“Perfect starting point for discovering the Loire Valley and its Castles!”

Extremely reasonable with clean neat facilities (their "shower," as in many places in France, is a hand-held shower in a tub, though) this is a great location from which to visit Blois, Chambord, Cheverny, and Beauregard. Just as in 2009, I started my trip in France by arriving here on a Sunday, when few restaurants are opened. The husband half of the nice couple who run Hotel le Verger, referred me to an incredible country restaurant a few villages down the road, Auberge du bon Terroir, with incredible French country cuisine, a must-find-must-dine restaurant!! Hotel le Verger and Auberge du bon Terroir were such an incredible beginning to my 2009 trip to France that I had to start my 2011 trip the same way, with the same wonderful results!

When to go
In 2009 I arrived July 4th Sunday. As my travel guide warned it is THE BUSIEST DAY to be driving as all of France seemingly is leaving for their summer holiday. However, the weather was PERFECT, with highs in the low 80's and night time lows in the 50's. Each night I would have to close the window. Each morning it would be cool enough for jeans and a denim jacket but would then warm up enough for shorts and teeshirt during the day. The sun also set at 10pm! In 2011 I arrived Labor Day Sunday. Much less crowded with shorter days and dusk arriving by 8pm. However, the weather was much the same, perhaps even warmer? I guess I am just blessed as in July of 2009 the weather was cooler than normal and in September of 2011, the weather was warmer than normal!
Dining
An INCREDIBLE restaurant, Auberge du bon Terroir in the village of Muides sur Loire, is a must-find-must-dine restaurant which, translated literally means The Inn of Good Soil because everything is made from local fresh produce… My first meal in France, both in 2009 and in 2011, were at this restaurant, as luckily for me it is one of the few restaurants open on Sunday (they however take Monday off instead). I learned in 2009 that dinner service begins at 7pm, but discovered in 2011 that they are still serving lunch at 2:30pm... using their same incredible dinner menu! Each time, it was an OMG meal, where each mouthful of each culinary piece of art the chef/owner brings out simply makes you smile all over it is so incredibly good!
