Really nice hotel in north endPosted Feb 25, 2014
Stayed here for 4 nights in Feb 2014. Hotel was in a great location just outside the Piazza Popolo entrance on via Flaminio. The room was much smaller compared to North American standards as there's just enough room for 2 single beds a desk and you luggage. The bathroom was European size with a 2x2 shower, sink, toilet and bidet. The hotel was solid and quite. The main street outside the front door is Via Flaminio which not a main thoroughfare and is basically dedicated to the north-end rail/street car. You will hear the street car go by, however even with window open all night, it will not keep you up. They provide a really nice breakfast buffet every morning. At night there is a happy hour in a spacious lounge where you can relax at the end of the day. Great access to Metro, north end rail car and buses. Good walking to most of the north end sites, Vatican and shopping on the 3 streets leading to the piazza. You can take the 117 (circle route) from the Piazza Popolo to the south end sites around the Coliseum and Forum. The Villa Borghese is a large park just up the hill where you can go to get some peace and quiet or have a picnic after a day of sight seeing. I do recommend and would stay there again.

Rome Rugby ReunionPosted Feb 25, 2014
What a great find this hotel was. Trawling through the internet price/review comparison websites, fearing for my sanity, I came across the River Palace Hotel and was attracted by the photo sets of the hotel interior; location and price. In the event, the photographs did justice to a well-appointed hotel and the location was perfect for sightseeing traditional areas of the old city and walking to and from the Rugby at the Stadio Olympico (should rugby return to Via Flaminia in due course, it will be even better…). Price too was a pleasant surprise, given the nightly, 4 hour "happy hour" with half price drinks, a complimentary selection of savouries and sandwiches, extensive buffet breakfast (with Prosecco..), free wi-fi access, complimentary pc and printer use if required, newspapers (National) and several other small, pleasant, gratis touches. Turning to the staff, from entering the hotel (external appearance is the sole factor which could be improved..) guests are greeted with smiling, cheerful, helpful, attentive staff. Concierges are fluent in English, patient and anticipate needs. Porters are less fluent, but equally willing and cheerful as are breakfast room staff and barmen. The chambermaid service deserves special mention: thorough, efficient and uncannily unobtrusive… Overall, even had Scotland not wrested last gasp victory, this would have been a special, super long weekend.

4 nights in RomePosted Feb 25, 2014
Pros: Excellent friendly and accommodating staff. Good breakfast sets you up for a good days walking.
Cons: Nothing that I can think of.
Location: The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Piazza del Popolo which is at the top of the main street, Via del Corso, leading to The Victor Emanuel Monument.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay visiting all the major sites on foot. Be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes!

Great LocationPosted Feb 7, 2014
Pros: Great location and very helpful staff, very clean and all mod cons.
Cons: The room was squashed but we weren't in it much, so it didn't really matter.
Location: Its within walking distance of all the major attractions, 30 mins to the Forum, 30 mins to St Peters, 10 minutes to the Spanish steps etc
The hotel is situated in a fantastic location within walking distance of all the major attractions and very close to all the shops and transport links. The staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you and let us check in early, leave our bags and head out. The bar staff were exceptional and the happy hour (6-10pm) was very welcome after a hard days sightseeing

Great central location, room a little crampedPosted Feb 4, 2014
Very good value for a centrally located hotel in Rome - pretty much everything within walking distance. Room was a little small for two people - basically a single room with a double bed. Good breakfast and service though.
