Wonderful staff.Posted Dec 3, 2013
Pros: The staff and location.
Cons: Breakfast pasties were not varied enough from day to day.
Location: Near forum, coliseum, circus Maximus, metro station.
We have sayed at the Kolbe several times. We love the location and they have a wonderful staff. Ask for a room on the garden side, it will be much quieter than the street side. The rooms are comfortable. Although this time our shower spray kept falling down. It was a rather small shower too and did not seem to drain very fast. Everything else was very good. We got our wake up calls when we needed them and our driver to the airport was prompt. The hotel is near the forum, coliseum, and circus Maximus. Also the metro station.

Perfect for familiesPosted Dec 2, 2013
Pros: The onsite breakfast was excellent, hot, & plentiful. The staff- from front desk, to dining & cleaning staff were 5 star. Lounge & outdoor courtyard.
Cons: The bed & floor in our loft was very squeaky but the kids won't mind as much as the adults.
Location: The hotel is located immediately adjacent to ruins, ancient churches, & close to Circus Maximus.
We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is less noisy than those located in the heart of the hustle-bustle but close enough to walk to anywhere in the area Coliseum, Circus Maximus, Forum, etc. Taxi, or bus tours available at the front desk. Taxi rides to most attractions like The Vatican, Castel San Angelo, & the train termini range from 11 to 16 Euros or about 10 mins. The speed trains to other cities are clean & easy. Don't be intimidated if you don't speak Italian, most people try to speak many languages. The experience is unforgettable.

Nice hotel, some design flawsPosted Oct 24, 2013
Pros: Large rooms, many pillows, nice bed linens, roomy bathroom
Cons: Window shades and shower design. Also bath mats are essential if you're going to step on a wet granite floor.
Nice breakfast, helpful staff, roomy facilities. One major design flaw that should be corrected: the drapes and blackout curtains in our room are mounted in front of the only heat/ac vent in the room. So if you hope to get air out of the system, you'll have to fold back the draperies and secure them in the window well so that air can move out into the room. This is a design flaw by the people who decorated. The black out curtains could easily be shortened and moved back to the inside of the window well, so they don't block the vent. If you want blackout, you sacrifice air. Same issue in the bathroom. The shower/faucet combo in needlessly complicated. A simple shower handle and one control for the water temp would suffice. The first time my husband used the shower, the handle fell off and water went everywhere before he got it under control. I don't understand why Euro showers have to be so complicated, and why they never put a fully closing door panel on the showers. The glass isn't wide enough to stop water from getting all over the bathroom.

Perfect position to explorePosted Oct 20, 2013
It was a lovely hotel, with a great position. A stone throw away from the back of the forum and it served great food, in fact I had the best steak I've ever tasted :)

Despite being in heart of Rome and its bustle, it was refreshingly quiet. A first class experience.

Excellent findPosted Sep 5, 2013
We stayed here for 6 nights and the staff made us feel right at home. It is remarkably close to a number of major sights in Rome. The hotel is clean, quaint, and even has a bit of history which adds to its character. The breakfast buffet was a plus, and it was the closest thing you will find to an American breakfast in Rome. If you dine at the restaurant, be sure to ask for Alessa. She was the best server I've had in years! Everyone was very friendly and courteous. We miss it already.
