The atmosphere and landscaping looks really great. However, we couldn’t make reservations for dinner because they were always full, minutes after opening time. It was nearly impossible to get hot water in our villa so we took cold showers every night. Lastly, none of the bars would make any drinks without alcohol. For being “all inclusive” they only mean for people who drink alcohol. We stayed in a hotel in Praia that had burning hot water and was a fraction of the cost. I won’t be staying here again.

The property staff was not courteous nor helpful when I called ahead and told them I’d land early. Upon arrival, I had to wait 5 hours for an “early” check in. The food was not good. The redeeming quality is the beach.

WiFi is only available in the bar or pool area, not in room. Weak WiFi reception whenever it was available. Long wait time (2 hours) for dinner although reservation was made. You are required to make a dinner reservation however there was no availability to even make a reservation in advance as all restaurants were completely reserved. Housekeeping cleaning was incredibly poor. Trash was not taken out for days, small bugs crawling everywhere, same unclean sheets were being used to make the bed even though requested for new clean sheets. TV cable and phone service stopped working. There is an extra charge for pool/beach towels even with all inclusive. Overall a poor experience and one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at.

My stay
Food was good but not great and the staff (with a few exceptions) weren't the friendliest. They weren't rude but some had a demeanor like they didn't want to be there or you were putting them out. The WiFi was terrible.

Like all hotels there was good and bad..... but overall good value for a family of four: *Nice grounds, all buildings only 2 storey so felt homely and nice that there is a choice of a noisy or a quiet pool. Pools were a bit too cold but got in eventually. *Sunbed reservation/usage caused friction amongst the guests as there were not enough for all guests at peak times whilst others where reserved with towels but unused for hours. Think this needs to be resolved as lying in the sun is what a Cape Verde holiday is all about. *Aqua restaurant was lovely, Grill was good with nice setting, whilst the other 2 were fine with lots of choice - our teenage boys said best cooked meat ever! *Good drinks range - lovely cava, red wine and cocktails. Beer, white wine and rose not so good. *Used the gym daily but 3 of the 5 machines were broken for the whole time (reported this on day 1), however they are dependent on an external company coming to fix them. *Our air conditioning unit went wrong and they arrived within 10 mins of reporting it and fixed it soon after. *Very appreciative of the daily maid service who made our beds - thank you! Staff were mostly lovely especially the bar staff. Would stay there again.

Perfect family holiday
On arrival, we were greeted with fruit cocktails as we booked in. We were taken by buggy down to our accommodation overlooking the pool which was spacious, clean and well presented. We were travelling as a party of four with two adults and two teenagers. There was free wifi in the apartment which the teenagers were very pleased about and we could even get wifi on the beach! There were four restaurant, three of which you need to book for evening meal and we would recommend that you book for the week on the day you arrive. Our favourite was O'Grill, which was on the beach. Others liked Waterside restaurant and Aqua restaurant. Spices buffet restaurant always had plenty of choice and space and doesn't need to be booked. The food was very good quality and quantity. Drinks were always available from the main three bars and they make a lovely cup of coffee in the Sway bar by reception. If you want a good trip out then go and see Fransisco by the Beach Bar (He usually had a yellow top on and wooly hat). Island tour is a must although prepare for a few added expenses to get into some locations and for lunch. Takes pens, paper etc and anything for the children in the Shanty Town if you go there. There were always sunbeds available whether by the pool or on the beach which are included in the price but take pegs for your towels as it may be windy. The staff were always polite and helpful. We would love to go back again.

Good hotel location, good beach and several pools to use. Food excellent with very helpful and friendly staff. The accommodation whilst acceptable is of a UK 3star standard, basic comfort similar to a travel inn. The constant all year round wind that these islands are known for detracts from the glorious sunshine.

1st and last time in an “all inclusive” resort
- Ineffective cleaning, having found tables and shelves in the housing unit with layer of dust and areas to be cleaned under furniture; - Poor comfort, given that the beds were not ready for the coolest weather felt during our stay and one of the rooms had no AC unit; - Facilities not according to the advertised category of the hotel unit given the poor maintenance and already evident aging of the structure, without the existence of, for example, a full body mirror, in room tea and coffee facilities, and the existence of sheets with holes; - Employees, most of them cordial but not very active in customer service, and most of the times disorganized and with evident lack of training; - Low quality-price ratio, with the clear intention to show variety in detriment of quality, both in the quality of materials and spaces, and in its aesthetic treatment, and in the food and beverages available, where imported canned goods have almost taken over the place of fresh and local products, not to mention drinks included in the concept with indescribable quality; - Free Wi-Fi extremely unstable and unavailable for long periods; - Food in a 5* hotel cannot contain canned fruit, unnatural juices, industrial pastries, poor selection of bread and wines, table paths in poor condition and not replaced after each use, poorly cleaned tables with vestiges of food remains from previous users, dirty floors and impossible to sanitize (for example in dining rooms with floorboards with interstice slits)

Close to a nice beach
The staff are very friendly and cheerful. The room is cleaned every day and clean towels are provided. The bedding seemed to be changed each day too. The room we had was a two bedroomed to bathroom apartment. It was spacious. There was a microwave and a cooker. But on arrival there were no cups or spoons or glasses. There was air con in the lounge and the double bedroom. I had the twin room and I was surprised to find I had no air con in my room. I wondered why I should not need it, I am an adult and the same as the guests in the double room. This meant I had to sleep with the window open, which was still warm, but the mosquitoes came to visit me. I was too hot with the window closed. The food was plenty in the main dining room called Spices. There were 3 other restaurants, which keeps the same menu all the time. We were there for 3 weeks, it gets boring, so mostly we used Spices Restaurant. The entertainment was dire. It was very repetitive and there was no variation to the type of entertainment. There were on just 2 occasions in the 3 weeks that we were entertained. The bars are nice and on the all inclusive band you can get cocktails. The beach was very nice, but the sunbeds were the most uncomfortable I have ever laid on, so I chose to lay on the sand. The beach towels are provided and they are good quality, soft and big. This place is perfect if you want to do nothing on your holiday.

Compact complex with great staff interaction
Just returned from Cape Verde. Island is very poor and appreciates a little extra in way of tips or sweeties/crayons/books for children. Tortuga Beach was wonderful. No stress is the catchword!! Unlike the neighbouring very large soulless complexes next door, this was a great little find. Still large enough to be quiet but everything to hand. Once the AI band is on -its enjoy yourself all the way. Very impressed the size of the rooms - had apartment 307 - upper floor right by reception but not noisy. 2 bed 2 baths and a kitchen. OK kitchen wasn't equipped, except for a kettle and a fridge - but why would you want to cook on an AI holiday!?! All kept clean by the ladies that do...!! Food was plentiful in all eating areas. Something for everyone and all tastes. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would certainly return to this hotel. But remember to take your midge repellents. They will try to eat you. Saw some terrible bites on people.. mostly bitten by the beach area of resort - which again is very picturesque. Great holiday. Thank you.

wifi cover was poor, many mosquitos. Food was very varied. There are not enough beds by pool or beach for the hundreds of guests and people try to park towel on bed for the entire day. The beach is perfect sand but rocks do not permit entry into the water. A charter flights all inclusive crowd with. The free alcohol is of poor unbranded quality. Staff are exceptionally nice and hard working and kitchen does an effort to vary food.

My wife and I came here (first time to Cape Verde) for eight days to celebrate our 15th anniversary. We made an excellent choice. Excellent location for relaxation, especially since that is all we wanted to do. I spoke to the staff and they arranged a private dinner on the beach for us the evening of our anniversary with candles, a special bouquet of flowers for her, and a special menu. The attention of detail from the staff was amazing. And to make it even more special, my wife cannot eat gluten, which we had not told them in advance. When we were arranging which restaurant to eat in the first night my wife mentioned it to the coordinator that was scheduling these. A few hours later we were walking through the main entrance area and were greeted by the head of all the catering who personally guided my wife through the various options she had and from that point on they were always watching out for her. They even had gluten-free pasta for her! She was very impressed. We used the spa facilities three times, always with exceptional service. If you are going to relax and have a true vacation this is the place to be. We are planning to return (this time with our daughter, which we had conveniently left with her grandparents for this trip).

Melia Tortuga is very nice
I've stayed at 5 star resorts and while I wouldn't say Melia is of that caliber, it is certainly a strong 4 star. I think the 3.3 rating currently here isn't fair. The hotel staff were all very accommodating and friendly. The entertainment and facilities were excellent. Food was very good and I was most pleased with the room. There are some rough edges that could be smoothed out (the insect problem would be most notable) but they are minor at most. Perhaps some people were expecting their own slice of westernization to seclude them from the African desert island which they visited. My advice to them is to skip Sal entirely and go to Ibiza or Cancun, they have what you want.

Nice hotel with appartment style rooms (living room, small kitchen and two bedrooms), ideal for a family or 2 couples of friends. All inclusive, very helpful and friendly staff, entirely devoted to make your stay ideal. They accomodated all we asked for (room with ocean view, late check out at 3pm etc.). One buffet style restaurant and 3 restaurants "a la carte", one of which is next to the beach and is really nice for watching the sunset. If you like all inclusive style hotel, this one is for you !

Myself husband & sister stayed at the hotel for 11 nights, the staff where friendly & helpfull but we felt they were very understaffed in the resturants.This is a lovely hotel food was of a very good standard with plenty of variety with lots of freshly cooked 0ptions. This is a place with very little to do but a great place to chill out & enjoy the sun. We would go again

I've given this hotel a rating of two based on the fact that it is supposed to be a 5 star resort. It isn't. I paid 5 star money for 2 star service and food. I really wanted to like the hotel and was very unhappy with the value I received. If you get a great deal at two star prices then go for it. Otherwise spend your money elsewhere. The rooms were great, big, comfortable, clean and very well furnished. The setting is great and it is well laid out. That's where the good news ends. The manager of the hotel doesn't have a clue and the staff are trying their best despite the lack of leadership and direction. Staff moral is low and the normal hapiness of the Cape Veridans is absent. The main restaurant is over crowded, the tables are too close, it is noisy and at peak times you have to queue. It is a self service restaurant and the drinks are delivered by two drinks waiters who simply can't cope with demand. The poor quality wine is delivered serving by (if you're lucky) serving into plastic beakers. If you leave your table to get another course then you can find your hard won drinks have been whisked away and another group have taken ownership. Top tip? Leave a jacket over a chair or leave one of the party as a table guard. There's a "gourmet" restaurant where you receive waiter service. Again standards are low, you have to book at least a day in advance and you don't know what will be on the menu on the day. My meal was OK. My wife didn't eat hers. Not happy!

A male and female Norwegian friends shared a 2 bedroom suite. The beach, pool and room was perfect for us. I damaged my fot on the way, and the staff did everything to make my holiday as good as possible. Really recommand this hotell. The food is OK, but we missed shops and so close to the hotel.

The room we stayed in was more like a flat with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen in which has probably never been used before. The standard and cleanliness of rooms is very high. Same goes for the premises, the maintenance is very good. Slight downside we found was the very relaxed dresscode at dinner. Something you don't expect at a 5 star hotel. The restaurant seemed crowded and noisy. The food was good however sometimes short of vegetables and salad. Great place, if you just want a break and relax.

Connexion internet déplorable. Ce n’est pas un 5* mais plutôt un petit 4*. Le personnel n’est pas formé pour un 5*. Les suites sont très bien. A la plage les parasols sont tous à refaire mais autrement c’est très agréable. Nourriture très bonne à part au Pasta Nostra, décevant.

Nous avons aimé la gentillesse du personne Le vaste choix des restaurants et des choix des plats La propreté de l'ensemble , chambre , restaurants, piscines et extérieurs La place qu'ils donnent aux chats dans les exterieurs de l'hotel, ils sont comme chez eux Il faudrait penser a mettre une cagnote pour le personnel, nous avons envie de laisser un pouvoir en fin de sejour Nous reviendrons pour passer de bons moments

Positivt: God mat på de bokningsbara restaurangerna. God frukost. Trevlig underhållning om kvällarna. Trevlig personal. Stort rum med stor balkong! Negativt: Något kyliga pooler. Personalen tog lång tid på sig att komma upp med saker till rummet, vid ett tillfälle fick vi säga till 3 gånger för att få lite mer balsam. Jacuzzin på rummet gick inte att sätta igång, vi fick svaret att den bara var för "syn skull" och gick bara att använda som ett vanligt badkar. Vi är sammantaget nöjda och rekommenderar hotellet.
