“very nice”
This hotel was great. The street behind the hotel was a nice neighborhood with excellent restaurants. The location was great, subway, trains and many of the sights. The help went above and beyond, they even helped out for a reservation at a museum in Florence. Rooms are clean. Try to face the back it can be noisy.
“Great Location, mediocre accommodations, staff better suited for Paris”
While the location was central to the heart of Rome the accommodations where at best mediocre. All but one of the outlets in our room didn't work. When I asked the staff to check the outlets they told me that I didn't have the correct adapter. When I showed them that the outlets themselves were physically broken they shrugged their shoulders and left the room. We were there for 7 days. We had to charged our phones and computers in the bathroom or unplug the TV and use that outlet. Needing a taxi I called the front desk and asked them to call or hail a taxi. They told me to go out in the street and flag one down. I called the front desk and asked them for an ironing board. They told me...are you ready for this....that Italians don't use irons. Funny thing is that we stayed around the corner last year at the Hotel Quarnale (strongly recommend you stay at that hotel) and the Quarnale provided whatever we asked for. The room we stayed in while clean was not up to standard; the staff at the Hotel Grand Palatino was not accommodating and made no effort to make our stay more comfortable; they staff, while not unfriendly, certainly was did not go out of their way to make our stay comfortable. I would not recommend this hotel. I would strongly recommend the Hotel Quarnale on Via Nazionale.
“Just ok”
Not the greatest, but 5 minutes from the Colisseum and the metro. We were given a room for handicapped people. The good thing is that we rarely spent any time in the hotel. It is on a very busy street.
“Gem in Rome”
The Grand Hotel Palatino in Rome was an excellant choice for our stay. It was convenient to transportation and the location was excellant. We stayed in a non smoking Executive Double the room was very comfortable and modern. We were impressed with the service at the Hotel, when we first arrived our tube drain would not open. We notified the front desk and by the time we rode the elevator to the room it was taken care of. The overall atmosphere was friendly and helpful. We also went on a tour of the Vatican through Appian Way tour arranged by Expedia there facility is within walking distance of the hotel The next time we go to Rome we will definitely stay there again.
“good hotel”
Palatino hotel was overall good. The rooms were of decent size and pretty clean. Maintenence was good. Breakfast buffet really good. Charged a lot for internet access even with own laptop - use the internet cafe next door as very reasonable. Hotel staff were not that helpful. They were not eager to help. They told us to take the bus to Vatican (as the best way to get there). It took us almost an hour. We found out later there was a subway stop right next to the hotel which only took us 30 mins. Location was convenient - colosseum was right across the hotel and everything except Vatican was within 10-20 mins walking distance. Plenty of restuarants near the hotel - Italian, Chinese, Indian.
“A Fine Hotel”
This is a fine well run hotel. It is large and there are groups of tourists coming and going but they manage it all very well. It has no particular "warmth" but we found that typical of the service industry in Italy. The location is outstanding for getting in and out of town - right by the subway and close to the train station with a train to the airport. It is very convienient to all of the ancient ruins. It is not convienient to the Pantheon area which is billed as the "heart of Rome" and probably has better restaurants and night life.
“What a disappointment!”
The hotel we stayed at bore no resemblance to the one we had read about in reviews. We had two rooms, both of which were small and never got cool enough for our tastes. One had a faulty door lock. It took three trips back and forth to the front desk (where we were treated in a snobby and condescending manner) before they acknowledged that there was a problem with their door and not with our ability to put the card in it correctly. Their fix lasted for two days. After that we had to line up the lock just right or the card wouldn't work. The front desk generally treated any and all questions with disdain, even giving misinformation (deliberately?) about certain activities I had asked about, sending us off on a wild goose chase in 95 degree heat. Yes, there's satellite television in the rooms - but only two or three channels in English. And in this day and age, free wi-fi in the rooms would be a nice competitive touch. The breakfast buffet was anemic by any standards. While the hotel is located near a Metro stop, we found the subway system to be rudimentary and the hotel's locale to be pretty isolated. Two family members did not feel safe on the side streets after dark. And while some of the neighborhood restaurants were decent (the family all liked Gallo Matto down the block), we couldn't find any that we considered to be at all upscale.
“Great location near metro and coliseum.”
The hotel has a great location near the metro and one stop from the main train/metro station. The hotel is also within walking distance from the coliseum. We stayed in June and the only issue we had was that the thermostats in the rooms don't work because the hotel controls the air conditioning and it is very warm and muggy at times.
“In the heart of Roma”
Centrally located that allowed us to get to all the sites in Rome on foot. Colosseum, metro, Palantina, Forum, San Maria Maggiore Basilica all within 2-3 blocks of the hotel. Nearby restaurants, down the small side streets, were all great. Restaurant downstairs was ok. The included breakfast was good. Room was good. The marble shower room was immense and brand new looking. Big LCD screen.
“nice place”
My only quibble would be that the restaurant did not open until 6:30am, which made it tough to eat breakfast before leaving for long day trips and flight out. But everything else was great.
