possible cover it in a review - get yourself a good travel guide!
When to go
We went to Roma from Nov 8 - 18. It is the begining of the rainy season so bring an umbrella but it's not miserable cold. You may get wet, but shouldn't be freezing! The bonus - no crowds! We waited 15 minutes to get into the colosseum on a Sunday morning. The Sistine Chapel was not even half full of people and the Terme de Caraccalla was empty! This is a great time of year if you can deal with a little rain because the crowds are gone. It's also the weekend of their art festivals in both Roma and Florence.

“Happy with Villafranca”

The three of us stayed at the Best Western Villafranca for three nights. Pleasant staff at the front desk. The room was comfortable and clean. Unfortunately no WiFi and the breakfast room was a bit small for the number of guests in the hotel. As for the location ... within walking distance to the train station and many great restaurants.

“For young couples--pick a different location”

The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was great. The breakfast staff was very helpful and the reason, I believe, this hotel has a 4 star rating. The rest of the hotel -- NOT 4 star. I did not think the front desk was helpful and the room was extremely small (the worst I have seen in all my european travels--my family all lives in Europe so travel there quite regularly). It was convenient to the trains and the metro, but there was nothing else in that neighborhood. For young travelers (we are a couple in our early 30s) I would not recommend this location. I loved Rome, but would definately pick a different location next time around. You can find just as nice of places in areas that you would much rather be in for similar prices.

Area recommendations
Piazza Navona -- better for young couples, more restauarants and things to do in the evening

“Basic”

The tub doesn't drain and you have to pay 18 euro a day for TV and Internet. The A/C was broken and in spite of several requests, no one fixed it. The pizza place right next door is great and cheap. Its an ok location, but I would go somewhere else the next time I go to Rome.

Area recommendations
Come to San Francisco. Its the best city on Earth.

“Great value for a fine hotel 7 minutes walking from Roma Termini”

Nice hotel! Good location, comfortable room and bed, generous breakfast. The fake parquet flooring in the rooms (a la IKEA) is quite tacky though and was warped. Great value overall, would definitely stay here again. The one negative, I wish the front desk staff smiled or said hello or booh or baah or anything - they were just so indifferent and disengaged.

“Outstanding hotel for this price range.”

Best hotel experience in this price range in all my travels to Europe. Decent size room, modern accessories, full breakfast buffet including eggs, cereals, cheeses, variety of breads etc.,, air conditioned, 2 elevators, TV and more. Staff very helpful. Ask at the desk for any help you need - how to get to anywhere, where the nearest supermarket (2 minutes). Location is 8 minute walk to Termini rail station. A Metro station is about 3 minutes . Bus #492 which goes to most of the main tourist sites is 2 minutes. All in all this was a great value. Particularly nice was the fact that we could easily return to the hotel for a rest in the afternoon before going out for the evening. Very important in the heat of a Rome summer. Buy a 3 day Roma Pass if you plan to visit the Coliseum - it allows you to pass the long lines.

Area recommendations
This is our third stay in the area of Termini. We chose it for concenience and hotel value.
Getting there
Highly recommend using an airport shuttle service from airport to hotel. It cost us 37 Euro for 3 people. On the way back to the airport we took the train - Leonardo Express. It was a disaster. Overcrowded, no air conditioning, no room for the suitcases and it cost about the same. We had a similiar experience using the regional train service to the cruise port at Civitichecchia. I you take the train to the port use the Intercity service, not the reional.

“great location convenient to train station”

I picked the Best Western Hotel Villafranca in Rome based on the proximity to the main train station, the chain affiliation, and the price. The hotel is about 4-5 blocks away from the train station and is convenient to most sites. It has a rather small front entrance and if you aren't careful you might miss the small Best Western sign. It helped to look on Google Maps to get a preview of the front entrance. Everyone on the hotel staff I dealt with spoke English. The front desk helped me out on a few occasions. The room rate was very reasonable, and it had a working AC unit (very important during my July visit!). The one downside of the room was the shower, it was a small corner stall with 2 overlapping doors with the opening in the corner of the stall. I think some larger people would have a problem trying to use this shower. The breakfast buffet was good, lots of variety with eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, cereal, breads, coffee, juice, and so on. There are a few resaurants and eateries within easy walking distance to the hotel. Overall I felt I got good value for my money.

Area recommendations
I felt this area slightly northeast of the Rome train station was a good compromise between cost and convenience. Hotels in between the station and the Vatican (for example near the Pantheon) are ideal for quick access to tourist sites, but were either not available or too expensive for me. I only use a hotel room as "home base" and to sleep so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a hotel.
Getting around
Almost all of the time in Rome, I walked. I only took a taxi once and that was to get to a morning tour on time. I never used the bu or Metro but I'm sure those are fine alternatives to walking.
Other
Be careful of your belongings. I used a money belt and a leg stash. Also I bought a camera that is easily pocketable. Remember that most churches will not let you enter unless you have your shoulders and knees covered (both guys and gals).
