Good for a short business trip, good local pizza!

Pros: Staff were very friendly, especially the older gentleman who greeted me when I arrived.
Cons: The location, slightly uncomfortable bed, off-putting smell of cigarettes and cleaning chemicals.
Location: 12 minutes via Metro from Termini on the B-line. Nothing special about the area except the Basilica San Paolo. A bit rough around the edges.
I stayed here for 4 nights during a conference. It's a convenient location, right next to the Metro B line (the station is Basilica San Paolo), which offers a 12 minute journey right to Termini in the center of the city for EUR 1.50. The staff were very helpful. My Italian is almost non-existent, and I didn't have time to learn as much as I think I should have. Thus I relied on the staff's English, which is perfectly adequate for conducting business like checking in and breakfast. My room (no. 22) was in an adjoining building, which was a little odd. Any time I wanted to go for breakfast or to reception I had to schlep all the way round the outside of the building. This included going through a locked gate, which can only be unlocked by buzzing reception and asking to get through (they don't give you a key, for no obvious reason). This is a little bit tedious (especially considering the buildings are physically adjoining, with apparently connected roof terraces), but I didn't find it to be a major annoyance. The room was clean, ample in size, if a bit stale smelling - I think it was a smoking room, though they'd done their best with air freshener. The bed was a bit hard, but comfortable enough for a few nights. You will hear metro trains most of the day, but they are not very loud at all, nothing that would wake you. This hotel wouldn't be my first choice for a holiday in Rome (the area is a little insalubrious), but perfect for my purposes. Great local pizzeria!
