Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese

"Super clean, super comfy and super friendly"
We stayed at the Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese for four nights in June 2014. Upon arrival, we were quickly and very politely greeted by hotel staff. The doorman took our bags for us immediately, and the overall check-in process was fast and smooth. The room was very comfortable and clean, and the housekeeping staff checked on us daily to ask if everything was up to par. Our room overlooked Via Lombardia but it is a very quiet street so there was no noise to complain of. The hotel itself was also very quiet so no trouble sleeping at night. Breakfast was not included in our package but much to our pleasant surprise, there was a table set up outside the breakfast dining room with a complimentary "breakfast on the go" -- fresh croissants and fruit, along with little to-go bags -- which we took advantage of each day. The location of the hotel is in a very nice area of Rome. It is just a short block or two off of Via Veneto and only about a 5 or 10 minute walk to the Spanish Steps. It is also about a 5-minute walk from Villa Borghese.

"A little extra walking for a good value hotel."
We arrived at the hotel early, so we dropped off our bags, and the hotel staff stored them safely until the room was ready, then placed the luggage in the room for us. The room was clean, with nice decor and plenty of space. Breakfast was offered, although we didn't take advantage of it, so cannot comment on the quality. The hotel is in a great location, close to Lepanto Metro station, 10 mins walk to Castel Sant Angelo and about 15-20 mins walk from the Vatican. I recommend buying a tourist ticket for the metro. €16.50 for three days worth of metro, bus, and local train transport. The Metro is very limited in Rome, so if you don't like to walk, the bus will be a saviour for you! Check out was smooth, but be advised that the tourist tax imposed by the city of Rome is not included in your rates, so you'll pay €2 per person per night upon checkout. Another top tip: A taxi from Ciampino airport is about €55, and some taxis charge extra for suitcases! We booked a chauffeur-driven car in advance. It was €40 each way, and we were met at arrivals by a driver in a suit with an iPad with our names on, who led us to a black Mercedes E Class, turned up the AC, and whisked us to our destination. Great service. We used Blacklane Limos. They have an iPhone app, which allows you to book and track your trip, and sends you a notification when your driver has arrived. Massively recommended. They're available in tons of major cities.
