“Roman Holiday”
Sofitel Villa Borghese was everything we expected and more. The staff is excellent, and so helpful. Maria suggested a great restaurant, San Marco, her and Monica arranged our train to Milan and answered many other querries. The location is in a great neighboorhood, with a beautiful & historic park at our feet. Many sites & restaurants in walking distance, including a great deli barely one block away. Two metro stations within walking distance & the 116 bus line will take you almost everywhere on your to see list. Our room was so comfortable, as well as our bed, and the pillows(they have a pillow menu)!! I great location if you want to be close to everything, yet tucked away from the hustle & bustle of the city!
“Great location, good value”
Location is excellent - off Via Veneto and close to Villa Borghese. Walking distance from the Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain and the Pantheon. Stylish terrace bar and restaurant (though overpriced). Excellent unobtrusive service at the bar/restaurant, front desk and maid service.
“Magnifico!”
Wow! This hotel was not only beautiful with tons of Italian charm, but it was also modern and 'up-to-date' by any standards. It's luxurious but not ridiculously pretentious, like you find too often in the States. They also have different styles of rooms and some have balconies - so ask when you book. All the windows open for fresh air, which is a nice feature. It's in a quiet location that is just off the beaten path, so it feels very private and exclusive. The rooms and baths are super-spacious, showers are as hot as you want them, and the beds are amazing - the mattress has a feather-bed top layer, and a selection of pillows! The rooms have all the features you could want - refridgerators, safes, flat-screen TVs, tons of storage, room service, internet, and fabulous bathrobes! However, I would suggest that if you need a morning wake-up call, you might want to set an alarm on your cell phone or whatever, just to make sure you get woken up when you need to be! If you travel often for business or pleasure, and you're used to higher-end accommodations, I would highly recommend the Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese.
“Bargain if you don't want to pay high prices”
The Villa Borghese is off the stylish Via Veneto shopping area - 2 blocks away. The area is safe and nice. There are nicer hotels on Via Veneto, however - Regina Bagnoli, the Excelsior for example. I would categorize this one as a bit older and dated. With that said, the prices were a bit better than those mentioned earlier. There is a restaurant on the 7th floor with amazing views of the city and St. Peter's. The brunch is costly, and the a la carte breakfast menu lacks I would recommend breakfast at one of Via Veneto's many cafe's or restaurants,
“Beautiful, comfortable hotel”
beautiful, roomy, clean and excellent rooftop view of the city!
“ROMA!”
Great hotel and staff. Friendly, and helpful. Room was great except for the design of the shower/tub/door. The swinging door did not provide a great seal against the tub, so when showering water would leak out on the floor. Not a big deal, but def would not install such a shower in our home. Can't wait to go back!
“wonderful hotel and service”
We arrived around noon, but were able to check in to the hotel which was wonderful after 20 hours of travel. Everyone from the check in staff, to the bartenders to the housekeepers went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Luigi, one of the doormen was great and had great ideas for places to eat, and just ALWAYS had a smile on his face! The hotel was undergoing a face lift during our stay, so we did have to step over painters and construction staff daily, but it was only a small inconvience. The hotel is within easy walking distance to a lot of great shopping, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Take good walking shoes because the streets are cobble and uneven. The Vatican and Pantheon are just a bit further, but a very easy and interesting walk. The open air bus tour, 12 Euros was a great way to get acclimated to the area. Be sure to keep coins available, as some toilets require money, usually 1 euro, especially in Florence. If you are going to the Vatican, it is worth the additional money to get a guided tour. The groups are smaller and you pass up the lines, which was 2 hours when we were there. The hotel was great and in a quiter area of town, next door to a beautiful area of green space, but close to walk to anything you would want. We felt safe in the area and enjoyed the peacfulness of the location after spending time within the busy city. Would go back in a heart beat!!
“Lovely and Transporting -- Sofitel Villa Borghese is a Wonderful Hotel”
Sofitel Villa Borghese is a lovely place that transported us completely -- in a single day -- from the cares of our frenetic lives to absolute relaxation and happiness. Located three blocks off the bustling Via Veneto, it is a quiet and lush oasis where our needs were met with great attention to detail and genuine friendliness. We were treated beautifully on our four night stay in June 2011, and cannot thank Mr. De Cesare and Luca enough for all their courtesies. We will be back!
“Could not ask for more!”
Definitely a five star hotel. Stayed in a hotel in Florence and Venice after this and neither came close to this one. Before you step in you are warmly welcomed by staff at the entrance. Then as soon as you step in, every single staff member greets you with a big sincere smile. Every single detail of this hotel is just beautiful including the most wonderful fragrance! All staff was super friendly and helpful, went out of way to please us! Beautiful surroundings and most wonderful view from rooftop bar. Free wifi and bottled water.
“Comfortable, but....”
After a full week of traveling around Italy, it was nice to stay in a hotel in Rome with such a beautiful view and comfortable room. The deep bathtub was nice. We had two issues with this hotel: the location - in April, none of those hop on hop off busses ran to this neighborhood and ended up trekking down the hill to reach most attractions or the metro. Not bad in the morning, but after 10 hour days of touring, we grew tired of trekking up the huge hill to get back to our hotel, so we wished we had stayed somewhere more central. Also, we don't mind paying for breakfast in a hotel, but the buffet they had was way overpriced and didn't really allow for you to just go catch something light and less expensive. We also wanted to have dinner at the rooftop restaurant, but felt that 105 Euro per person fixed price on Easter weekend was ridiculous. The selection of walk up eateries in the area was ample, but those restaurants did not have the ambience of those in central Rome. Stay here for the comforts and service. It was great...but be prepared for the 5 star prices and that huge trek up the hill after many days of touring.
