“Noisy, noisy, noisy!”
Had a nice clean downstairs room, other than what we believed to be some kind of critters in the beds. The noise from outside was totally beyond peaceful. It does sit close to a train station and there was construction going on as well. Really good Lennys next door. TV was quite possibly as old as I am. Lots of homeless people all around and panhandlers. It's California, however, and to be expected, I guess. Right across the fwy from Old Town.
“Sure Would of like to know”
Room was wonderful. Front desk not so friendly. Tractors working at 2 am in the morning with beep beep evertime they backed up very dissatisfied. Could not go back to sleep. Was a work site right across the street.
“Great Location for Old Sacramento”
Great location to see Old Sacramento.
“great value and hotel”
Great price, rooms, hot tub, free wi fi and an awesome breakfast. Can't beat that. Also a perfect location to Old Town.
“was not comfortable”
The coffee pot, stairs, halls were dirty; staff was not helpful; breakfast was meager. Neighborhood scary and run down.
“Best bet for downtown Sacramento”
The Vagabond Inn in downtown SAC cannot be beat for price and location. Rooms are adequate, staff is friendly and the free parking is a super bonus. You can park your car once and walk or take public transportation to everything (parking is expensive in SAC and the one-way streets can make you crazy). Old Sacramento is right next door with museums, sightseeing, shopping, live theatre, food; downtown mall is right across the street with major stores and movie theater; libraries and other historic sights all nearby. I am a repeat visitor and they seem to have made some improvements since I was there last (2010) - seemed cleaner and everything thing was working. With one exception - the in-room internet access. I was told they are working on that. They do have a "business center" you can use to access email, etc. Staff is all very friendly - from the front desk to the "breakfast lady" to housekeeping. Even the other guests will chat over the self-serve breakfast. People rave about the waffle makers! This is not a luxury hotel - nor is it priced like one. But for overall convenience and price it's a four star.
“Never Again”
On a 9 night vacation (1 night per hotel), this was by far the worst hotel we stayed in. In fact, upon arrival and check-in, I immediately cancelled my reservations for another night in this hotel 8 days later. The hotel property which is located downtown is over-run by the homeless. In the course of our 14 hour stay, we encountered no less than 4 homeless men on the property begging for money or cigerettes. Second complaint is that we had reserved a smoking room as the Expedia website states that smoking is permitted....it's not. Therefore as always following the rules, I smoked outside. No matter what time day or night, you could count on being approached for money (evem at 4am). Did not feel safe here at all. Final complaint is that the wife and our niece shared a queen size bed only to both waking up with bug bites all over them. Bedbugs or fleas, I don't know. I had the other queen bed, and did not have a problem. I would not stay here again. It's not a crack or hooker hotel, but there at better hotels at nearly the same price.
“Old Town Sac”
Our room was really close to the pool which was nice for the kids and when we asked for more towels, cause there was only 1 regular and 2 pool towels we got them right away.
“Across from the Amtrak station...but not the greatest.”
Very plain, dark rooms, no internet in the rooms, no real lobby. Breakfast was good. We had an early Amtrak connection to make and chose the hotel for this reason.
“Needs Major Upgrades”
I stayed at this hotel for a recent business trip in Sacremento. The hotel is centrally located near Old Sacramento, is only two blocks from thr K Street pedestrian walking area and is less than a mile from the state Capitol, which are pluses for this hotel. The price at the time was very competitive versus other nearby hotels, so I thought this had a good value and good location near where my meetings were. However, this hotel needs some maintenance and upgrades to be viable in an area where relatively new, better hotels are nearby. The hotel shuttle stops running after 9pm, something that is not made clear when booking, so I ended up having to use the SuperShuttle. The rooms are old, with old wallpaper, fading paint, difficult to reach outlets (especially when you need to plug in a cell charger or laptop!). In the room I stayed in, two lamps were out of order, the toilet broke down during my stay and the iron was leaking water, making it impossible to iron any clothes. The free continental breakfast was not very good at all. There are a number of homeless people that hang out on the streets by the hotel as it is right by the major interstates--so the area is not all that great. Until this hotel undergoes major renovations and changes its management, I would stay somewhere else, even at a higher price.
