“Adequate”
Crowne Plaza, Salalah is a more than adequate place to stay to visit Salalah during the Khareef season when one is unlikely to make much use of its services. Am not sure i would find it a good place to stay at other times of the year. The most disappointing aspect was the quality and variety of the food, the breakfast buffet seems to have its menu cast in stone with little change day by day. The other restaurants have little choice or always seem to offer a buffet.
“Not impressed”
Before going to Salalah my research turned up the choice of 2 "5 star" hotels, the Hilton and the Crowne Plaza. Having stayed at the Crowne Plaza, I can report the choice you are making is between facilites or location. Crowne Plaza is set out of town in a peaceful spot, with coconut tree lined beach. However you will be contending with naff architecture and surly staff. The Hilton by contrast provides elegant architecture and 5* service however is located off a dual carriage way facing the industrial cranes and loading docks of the working port.

Salalah International Airport (SLL): Approximate driving time is 10 minutes and distance is 10 kilometres (6 miles).
Getting there: Taxis are available at the airport; the fare to the hotel is approximately 5 OMR. A shuttle is also available to the hotel; tickets cost about 2 OMR. All prices are subject to change.
Getting around: It is easy to explore Salalah on foot, as most attractions are close together. A car is recommended for exploring the surrounding area. Oman is served by an inter-city bus service.
