This was a horrible hotel experience. I travel all over and have never stayed in a hotel like this. The heater was broken. The closet door was broken. I advised the staff and they did nothing. They charge additional fees to use there workout facilities. The free continental breakfast consisted of stale raisen bran, and fruit loops. The mirror in the bathroom had the words "bed bugs" written on it and showed up when the mirror fogged. Please consider staying somewhere else.

I'm sorry we weren't able to exceed you expectations on your recent stay. The heat is usually resolved by flipping a breaker and should have been an easy fix. As far as the Health Club goes, the only extra fees apply to the free weights room and tanning, and hotel guests get more than 50% off standard daily rates, the standard workout room is always free of charge to guests.

Surprising gem of a hotel

Posted Oct 14, 2014 on Hotels.com
My husband and I were coming through from a trip to Sault St.Marie. This hotel was wonderful - spacious, clean, and newly renovated. Only a couple of things I would improve on. One, definitely need more lighting in parking lot - very difficult to know how to get to the hotel itself since it is way in the back. Secondly, the continental breakfast could use some improvement. Other than that we ended up staying an extra day to relax and shop in Midland and Bay City. Great rate also!!!!

Nice hotel for bugs

Posted Oct 13, 2014
We opened the door expecting a nice first impression, that was my first mistake. The room smelled like they tried to cover up some smoke and mildew oder. My husband drew back the sheets on one of the beds and there was an auburn hair in it, my husband and kids are blondes and I am a brunette, was not our hair. Then after a swim in the pool area which is abnormally nicer than the rooms, my kids took a shower. My six year old comes out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel that has holes in it and someone else's butt stain on it. My husband said it had been washed but I think it should have been thrown away! A short while later I was passing by the sink outside the bathroom and there was a house centipede in the sink. They feed on other insects like spiders, bedbugs, termites, cockroaches, silverfish and ants. I tried to find a hotel with a pool for our annual family weekend and this is how it started. Never again!

I apologize for our recent shortcomings, but we do appreciate your recent stay and hope that you'll again choose us for future travel. I can assure that we do not have a chronic bug problem and that yours was likely a solitary incident. As for the towel, there is no excuse for that and Housekeeping has been notified. Thank you again.

We apologize for not meeting our standards for you. We are still in our infancy as a self-standing hotel and are working on updates and improvements every day. We hope you will return one day and note the (hopefully) positive changes.

Overall good, with a few strange features.

Posted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: Clean rooms, very quiet, personal service, very friendly staff. The swimming pool was well cared for and not crowded. No outside noise or disturbances
Cons: More signs in the entrance to tell you how to get there.
Location: While there were not many restaurants right there, there were many about 10 minutes away.
This hotel, while clean and quiet seemed like it was trying to keep itself a secret. It's tucked way back in a complex with only a small poorly lit sign to indicate it existed at all. The neighboring Best Western seemed to be hogging all the glory, and in fact, we were told we'd have to go there to check in. That was a little confusing. The girl at Best Western said the two hotels had been in some sort of a partnership and were in the process of separating. I hope, for the sake of Plaza Suites, that as part of the deal they get a large lighted sign. Our room was clean, and the desk people were all very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast was a little sparse, but what was there was fresh and fine. Overall, I'd say that if you're looking for a luxury resort, this isn't it, but as inexpensive hotels go, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one.

Other than perhaps needing to change out the pillows, it was a very good value and convenient for our needs.

Good location for us.

Posted Sep 28, 2014
Pros: Same as above.
Cons: The air conditioner was not working properly and because it was quite warm that particular weekend, the room was also warm.
Location: Great location for us as we attended the Midland Antique Show. It was very easy to find and get to, considering we are from Canada.
Our room was big, the beds were comfortable and it was great to have a fridge and microwave. The complimentary breakfast was lovely and there were many choices.
