Wonderful ambiance, but needs better mattressesPosted Jan 29, 2015
Pros: The atmosphere and the lovely complementary breakfast
Cons: New mattresses, please!
Location: Right in the heart of Old Town Sacramento near the Railroad Museum
Like stepping back into time - beautiful old steamboat and lovely dining facilities. BUT, the mattress was old and lumpy, which is just not going to get rave reviews from me. Come on, people, get new, nice mattresses!

Such a lovely historic get away!Posted Jan 20, 2015
Truly a GEM of a hotel! Super friendly check-in staff. Neat little slice of history. Delicious restaurant. Worth every penny to stay here. So close to EVERYTHING we wanted to do in old Sac. I plan to stay longer next time.

Enjoyed convenient location in Old SacramentoPosted Jan 16, 2015
Pros: Location, staff
Cons: Breakfast quality and selection, removing extra person charge and informing people about parking.
we were disappointed that no one informed us about parking and cost ($22/day valet). The breakfast menu was mediocre, could use more options. We had fun in Old Sac and enjoyed walking to local establishments. Probably would not stay here again, but it was ok for this trip.

Great alternative to traditional hotelsPosted Jan 13, 2015
Pros: Value - I thought it was underpriced Location Can have a nice dinner and drinks without leaving the DK Character Safe
Location: TheDK is in Old Sac.Lots of novelty stores, historical sites, boutique shops, restaurants, train museum, close to AAA baseball, downtown sac & shopping
This hotel has history, from the pull chain commode to the paddle wheel. You can feel subtle movements as it is at port on the delta. After staying in so many traditional hotels, this was a nice change. I liked seeing the water and the delta breeze. The staff is wonderful. And, even if you are not staying there, have a great dinner (good wine list) and don't forget to stop by the bar for a cocktail!

Loved it. My wife and I both enjoyed our stay. Stepping onto the boat is akin to stepping back in time. Nice period correct touches throughout. The rooms are small but nicely appointed and very clean. Will definitely be going back.

Great experiencePosted Dec 31, 2014
Pros: Restaurant and bar service and offerings were very good.
Location: Lots to do and see in Oldtown Sacramento
Room was clean and quaint, it not a little cramped. Bathroom looked like new, except for the quaint, 1923 sink, commode and faucets . Shower was new and quite comfortable. Door was original, letting in a fair amount of cold river breeze. Room heat and TV worked well.

More fun than a regular hotelPosted Dec 23, 2014
Pros: It's character, location and the excellent meals in the bar/grill restaurant.
Location: There was plenty to do in the Old Town. The Amtrack train station was an easy 10 minute walk. It was a $30 taxi ride from the airport.
If you want 5 star luxury this is not for you. As you'd expect on an old paddle steamer the rooms were very compact and the bathroom tiny. But we had everything we needed and it was clean and comfortable. The free breakfast was plentiful for those who like cooked breakfast. But for those wanting a lighter breakfast there was an extra charge and little choice. Stepping off the boat into the heart od Old Sacramento was great, especially with all the Christmas decoration and Macy's light show. Our only comment is to be aware that the charges per room quoted, are for one person only. Even if you book a double room you are charged for the extra person. We have not met this before. We would choose to stay here again. It was great sitting right on the river.
